1. Perception is reality 2. Small interventions can hade a significant impact 3.The opposite of a good ide is not always a bad idea 4. Ask stupid questions 5. Don’t design for the average 6. Don’t see the world objectively 7. It doesn’t pay to think logically if everybody else is being logical

#5: The US Airforce researched the averages for all metrics needed in their cockpits. Average length pf arms, average shoulder width, average weight, average belly protrusion, average hip width, etc... in an effort to create a cockpit that fits the most potential pilots. After finishing and building the design, they struggled to find more than two people that could actually use that abomination.

Meanwhile in Sweden, SAAB enlisted a team of ergonomists to design the JAS-39 Gripen cockpit with the aim to reduce pilot strain. Sure, no-one liked the unconventional upright throttle and strange control groupings at first but over time it proved to decrease fatigue and the risk of RSI. "No, we don't care about what you're used to. We're going to make sure you don't injure yourself at work."

The uncertainty thing is SPOT on. If I know a traffic jam will be a 30 minute wait, I can process the information and perhaps make choices. If I am stuck with no clue, even 5 minutes would seem like an hour. I found this entire presentation brilliant!! Thank you!

Yes RYB is considered the three primary colors.. Secondary cyan magenta and green and or orange.. In some color wheels it displays RGB with yellow magenta and cyan but this is incorrect because red mixed with green actually produces a greyish color not yellow... Whereas yellow and blue is green and yellow and red is orange

As a triathlete i applied a somewhat similar principle. To compress time while expending 80+ % of VO2 max over several hours, i began to meditate using the rythms of running, cycling and swimming to enter what i referred to as becoming a human machine. Quite often I'd experience a loss of time, causing me to decrease my times significantly. It is definitely about perception. Thanks for a great video.

I know exactly what you mean. My mind races almost all the time, but I've found that distance running can be an oasis. After a couple miles I get into a zone listening to my breathing and footsteps where there's little else going on in my head and the time passes very quickly. It's simultaneously ironic and fortuitous that physical exertion can be a source of mental relaxation.

Being 70, lifelong learning, understanding, observation, experience, re-examination 24/7 365 Without entropy there is no logic and without logic there is no entropy, therefore the conscious cognosentient being creates entropologically (my new word) See both as equal and separate and one can see the bridge between and equate with caution and evaluate contingencies. So 'Entropologically' there are solutions to all problems. Love always

When driving on the M25 (the London ring road) there are frequent occasions when traffic slows or stops----often due to a crash up ahead or a traffic jam due to traffic volume. The road has overhead displays that inform the drivers why the delays are occurring. I'm amazed at how much psychological relief comes from simply knowing _why_ the traffic is delayed.

"Perception is Reality" was the title that I chose when I spoke at a large professional photographers convention. Sure, you have to be a good photographer but by doing a myriad of small things that created the "PERCEPTION" that you were the best you could command a lot more for your services and gain a higher end clientele. One example is how I packaged their album. I had custom cedar boxes made up with 2 compartments, the larger one contained the album, there was a divider to the side and in there was a bottle of wine with my logo on it. My total cost was right about $100, but I was able to get an average of well over $8,000 per wedding!

I feel cheated. I clicked the video because I was curious whats the difference between the gestures the picture was showing and highlighting with red circles but the video didn't even mention them as far as I know. I stopped watching at a point, because the information was not applying to me - I don't really sell products, I don't work in marketing and I don't generally fall on most of the tricks mentioned as a customer either (I am well aware the passage of time depends on what you are doing, I don't buy redbull, and when I go to a doctor it's just to get a sick leave - I usually know what my sickness is and I would be better of staying home than visiting doctors office full of germs but my employer won't take "I am sick" seriously unless a doctor confirms it, if I had a child I would mostly cure ti at home and write it a sick leave for school myself and only take it to a doctor if the sickness was worse than your average cold or flu). However I do use the "one hand holding the other hand wrist" gesture a lot and never the "one hand holding the other hand" gesture.

Interesting! Sounds like this book was geared more towards business advice, but I am going to try and apply it to my life - specifically the info about perceived time/waiting. I regularly walk with a friend, and we started out doing it on an indoor track where you had to do about 26 laps to make a mile, but when weather got good, we started walking on outdoor tracks. My outdoor time is always better - sometimes twice as fast - as my indoor time, and I've struggled to figure out why. I think part of it is simply the outdoor track is longer so I make less trips around, and that there is a definite beginning and finish line, but also, I think the changing environment and distracting challenges (elevations, uneven walkways, really determined squirrels, etc.) motivate me. However, the more times we do it, the harder it is to keep going, and I definitely don't have motivation to increase my distance by doing more laps. I'm going to try and change my perception, maybe by adding something to do, to help.

This reminds me of a Penn & Teller show that talks about different things in society (Not BS, this was a similar but different show I can't remember the name of) In one episode, they rented out a movie theater and changed the prices of different snacks as an experiment to see which prices work. In one stage, they offered a small soda for a dollar and a large that was twice the size for $3. Nobody wanted the large because it was twice as much soda but 3 times the price. When asked about it, customers said they felt ripped off. So in the next stage, they added a medium for $2.50 but the size was in right the middle between the small and the large, which had the same prices as the first stage. When customers were asked about it this time, they said it was a great deal and almost felt like they were ripping the movie theater off. When it was a comparison between a $1 small and a $3 large, it was obvious. But after adding a medium in between, customers were only comparing the medium to the large. No one even thought about the small. One dollar to three seemed like a ripoff but $2.50 to $3 was only a 50 cent difference and so that comparison seemed favorable, even though they were both objective ripoffs when compared to the $1 small.
