I remember when i got my first Electric Guitar, I had basically spent my whole month’s pay check for it. I didn’t want to wait another month to get an amp, so i got the cheapest amp i could get (which was £50) and started playing. I was a beginner, not a guitar connoisseur, so didn’t know how important amps were for my sound. I barely knew what the much about tone. I figured i just had to get better to sound better, and i did. But, as I got better i began to know better and hear better. And i heard that i wasn’t getting the best out of my guitar especially with how others made it sound. I thought the amps played a small part in my guitar sound. I then realised how important it was after hearing my guitar on a decent amp from my guitar teacher. My guitar sounded like the amount i paid for and then some. I then go back home to practice, and i cannot un-hear the difference. My amp makes my guitar sound like garbage, compared to my teacher’s one. Remember that the Amp is just as much a part of your guitar as the strings or coils and humbuckers. Don’t make the same mistake i did, get a decent Amp.

MasterStepz9 • For my birthday i bought myself an off brand electric guitar for $100 (monoprice guitar) but it had good reviews. Been practicing for about a month or two now but I’ve been so discouraged cause it sounds nothing like other electric guitar when I play a song. I realized today it probably has more to do with the amp than my guitar lol

I played guitar from pretty young age for about 14 years (eventually played small local gigs covering Hendrix, RHCP etc.), then unfortunately took a 6-year long break, sold all my gear due to drug addiction and other life issues and haven't touched a guitar since. Eventually got clean, got a proper job, and now I'm trying to get back into music and re-learn guitar again. Bought a used 70s reissue Fender strat from Reverb, and after watching this video ordered Fender Champion 40 (from PMT funnily enough, as they had the cheapest price and free next day delivery). Both should arrive tomorrow, really looking forward to getting back into music, I really missed it.

I love the Pathfinder 10 to pieces. It's great. It's a real throwback to old-school amplifiers. Effects are what you have pedals for - the Pathfinder 10 is just two EQ knobs, a volume and a gain, and way more loudness than its 10 watts would normally indicate.

The "clean" channels on the Mustang are great. I have a Mustang I and it blows me away. As you said, the "Twin Reverb" preset is amazing. However, the high gain presets are so-so. I am personally dissatisfied with the orange Metal 2000, since it has overly saturated basses and feels a bit "hollow". This amp shines because you can change every single aspect of it. Thanks for the demo. I mainly work in my small studio with keyboards, etc. I thought I didn't need an amp. So I connect my guitar directly into my sound/mixer card. It was fairly ok. However, as soon as I started using effect pedals things sounded horrible. Pedals like Freqout and big muff became unusable. My Boss GT-1 is usable only because I can adjust the preamp, but then I loose the intended effect! Do you think I need an Amp and then input it to the studio through a mic? Is there any other way, without letting out the sound into the room. Or do you think I probably have another problem with my sound setup? For example using XLR cables, or a preamp such as Palmer pocket MK2 before the soundcard, etc., to solve the issue? Thankful for any advice.

The weirdest thing happens when I use a wah pedal and the wah setting on my amp, when I hear the sound I have no control over my mouth and I often times find myself making a "wah" motion with my mouth, completely uncontrollable, guess I'm just feelin' the music!

In my younger days when i played in various metal(death/grind/ black) i used to play on a pawn shop special $100 Randall rg100es with a home made 4x12 filled with V30s and let me tell you, i had never in my life received so many compliments coming from peavey 5150, mesa boogie, marshall jcm and other high end tube amp owners on my sound and low end thump...funniest moment i had was when a headlining band busted his Mesa before they went up and borrowed my head, when he was done playing he said thanks and said "wow, what a great head...but where is the stand by switch?"...i said its a solid state amp, no stand by and the face he made was priceless, his mind was blown lol hahaha

Hi. I'm blind and am wondering if you could please elaborate on dimensions/weight of these amps - in particular, which of them are closest to the Roland Micro Cube (how much smaller, bigger or are they similar etc)? And which of them are friendliest/easiest for use without reliance on sight? (I'm not that happy with the Roland Micro Cube, and am trying to find out which alternatives are easier for getting to the sounds I like - eg as well as crunch/distortion type stuff, I love the twangy/bluesy/garage tones - eg as found in "The House Of The Rising Sun".) I don't play live, so this is for home use/practice.

@@PiruPiruPiruPiPiruPi I can type proficiently and use NVDA which is a screenreading software that outputs spoken feedback of what's being typed, and other programs/tasks I'm navigating - eg websites, email etc. (But it can't describe videos, or make sense of websites with poor design/accessibility.) And I use an electronic Braille device conected to the computer, which works in conjunction with the screenreading software to provide Braille readout of the text too. Thanks for replying.

@@jdsd744 I used screenreading software for many years, firstly commercial products such as JAWS for Windows, sold by Freedom Scientific, the company now known as Vispero (www.vispero.com) in the US. I took classes at one of the agencies for the blind here in Australia when I was first learning to use the computer, but years later, I'm nowadays using an open-source screenreading software called NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access), developed by NV Access. The project runs largely on community funding and the website is: www.nvaccess.org/ They have come a long way since the project started in 2006 and NVDA is used by blind people now in many countries. There are also email-based discussion lists for users of the software to share information and tips for using the software, and NVAccess also has training materials available for purchase via their site. Many electronic Braille devices like the one I use - the Brailliant BI 40 from HumanWare (www.humanware.com) are supported by NVDA, so they can connect to the computer via USB or bluetooth to provide Braille output of the screen too, but those devices are more expensive (I had to get funding assistance for mine), though there are more affordable options which have come out more recently. But many people who don't read Braille are just relying on the spoken feedback from NVDA (or whichever screenreader they're using). Apple has its own screenreader called VoiceOver, built into the Mac and iOS products, so people don't have to download it separately. I hope this helps.
