7 BEST Shrimp Tank Mates You Need to Try

In this video, I give you the top 7 shrimp tank mates for your aquarium. All of these fish can be kept with cherry shrimp and crystal shrimp without any problems. These are in my opinion the best fish to keep with your neocaridina and caridina shrimp. All of these are fish that won't eat shrimp!
Here are the 7 fish listed in this video:
1. Dwarf neon rainbowfish
This is a great fish to keep with your shrimp! They are peaceful and harmless to all critters and make great community fish. However, they aren't the best for beginners and can be a little bit pricey!
2. Neon tetras
A beautiful schooling fish with an amazing neon display that goes great with shrimp in any aquarium. Keep them in groups of 8-10 for the most success!
3. Endlers
The best beginner fish on this list! This is a livebearing nano fish that goes great with cherry and crystal shrimp! They come in many different colors and take pretty much all water parameters.
4. Threadfin rainbowfish
Very similar to the dwarf neon rainbowfish, these little guys make an awesome tank mate for any kind of ornamental shrimp. They can be a little more pricey and are recommended for more experienced aquarists but have a display that is priceless.
5. Corydoras
A great bottom-dwelling catfish that makes any community aquarium look a little bit more special! They are very easy to care for and are commonly available across the globe. But they are also very peaceful and are a great fish to add to an aquarium with some shrimp in it.
6. Chilli rasboras
This is a more trickier fish to find, but are awesome tank mates for shrimp due to their small size and peaceful attitude. They have a very cool display and go great in nano aquariums.
7. Bristlenose plecos
An awesome algae-eating tank mate for a shrimp aquarium. They are a very peaceful fish that loves to nibble on algae that grows on the surface of objects in an aquarium.

PSA: I’d recommend that if you’re going to go with Dwarf Neon Rainbows, please keep them in a heavily planted tank with the shrimp. They can fit some smaller/medium sized shrimp in their mouths 😁.

So much more variety with tropical. I have had a range of bullet proof cold water fish but this is brand new territory for me. I just discoverd endlers and rainbow chilli from this video. I love them both

When my Betta passes I think I’m going to do Neon Tetras. My Betta absolutely loves his shrimp friends and I love keeping Bettas but I don’t think that I could get another, I know I’ll be devastated once he passes. He’s almost 4 years old.

Wow!!! This is so helpful! Thank you sooooo much! I have ghost shrimp in one of my aquariums, and I have a neon tetra with it in a 5 gallon, and they go along so well!!! I’m actually cycling a 10 gallon for my first time keeping cherry shrimp. Just finished planting a bunch of back- and middle ground plants and have some java moss and dwarf baby tears on the way. Planning on having some male guppies in there once the colony is established. I’ve been keeping only Betta for the last few years so it will be nice to get back to my community roots :) tried some ghost shrimp in with my Betta a while ago but it didn’t go very well. Been doing my research on Cherry Shrimp so hopefully it will go better this time.

i bought some cherry shrimp for 7$ each and bought around 20, i kept them in 2 tanks one had some glo fish tetras and danios and the other has 2 golden ram cichlids, theres some other friendlier fish in the tanks but i noticed them being picked off 1 at a time and eventually found out the cichlids and tetras will and were eating them. after i lost them all i bought about 40 more off someone for really cheap and set them up in a different tank with some guppy and dwarf corys and they seem to be growing like crazy and some of the females are carrying eggs. im super excited to see whatll come of it. i see a bunch of males zooming all over the tank too! the first cherrys i bought were a really nice bright red but the ones i bought for cheap are mixed and some are yellow, some orange and some red!

I tried keeping red eye blue neon rainbows (which is one of the smallest dwarf rainbow species) with my red cherry shrimp. Within the first 3 days I found 2 dead shrimp following molting. I hadn't had a single shrimp death since my tank was established 6 months ago. I'm fairly certain the rainbow fish were picking at the molted shrimp and killing them. Just a bit of warning for people that are thinking of trying rainbow fish with shrimp. After removing them I haven't had a dead shrimp in 2 weeks and have seen several molted shells. Just my experience :)

There was probably a problem with the water differential. The water from the bag they come in can’t be anymore from 4° from the water in your aquarium. If it is, you’re gonna have to higher or lower your water temperature to meet their standards for the time being.

I’ve heard for years DONT KEEP SHRIP WITH KULHLI LOACHES but some how a pregnant shrimp from my needed tank ended up in the kilo loach tank now I have a million shrimp in there and so far the loaches haven’t bothers them

Never had issues with kuhli loaches and shrimps. They just leave each other alone.

Do you use a remineraliser in your aquarium water for your shrimp? Or do you have any tips for preparing the water for the aquarium?

