Glock you should have extended the ladder down into the ground instead of using the bars, that way no matter how much the zombies dig up the ground they'll always be able to get on the ladder. You also should have used Hi power ammo instead of AP so you don't accidentally trigger a demolisher. This would also make it so you only knock off the top few zombies.

One of the best "field expedient" schemes I had was taking over an elevator shaft in an apartment building. I had my Junky near the bottom at head height for the zombies, and my turret about halfway up the shaft while I sniped and dropped mollies from above. The sledge knocked demolishers away from the ladder before they could pop, and the turret was hitting them at head level as they climbed. Much like you discovered, you gotta peel em slowly to keep them from bunching and going all rage mode. A fully maxed out stun baton with all the Intellect perks and the Physician dismember/instakill is a lot of fun, you can clear whole packs of them in one swing and leave a cloud of bodyparts raining down.

Glock 9, I have the beat playthrough idea. Every piece of cornmeal found has to be taken and only stored in inventory. Melee only and no throwables. Extra points for no hallway builds

Horde Every Night 1x1 series ideas - The Window Washer: Dishong Tower The Window Washer 2: Higashi Pharmaceuticals Return of The Window Washer: this has all Gone to Cell (Tower) and since every 3 part series needs a prequel with a ridiculous name - The Window Washer the Beginning: Nightmare at The Settlement (or any other small tower, it doesn't really matter which one because it's an origins story) and of course a few years later, after people have almost forgotten about the prequel - The Window Washer 1 Last Job: Seemore Bank ***RULES*** you can't build past the top of the building must use weapons that cause fire such as molotovs, flaming arrows, and weps with flaming shaft mod at the Cell Tower limit yourself to concrete or cobblestone and/or limit your weapons/ammo in the prequel only melee and explosives can be used at Seemore Bank because it's your last chance to make it big, and you only had time to scrape together the bare minimum for the job

Done something similar but relied on upping sniper skills paired with sniper rile fully kitted out. You can pretty much keep up killing the top zombie before the group gets to you, and then you avoid the build up at the bottom of the ladders.

Pretty neat concept. And it doesn't even need to be standalone. It could be partially or fully incorporated into another build. And with so many ladders, the damage was spread out enough that, as you said, a Demolisher would even have trouble taking out a concrete one.

Dishong tower is actually my lazy mans horde base. use the elevator. there is already a tower with a ladder going to to top. add ladder pieces to complete the ladder, but leave the broken pieces to stop them for a while. shoot well precise head shots and you can save ammo. when you get into the later stages of the game, you will reset the POI with a trader quest, no need to repair. dogs will loop till the end of the night, so you can kill them all and harvest them at the end.

Series challenge for you: pipe weapons only. You can use whatever tools you like, but damage that you do to zombies must be limited to: * pipe baton * pipe rifle * pipe shotgun * pipe pistol * pipe machine gun * pipe bombs Bonus points for using pistol/shotgun/rifle as primary instead of the machine gun

I did this exact thing - ladder up the side of a building and live on roof, shoot them off ladder, atop the Hotel Ostrich (since renamed Firebase Ostrich)

Unrelated to this, but interesting.....Was watching JaWoodle and he's come across a really useful block type. Scaffolding ladders. Apparently they do things that simple bars, fences or narrow sideways pillars couldn't. They block zombie cop projectiles, yet are melee-transparent and allow access to pickups/turrets/etc.

It seems like that type of a challanges might even be a new arcade gamemode for 7 DTD. Imagine this. You have predetermined set of scores, like 1000 "scores". Where for example: every concrete block is 10 score, steel block is 20, M60 is 100 for lvl 6 and 50 for lvl 3, stack of ammo is 25 scores etc. Your goal is to beat the highest possible horde within limit of those "scores". Or opposit: beat the day 7000 horde with mininal "score". Even though it's obvious that AFK cheese bases become meta for that mode, it's fun thing to think about.

Have been using the ladder with nothing to slow until they get to the top. We place a sledge turret at the top to catch the ones who make it past the ladder and shoot down from a platform above it made of bars. Penetration carries you with the sniper rifle and saves ammo. I run 1 with a scope and 1 with an Acog The idea is like Ender's Game, The enemy gate is down...

