Guys sorry, but putting a Merrell or Columbia, which are in my opinion urban boots in the first places and not mentioning the Aku, makes me doubt the ranking. Greetings from Chile, country of mountaineers

I'd go with the user ratings tbh. You guys have subjectively given the Zodiac a lower score than the user rating, while marking up the Merrell Moab and the Salomon. Curiously, I own or have owned most of the boots in this test, except the Keens. It's not realistic to test all boots as there are other brands such as La Sportiva, Garamont, AKU, Hanwag, Salewa, Mammut, Bestard, Haglofs, Meindl and many others you could include. Including none of these however is a little odd. Maybe you didn't know Aku but no La Sportiva or Meindl? I also rate the Columbias as very good value for money and surprisingly durable. They're better than just "urban boots" . However the Moab 2s with M Dry aren't as waterproof as the GTX boots. When you get the GTX Moabs you get a synthetic upper which isn't as durable as the nubuck of the M Dry. The grip is good, the rand protection is so-so by comparison with Scarpas, La Sportiva, Garamont and many others. It's a good light hiking boot and an urban technical boot. I'd never consider it as equivalent or better than the Scarpa Zodiac unless I'm walking the dog. The Salomon 4D Quest is a great boot, no doubt. But deciding whether it's best depends on budget & use. There are more costly Meindl boots, Scarpas and La Sportiva I'd rate higher. At their price point the Salomons are king & are quite versatile.

I was a bit confused on your pros and cons for the MOAB. For a pro. you wrote that it was breathable, but as a con, you wrote that it was not breathable for feet. Could you please clarify?

Keen Targhee would make a great Camino de Santiago boot, supple, soft, sole absorbs pounding, wide inner, not to heavy, but a very 'sloppy' boot after some wear, flat tracks and manicured terrain specials,

It's curious how most of the shown boots have vibram soles which are one of the best soles I know, except for the # 1's .. are Salomon soles better than vibram's? Great review!!

lol, a top 7 hiking boots with Keen in it, there is literally 100 models you should rank ahead of those; also no Lowa or Meindl, that's when you know this ranking is a joke; if you re asking yourself: of all those ranked I would only consider the Scarpa and the Asolo.

I ask three things outta my hiking boots .........#1 Will it dry when sitting out overnight. #2.. Will it grip rock that is on an angle ....... #3,, . Will it let me outrun my wife when she finds earrings in my glovebox .

It's very strange to me. I discovered the pleasure of being free, healthy and happy since at 3 years old (in 1962), by going barefoot. So, in all my life so far, I'v traveled just in my best shoes - my bare feet. I don't know the feeling of walking in such boots. I imagine they also cost a lot of money. But my "shoes" are with 0 money. Free for happiness !

@@eeyyaakk6801 merrell are like hobby shoes compared to scarpa,i just wear mine in the city.. nothing wrong with them I like mine, but I wouldn't trust them much on a technical trail

Years ago I had a pair of Merrells, they were great so a while back I bought some Moabs - 10 weeks and they had fallen apart. Forest tracks and trails only - absolute rubbish toy boots
