Part of the joy of shooting with a Leica is to discover vintage lenses or unique lenses and see how they perform on their cameras. Usually, vintage lenses, especially 35mm and 50mm variants, will come at a premium. But what if you could get that vintage Summilux look for around US$400? Say hello to the 7 Artisans 35mm 1.4 Leica M Mount lens. This well-built homage to the vintage 35 Summilux renders extremely well for being a fraction of the cost of a Leica, plus it looks great on an M body. Check out our full review to see sample images and bobby's thoughts on it.

Wow! Great review. As a vintage lens user, would definitely give this a shot. I have used both 7Artisans and TTArtisans lenses on my full frame Sony and Fuji cameras. Pretty impressive lenses for the money. And, this is in my town too!!

Very nice video. A good way to start 2021. As time goes by I want lenses more for character than corner to corner clinical sharpness.

Great review. I feel the same way about how lenses render with character and depth rather than the usual “how sharp is it?” I have a few 7artisans lenses that seem to share that same characteristic. You asked in the video for suggestions on lenses to review ....how about the voightlander 58mm F1.4 and or the Nikon 58mm f1.4g. Or.....a comparison of the two. I’ve really come to love the 58mm focal length. Your content is great. I really enjoy your perspective. You do great work !

Wonderful review! I really like how you present in Lightroom - complements the usability review. Of course, in Singapore you never run out of subjects; I wonder how people in the pool atop the Marina Bay Sands would render against the skyline! The random bokeh of some lenses is really something to embrace, and I am glad you talked about this, especially if they give you the 3D "pop!" Is the rotating hood plastic or metal? Fringing never bothers me except for the worst purple fringing on some Leica wide angle lenses like Tri-Elmar 16-18-21 and 18/3.8

Always enjoy your content, in particular, your Leica reviews. The rendering reminds me somewhat of the Voigtlander Nokton Classic 40mm f/1.4 lens, which is around the same price but significantly smaller and lighter. Still love my Summilux 35mm ASPH though!

Great video as always. I’ll never own this lens and am not interested, but watched the entire video because you guys always do such a great job. More of a photography video that happens to be about a specific piece of gear. Thumbs up, hope everyone has a great 2021.

I fully agree with you ! I prefer Vintage Lenses, because i am used to shoot them starting into the later 80's. I prefer Lens Rendition, Tonality, 3D Pop and especially Lens Character over clinical sharpness from today's offerings - that's why i love old glass. This 7Artisans 35/1.4 WEN isn't being the sharpest out there - and it's especially somewhat unfair, to compare it to the mightly 35mm F1.4 ZM Distagon, but it's not too far off, for a fraction of the price. I mean, look guys, it's a fun Lens into that term, but a great one. I've these things 7Artisans should consider with a MK II upgrade: 1) a fixed, metal-based focus tap 2) real aperture clicks, not just these somewhat mushy, half ones, and linear spaces between the Apertures on Scale. 3) This Lens should also have 1/3 click stops, not just full stops, like F1.4...f2...F2.8...F4...and so on. 4) And i'd prefer the Design of the TTArtisan 35mm F1.4 ASPH - that Leica Lens Design, it's sexy. 5) The Lens hood goes up and down, without arritation, that should being fixed...furthermore, the WEN logo character should being fixed into the middle - means, the integrated Lens hood should not free rotate all around. 7) much better Corner-Performance, especially from F5.6 to F11 (really being sharp) 8) less busy looking Bokeh 9) no more swirly Bokeh 10) Less chromatic Abberations, also Coma

Tempted by this lens. Great video. - I own the 35mm voigtllander f/2 Ultron and using for film only on M6. Which would you rather have between the Ultron and this? Just curious. Happy new year!

Thanks for watching. The faster aperture helps with film especially in low light, but that goes with most fast lenses. Did the price it’s worth a look

Great review, I just wish it came in silver chrome. Honestly my dream for these companies who make M mount lenses is to make an lens just like the Leica Thambar-M 90mm. I know that lens is a bit esoteric and specific, but if TTartisan can make a great Noctilux alternative I think it’s possible I won’t have to pay over $7k for that super dreamy look.
@TECH360TV
@TECH360TV 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Kervir! Perhaps send them an email. I think they are open to ideas and a silver chrome version would be nice. As for the Thambar it might be too niche but again never know what they have in the pipeline

Hello there. I was wandering how this 35 1.4 holds up to the 35 1.4 from Fuji. I know they are different systems etc, but I do have a fuji x pro and adapting „leica lenses“ is pretty easy.. how do they compare in terms of IQ? thank you ;)

Try a different adapter. If that doesn’t work could be your copy of the lens
@GoodGuysNeverLose
@GoodGuysNeverLose 3 жыл бұрын
@@TECH360TV I actually read that it's minimal focusing distance is 0.70m and that equates about 2 feet so it's not a bad copy of the lens it's just the design of the lens itself. I did purchase a close focusing adapter though so well see how that changes the performance.