With the straight ladder build, you should use a sniper rifle with ap rounds. Probably use less ammo.

I'm not surprised it worked. It's just a vertical killing corridor. Really the challenge it's to figure out how to stop the Zs hitting the base of the ladder. Short, controlled bursts would do that.

You should do a challange where you spawn in or start in a poi, maybe every 1/4 of the day the space your allowed to move around is expanded by 1, would make for a interesting way trying to prepare for hoardnight

Could try 1x2 where it's basically the same thing, but near the top you have a couple of slegies to knock them off. Most of the damage could be fall damage.

In Alpha 21, zombies cannot die from fall damage. The one you witnessed die probably had bleed damage active when it fell. They cannot be reduced below 1hp from fall damage currently.

I feel like the success of "tall ladder and nothing else" kinda blows the lid off the entire industry of clever horde bases. Like it has serious limitations in a strict 1x1 challenge, but without that constraint... Simpler really is better in a lot of ways.

For ladder bases you can up your bow skill and use iron arrows until they get to many or to close. I know this there my favorite horde base, but i do use more then 1 block.

I don't think I'd have gone with the full auto option .... in a 1x1 top down, that seems like a sniper's dream with an 8x scope. a lot more potential for head shots & the ability to see.

I think Molotovs would work well if you tossed them out into the field area before they get to the ladder. With the last build, You might be able to put a 1x1 block on the back side of the ladder, then place a DP on it. It would still be a 1x1 build...unless you had to leave 1 ladder piece gap so it wouldn't be a 1x1.5 build. Would it go through and punch the zombies off without damaging the ladder itself?

great episode, the only thing i would have done differently would be getting a sniper with AP rounds, if you read the books and have the full skills into them you can kill 3-4 zoms with 1 bullet, saving on ladder stalling and way less ammo than the m60, but overall 1x1 challange complete!

Ladder man but it also needs to be your main base/only base, you have to start with a single ladder off of the ground but you can build off of the ladder to make room for storage and crafting benches but watch out for structual integrity! lol

So timed charges work like sticky grenades and I don't *think* they do block damage? You can throw them at zombies and they'll stick. Kinda fun for killing bears.

I think the reason your 1st attempts failed were also the reason your last attempt succeeded. Dogs. Dogs can't climb so they attack the structure. Your last attempt was the only one I didn't see dogs in. That's one of the reasons to have such varied mobs in the game. Some of them cause problems that others don't. Always making you think and adapt and reinvent. Great vid as always.

Just need to remember, when zombies take fall damage they get an attack anything trait for 10 sec. So they will go after the ladder if they don’t die

Another content creator, IzPrebuilt, was talking about this in one of his A21 vids. He mentioned they will do this unless they are outside a certain range of the player. Then they won't do that behavior.

I still recommend a "Shoveling Shit" challenge where you get a steel shovel as your only weapon. Mods are optional and you get a stack of repair kits. I've done it up to about day 200 and it was getting ridiculously difficult.

Ladder worked good, might even be more efficient with sniper rifle+penetrator perk+AP rounds to hit multiple enemies in a row. Also helps on punching through demolishers armor.

What about puting a hatch somewhere in the ladder, to give you some seconds for a reload. They should go up and not attack the ladder, because the hatch is their object.

Imagine 2 players on top of a huge ladder, with maxed out robotics so you both have 2 sledge turrets each, and place them on the ladders at an angle of rotation (you can rotate your ladder to give it an angle of attack). They climb up very high, gets punted and falls and die. 4 Sledge is enough to punt multiple zeds easily.

hey glock next challenge suspension base. something like a base that hangs in-between two buildings or off a cliff i have done them before where zombies drop down to your location. dropping on support pillar wedge most slide off rest run to you and you kill them.

You would have taken less damage from falling with 5000 dukes and that heist-book that reduces falldamage when caring that amount of dukes.

Building the ladder up a shaft from bedrock would presumably remove the danger of being undermined, just need to get the zombies down the shaft first.
