Local multiplayer needs a comeback! So many couples would love to play a game together, whether one screen, split screen, or switching characters between runs, but so few games allow this to be an option.

And remember when being online and connected to the servers wasn't needed to play single player? Now, once a game's servers shut down, the game will be useless, and you'll never be able to play it again, it would seem, because games won't even start if you're not connected to the internet. Buying a game now is just renting it until the makers of the game take their ball and go home with it. I want my non-online single player experiences back!

My guy, you have answered a question that I have been asking myself for years. The Cluefinder games have been hazy memories for so long that I was starting to wonder if they were just my own imagination. I know it's been a year since your comment, but you've given my fevered searches some much-nedded closure.

yeah, I think it made sense for things to go in this direction for a while because the tech and know-how was finally there, but I feel like it also lead to bigger investments which got stuck, be it because of profit/risk assessment, focus group / feature list design, or even being limited by the new technology which was built with realism in mind. That being said, there have actually never been as many wack games being made as now. They're just not the hugest productions.

"Arena" shooters are alive and well: people still play Team Fortress 2 and Quake 3. Nothing better has been made since for some reason. RTS and TBS also deserve love. HoMM3 have a great surge of popularity in the recent years because its a great game and there is nothing like it. In RTS people a lot of people still play StarCraft2 despite its numerous flaws and abandonment by the devs since no good game was made in this genre since. Regarding mini-games - missed opportunity to mention Alley Cat.
@digitaldeathsquid3448
@digitaldeathsquid3448 2 жыл бұрын
Certain RTS titles are making a comeback - just look at the recent release of Command & Conquer Remastered. If not that, thriving modding communities have sprung up around genre mainstays (like the aforementioned C&C or Dawn Of War 1) to keep the games alive after their abandonment. TBS games, particularly 4X titles, also seem to have devoted audiences if the popularity of things like Stellaris or the excitement of the up-and-coming Dune: Spice Wars is anything to go by.

For real! The only reason I won't play the FF7 remake, besides the loony changes made by the KH director, is the awful A-JRPG battle system they've been using since 13. Turn based is magical. Even a hybrid turn based system like that in X-2 would be welcome for me in place of the clumsy and graceless nontactical battle system in place now. Indie games know the way, thankfully, but I do miss big budget games utilizing turn based tactical style combat

Every so often a random person would join in for a bit, with my grandfather also trying for a bit, but otherwise I mostly did it solo. I think someone had joined for the final boss fight, but either way beating it felt SO FREAKING GOOD! The ending itself was pretty amazing too, I still think about some of the lines from it. Still one of my favorite things from that place. I remembered a few others while typing this which I enjoyed too, but Ocean Hunter sticks out as the only one I beat on account of being really persistent and a bit better at games (and having a lotta tokens to spend lol). in short, light gun good

I still remember car combat back on Racing Destruction Set for the C64. You didn't _have to_ win by crippling the other car, using mines, or oil slicks, but you _could_ do so.

12:56 Brutal Sports Football ! That game was so fun to play , stomping on enemies , stabbing with swords and the best part was near the end of the match when HP was low an the heads started to flew around ! Today games look great but suck at entertaining , you just feel that something is missing and sometimes don't even finish the game .

FMV games could actually work really well with modern tech, just look at how well Bandersnatch did on netflix, and that wasn't far off being one

There are still quite a few. I'd recommend Unavowed to start with.

I think that the point and click genre is too big to ever really die, but there are definitely sub genres that have replaced classic games and types. In the pick up/talk to/use X on Y games, we still have Thimbleweed Park and various Telltale Adventures games, but the new ones seem to be focused on making a moral choice or executing a quick time event. We definitely don’t have the classic Sierra and ICOM games where one false move kills your character, and the game mocks your foolishness. I also haven’t seen much of the isolation/exploration games like the Myst series. Come to think of it, I’ve never seen anything else like Myst at all.

@@niagargoyle Riven? 😀 Though I always preferred Zork: Nemesis. There are a lot of other shorter old-school point and click adventures from the last few years, particularly from European indie studios. Usually with a heavy Lucasarts influence, but often quite short due to limited budgets. Daedalic Entertainment has been releasing their Deponia adventure series for several years now, and it’s quite popular.

Disco Elysium is kind like a point and click game. Highly recommended.

I think out of all of those Car Combat takes the cake for me AND you didn't even mention the best one of the bunch (imo) Vigilante 8 and Vigilante 8 - 2nd offence. That was basically an "Arena" Car combat game with "environmental" interactions as well as ability to upgrade cars ( even visually ) and each weapon even had "secret" combos to shoot new "type". God when I first found out you could do interesting combos I wanted to keep playing forever.

We need an HD version of Sim Copter! Even though most of the fun was lowering down a line to save someone on a building and you couldn't tell if they were on the roof or halfway down the side.