So i have my shrimp in a 60l tank (+-15gallon) and just added 15 neon tetras and 1 Sewellia what do you think to much tetras ? Or wil it be fine ? 1 one more thing do not take the endlers whit the shrimp i started whit 3 ended whit 60 and the shrimp got scared end stopt breading so i sold them

Most of my female Bronze Corydoras are 3 inches +. Pygmy Corydoras are a MUCH better choice for a shrimp tank. But I won't add them either because I want to maintain a large colony 😁 (and I know pygmys can and will eat newborn neos)

I love your vids man. I’m about two years into the hobby and now have 4 tanks. A blue dream neo shrimp, a pea puffer tank, a guppy strain breeding tank, and a community tank of guppy’s, Cory’s, ghost shrimp, a few card try’s, some lohhi loaches, one big gold mystery snail, and tons of pests.. lol puffer food. Not for my case. Successful breeding with endlers in a 5 gallon tank. Have 12 tiny shrimplets 4 adult shrimps and 4 endlers+6dwarf rasboras

One thing - Plecos require much bigger tanks than usual cherry shrimp aquarium. In fact, Bristlenos needs 100 L aquarium to grow heatlhy. You can have shrims in 10 gallon tank, but not Plecos. I would suggest Ototinclus.

List was good except for neon tetras from personal experience the neons attack shrimp wolf pack style.... they tear them apart in small Pieces then eat them..... don’t keep those with shrimp well at least not with cherry shrimp

I have a tank with just shrimp and tetras and never had 1 issue. They are in my eye sight most of the day and have genuinely never bothered the shrimp!

well i kept cherry shrimps and endlers in the same aquarium and while the endlers were in the aquarium i never got a single shrimp baby until i took them out so they can and will eat your shrimps it can happen dont think they wont

Female endlers might be a bit bigger, but the male ones are fine. You should also put lots of hiding spot and yeah, consider not putting fish at all if the tank is meant to be breeding tank

I personally have 9 Chile raspboras and 1 bristlenose in a 10 gallon shrimp tank. I started with 6 green jades and am over 20 now. There is always the chance a newly hatched baby will be eaten by accident, but i keep hair grass on the bottom to better conceal the babies. At the end of the day it's all preference. If you intend to breed shrimp your best bet is no fish at all, but some set ups still work with fish implemented :)

I would never ever put a pleco in planted tank.. I had 2 plecos that were like 7-8 years old and the amount of plants they destroyed was insane.. Not to mention how they loved to fu.. Up the scape and "dig trenches" all around the tank.. Especially during night when you want to sleep..

Take airline tubing, tie a know at the bottom and dip the other end in the tank. Suck on the other end to get the suction going. Adjust the flow by tightening/loosen the knot.

Bro Canadians are easy to breed. Keep your water clean and try to match the parameters they like. Lots of hiding spaces and keep them with snails. Since the shrimp doesn’t boo load much to keep the cycle running unless you have 100’s. A bristle nose would help too.

i was looking for pygmy corys for a while now, i found a fish store 2 hours from me sold some but wanted around 40 each, another one closer had them for a short time but wanted even more. finally the fish store down the road picked some up and wanted only 2.99 each so i picked up a school of them and they are soooo cool and fun to watch! also been dying to get chili or phoenix rasboras and some CPD's

Plecos and I are not on good terms right now. Ihad a giant amazon sword that took up 1/3 of my 55 gal. I then added 6 small bristlenose. It has been a month, and that sword is completely trashed.

I absolutely would not put neon tetras with shrimp. I had a half dozen juvenile neon tetras in a tank with neocaradina shrimp and even though the adult shrimp were larger than the fish, the shrimp hid in the vegetation all the time. After I removed the neons, the shrimp all came out of hiding and you can see them all over the tank now. The fish I have in the tank now with the shrimp is pygmy corys, panda corys, endlers, celestial pearl danio (galaxy rasbora), and dwarf emerald rasbora. While the fish can eat newly hatched baby shrimp, they won't eat them all.

I kept green neons with cherry shrimp and they ate my babies. Once I took the greens out, my shrimp population exploded.

I have lost close to 10 shrimp to my betta. I have tried everything I could to keep my betta with shrimp. But my betta is in a 10 gallon by him self now. And my shrimp are with 4 neon tetras, 4 ember tetras, and 5 zebra danios in a 20 long. I want to get 1 or 2 more of both tetras.

Only thing you can keep that is ramhorn snail I seen my shrimplets take a ride on them snails Just the snails will take over your tank No fish Is safe in your Shrimplets tank

im surprised that you recommend fish that you've had no experience with. thats akin to me just whipping out a stolen prescription pad and writing scripts for meds.
