7 Cute Beagle Barks!

Beagles instinctively bark for a variety of reasons, from small short barks and growls to full blown barking and baying. They may bark or howl excitedly, protectively, to raise the alarm when on a scent, bay when left alone, or yappy barks when playing happily.
In this video Smudge the Beagle makes herself heard with her unique beagle bark on 6 different occasions (and one in slow motion). Watch this to see what it is that she wants to make herself heard about and to hear the beagle noise she makes.

I love the fact that despite Smudge's barks the chicken kept on waddling along the path ! In the garden when he smells something high up and stands on his hind legs to bark ! 🐶❤

Thanks Lorna! Yes, I was so surprised at the calmness of the chicken, but made sure we didn't get too close either. It's the second time we've seen it. Another time there were 3 of them...definitely free range eggs! 💙🐾

I just came across this oldie but goodie. I watched with Banjo while eating chips. HE started imitating Smudge in order to get chips. 🤣 Beagles and their bellies. 🤷‍♀️

I had twenty seven years of beagles as mentioned elsewhere, both were Rossmaith from Yarm, excellent dogs, I recognise all these sounds. To anyone thinking about getting one I suggest a high quality low protein feed, minimal / no treats, certainly can't be left in a silent house, they are pack dogs and lots of verbal interaction keeps you bonded in many ways. They suited me perfectly, I'm self employed in my own workshop and hence always time for walks. if i had another in my case here i would fit child gates at bottom of stairs and at sitting room entrance, kitchen and hallway is enough. The second, called Smudge also because of a little white mark on his muzzle (a tricolour) .. was for the first six years a difficult dog, low protein and no meat essential, lots of heirarchy etc. We found, you must win at play or games! Exc films, a delight!

I just wanted to check this video out, I wanted to hear what a beagle bark sounds like. When I was about 5 yrs old, one of my older brothers came back from Oregon with a beagle pup, 'red' with white on it's chest and tips of toes. We called him Red, or Oregon Red, or Oregon. We had him about 15(?) years. He was a good dog, never caused any trouble. We said he was more human than dog. He would sit on the corner of the kitchen table and look out the window and wait for my brother. There could be a table full of food, but he never touched it. My brother worked underneath his car alot, did repairs himself. Sometimes my brother reached for a wrench or tool, and Red had run off with it🔧He did have some bad luck in his life. He always went with my brother when he cut hay, he'd lay on his jacket till he was done. One day he got excited and ran toward the tractor,🚜 and got his leg cut by the power bar hooked to the tractor. He didn't lose his leg we got him to the vet in time. It was pretty scary. Another time, I'm not really sure what happened. One day Red couldn't walk or eat, etc. My brother massaged his legs every day, and had to be spoon fed. One day he got excited when he saw a car coming down the long driveway. He rocked himself til he got to his feet, and pranced sideways ! He was all ribs. He eventually walked normal again. His voice never was the same, it was a raspy bark. I wanted to see this video so I could remember his bark again. He also had a smile after his illness. His lip on one side kinda curled when he greeted you; it looked like a snarl but it was a smile. He went to doggie heaven in about 1982. We still miss you Reddy boy ! Hope you found a new voice🐕🐾

It was good to hear all about Red - he sounded like an amazing and wonderful dog. He did well not eating the food off the table....Smudge would not be so well-mannered! And I can picture him sitting on the blanket patiently waiting for the hay to be cut. Thank you Lynn 🙂🐾

@@SmudgetheBeagle Yes, Red was pretty special. He was one of our family dogs, but he took to my one brother the most. We have had many other dogs over the years, but none special as Red; a couple others came close. He was fascinated by mice. One day we were all around the kitchen table and a brave mouse stole a piece of food from the dog dish, and Red saw it! After that, whenever we played and said 'get the mouse...' he ran to look in the food dish! Here's a lip-curl smile from Red, from beyond, to you and Smudge. So adorable . I have seen a Beagle everyday when taking a walk with my dog by riverside. The dog is always barks at Sakura from their backyard . The sound is just like a Guard Beagle on duty !

Oh that's so cute. That beagle must be trying to protect their territory. There are two dogs near us (not beagles, but not sure of their breed) who do the same when Smudge goes past, and Smudge gets a bit scared for a moment until we are past. Thanks so much for watching!

🤣 So true, it's fairly clear what Smudge is communicating to us all so cutely. Smudge loves seeing birds on the footpath, but she had never seen a chicken! So funny how the chicken just carries on walking calmly, just another day having broken out of the hen coop and walking the streets... 💙🐾

OMGoodness Smudge is just the cutest!! And so smart!! Does she bark at all strange animals that she's not familiar with? My Loki likes Smudge. I was watching Smudge on the television and he jumped up to watch her too and tried to touch her. I actually recorded part of it.

OMGosh I would love to see Loki doing that, how cool. Smudge always reacts if there is the sound of a squeaky toy on a video, looks around to see where the toy is. She doesn't bark at all strange animals - birds and if there are any rabbits (of course) always seem to get her interested, but I don't recall her ever barking at a cat. Other dogs get a response, usually in the hello, hello I'm here, play with me kind of way, whether they want to or not 🤣. 💙🐾

Love beagle barks! The chicken must have found a way of escaping from her coop. We saw her one other time with two of her sister chickens, the 3 of them just calmly walking along the same path, barely reacting to a very excited beagle. 🤣
