I remember my Jr high gym teacher always making us do athletic workouts, runs, weights, crunches etc where other kids didn't do shit except dodge ball. I complained at first, but this changed my life forever, probably saved me from being obese as I was overweight at the time, and gave me a positive relationship with fitness. These kids will be thankful in the future as they reap the benefits mentally and physically from training at such a young age.
@MrCmon1132 жыл бұрын
This isn't a positive relationship with fitness, this isn't fitness at all. It's military drilling to make you behave like a sheep. There is absolutely no reason to squat at the same time as others with the same cadance and for the same repetitions. In fact there is every single reason not to do so as it is against all exercise principles that you can come up with. The military could just as well make people write sth on a piece of paper or yell something, or sing, etc and indeed they do. They just choose physical exercises, because it has some beneficial sideeffects. Physical fitness is not about fitting in, it's about standing out. That's why what this school is doing is the opposite of fitness.
@ThatGirlJD2 жыл бұрын
I would not be thankful for this. This kind of stuff is ok sometimes but teaching me I can have fun while working out was the best lesson. Dodgeball and wall ball were fun and we ran around. You get to fight obesity and heart disease while laughing.

Squats won’t help combat obesity, it’ll make your back and legs stronger but to lose weight you gotta do cardio and diet
@yyumanager4709 Жыл бұрын
@@scoobsshrooms109 not entirely true weight lifting causes muscle growth, muscle growth needs energy to grow. So by weightlifting they are causing the body to need more calories which causes weight loss. And if you think that if they’re weight training they would also be doing cardio sometime throughout the week. Diet is a mystery some kids could be cramming there mouth with garbage and, others eating what they should we don’t know. But there’s no doubt that this should be helping with weight loss and muscle growth.
@scoobsshrooms109 Жыл бұрын
@@yyumanager4709 your right, but there’s no evidence that suggest that they are actually doing enough weight training to actually cause enough muscle growth to actually cause any deficit, as a calorie deficit is what causes fat loss.
@oozu-maki4488 Жыл бұрын
@@scoobsshrooms109 cardio is t even that great for fat loss. At least in my personal experience. Jus makes burning calories throughout the day more difficult. Not to mention it always makes me rly hungry and I overeat. Whenever I get shredded for the summer I jus lower my daily caloric intake to 1200-1500 calories daily for a month while sticking to my regular weightlifting schedule. Not to say cardio isn’t good. Just not for fat loss most of the time. It’s ofc still good for cardiovascular health, mental, sleep, blood pressure, etc.

@LAW Jealous of what? I actually think spending more time playing games will be much better for these kids. What would i be jealous about? I can out lift a majority of kids in my Freshman class in highschool. I literally have the highest squat in my freshman class. And i’m gonna be honest but i think a majority of the muscle was gained from playing sports at a young age. I played 3 to 4 sports year round and it most definitely helped my physical strength. I’ve only really been lifting seriously for a year and playing sports at a young age i feel like was more beneficial then lifting at that time. I’m sure them lifting can help them, but it’s not necessarily something these kids need to do. They are still pretty young and lifting weights isn’t something that needs to be installed at this age.

Omg this brought back memories, I remember we had to run a mile and then around one of the big schools and after each lap we either had to do 50 push-ups, 50 box jumps, 50 burpee’s, 50 squats, or 50 crunches, definitely got us ready for 7th grade and up

That’s because Texas actually cares about the physical health and athleticism of the children. They also start kindergarten at 4 instead of five. They also start musical instruments in elementary school. Their education is also far better in general. They actually create more responsible, healthy, and intelligent human beings.

I'm sorry not all of Texas is like that unfortunately. Especially in areas of poverty and such. They actually took spelling from my daughter's old school last year. It was such a shock, their excuse was that it was taking up too much time out of the school day and there is technology for that these days anyway. Soo yeah not all of Texas is taking care of their children.

@@netgrl2008 most of Texas does though. Most Texas schools are decent. However- I 100% understand where you’re coming from. There is a HUGE age gap between me and my youngest sister and they no longer so spelling either (NC) and the ways they’re teaching math are setting the kids of for failure in middle school so I greatly encourage you to work on spelling with your daughter as well as common core algorithms (what we learned in school) because the new curriculums being sent out from California are failing our kids. I hope things get better❤️❤️

As someone from Texas, I can confirm that we did train intensely, but only for the people in 6th grade called pre-athletics, the normal PE people just played kickball while we had to do this

As a former Texas 6th grader, I call cap. We never had such equipment. All we had was a black top surface with no nets on the basketball rims, a basketball rack, & a sack with some soccer & dodge balls.

They had this in my pe in 6th grade in the late 90's plus roller blading. We stopped using the weight sets after a kiddo had a seizure. The kiddo and the kiddo spotter was seriously injured during a seizure doing this. They both ended up with broken arm. The spotter ended up with a broken jaw and needed cosmetic surgery and lost a good amount of teeth. Scared the crap out of me when it happened. When they went into a seizure they flung themselves backwards and not only hit themselves with the weight lift but it also collide with the spotters face and they both flung backwards. Worse part was they couldn't get the bar out of the kiddos hand because they fully locked up

I remember doing this, it was actually pretty fun, until my RA got worse, my knees kept dislocating and I tore both acl’s, then i had to use the stationary bike for the rest of the year which wasn’t as fun 🙃 Is there anyone else that’s relatively young but has old knees like me? cause I’m only 19 and I’ve been like this since I was a baby

That’s kind of similar to in Nebraska, but we had less people and less racks and a whole bunch of different exercises going on at once

My middle school was just like everyone else’s, a giant gym for playing Bball. But for football players there was another smaller room with lifting equipment, somewhere around 5 benches for presses, 5 racks for Barbells to fit in, several weight racks, and I think 3-5 squat racks.
@anna2cool4uu Жыл бұрын
I’m actually in a public middle school in Texas and we have to do this. The weight room is a big thing at my school. You have to do it eventually or you can do an athletics class where that’s all you do.
