Remus Grecu. I believe his work is right in a sweet spot of dancing between the deft technicality of old master painters and the informative but provocative simplicity of contemporary painting. Much love to the other artists as well, thank you for sharing.

*This isn’t a commentary on this channel. Which is an awesome channel. It’s a comment on the market. I never base what I create on “the market”. But what feels right to me.( and my wife:) Gabriel: A coat on a white chair? Really? Art? Ugly wires? Art? Ritsart: A few smudges of raw canvas? Really? U called it painting! Hahaha, Art? Somaya:Finally something we can call Art. Remus: Awesome art. Right on! Real talent. Not that fake “found”, lousy excuse for Art. Ani’s & Cathrine: Fancy words for bored rich kids. Smells like hype. Marco: Some effort. Interesting effect. Diana: Talented, awesome expression of Art. Real Art.

Otherwise I watched the video just stunned by what I saw, and then after reading the comments I thought: "What the hell did I spend so much time at the university to get a bachelor's degree in the Art and then another 2 years in the Master and after 15 years of teaching, it turns out that I understand nothing in art.

I'm so happy to see all the negative comments on here. I was beginning to think everyone was falling for this crap. Two of the artists on here were talented, but what they produce is hard to look at. This reminds me of popular music today, if it's horrible it's played most often. All the good music is happening underground.

'what they produce is hard to look at' .... that 's the point. How do you feel living a nice paradise? Here on earth people suffer a tremendous amount. Art has nothing to do dodging the fact..

@@archaic9525 No u really dont get the point. Hard to look at as in it has really horrible overcrowded composition imo, not hard to look at as in "human suffering" etc. We see tons of artists that do express human suffering in a far more excellent way whether in contemporary or older works. Art isnt dodging suffering, art scammers are just playing little tricks on everyone making ppl think something is far more worthy than it actually is, just like all big companies are. They're in it for the profit, and barely any of the profit actually goes to the artist.

A bunch of guys get together and decide who is gonna be the art stars of the next few years- it’s an investment racket like any other. Most of the art ends up in giant tax haven storage spaces near or in major airports so billionaires can make their transactions seamlessly without even having to look at the art, why bother? Its a business deal like buying stocks.

A few had a modicum of merit. Most contemporary artists today are about branding and marketing and it shows, all necessary but when it is falsely in contrast and out exchange above the art itself it's another. I think there needs to be a worldwide contemporary Art revolution before we will see any true" Emerging" Artists of any great genes and noteworthy.
@contemporaryartissue

Thank you for tuning in. This is a very common misconception successful artists today are all about branding and marketing. These things are the job of their galleries, not the artist. I know several artists personally from this list and they have never done anything to brand or market themselves. They just focus on making good art, and by doing so they well get noticed and be promoted by galleries, curators, critics and collectors.

When the work is good, artists will get invited by galleries to support and showcase their work. And, without the galleries their career would not be able to prosper. The 50-50% on sales is actually a very fair deal in fact, as one needs the other to survive, and the gallery is in fact the one taking the most risk.

Critchlow and Grecu I admire visually. I respect Gobyn, but who wants to look at those? Why does so much art these days look like the water left over after I've finished washing dishes? I miss the Rococo and Oscar Wilde-can we bring back beauty for beauty's sake?
@contemporaryartissue
@contemporaryartissue 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Duncan, thank you for your genuine and also interesting comment. Critchlow and Grecu are of course visually impressive, as is the case for Marco Reichert and Markosian, according to my humble opinion. Gobyn's works are actually incredibly beautiful and poetic. I've seen them in real life and was seriously considering to purchase one. In fact, I think I still am considering it and will continue to do until I buy one. The Rococo and Oscar Wilde beauty is still around for sure. Think of Michaël Borremans, Ben Sledsens, Hans Aichinger, François Bard, Marius Bercea, Guillaume Bresson, and so on.
@contemporaryartissue
@contemporaryartissue 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mazolab, also thank you for joining the debate. As I have stated in my comment towards Duncan, there still is a lot of beauty to be found in today's art world, and I would not say it's always anachronistic or idiosyncratic. In fact, most of the relevant painters occupied with painting 'beautiful' pictures are not being reactionary at all, rather in a quest for a new balance and synthesis. About Art Basel, yes sometimes I can get snow-blind due to the sheer amount of works of which many aren't very good, but that's the case with many fairs in my opinion.

Most modern art substitutes weird for quality, narrow isms for scope, and trendy for depth. It also refuses to change or even talk about progressive ideas in art like those that follow Too many treat art as a marketing scheme. Modern art has become a trendy clique and the art now is mostly over promoted footnotes to greater art that was done 100 years ago. But art is too important to be reduced to a trendy clique. Post-ism, is art for a new century, not a continuation of last century trends. 1 Mass Market Paintings like Prints. When any art form is mass marketed it enters a golden age. This has happened with books, records, and film. Let's add paintings. Most art is in storage in museum basements. Mass Marketing allows art to tour in copies and allows artists to make royalties on copies. Why do you think the world gets so excited about a new great book, record, or film; but no one cares about a new great painting? All are mass produced except the painting. 2. End a Century of Isms. Dump the genres and formulas and let all kinds of art be a part of the art world. 3. Shift Emphasis From Trendy to Quality. Shift emphasis from the latest trendy art, to quality art in any style. Just because art is weird does not mean it is great art. 4. Free the Art From Museums and Galleries. Get the art out of the ivory elitist museum and gallery towers and back into the world. Have city art centers open to all artists. Make art that is relevant and communicates with people. Start with the first generation of artists online. 5. Postism is Part of a Bigger Revolution. Postism is part of the bigger art and media revolution out of Dallas, that includes art, music, lit, film, media, and a lot more. 6. Postism online: Online artists are the new wave of art. We had all the isms of last century. Now we have a free for all, of all kinds of artists, that are not sanctioned by any museum or gallery, displaying their work. Out of that comes the next wave and revolution of artists. Last century the goal was to fit the ism. This century the goal is to do great art - no ism, no boundaries. Fractionalized art then, synchronized art now. Even calling something modern art is a type of ism that separates that art from the art of the past. The 20th century was a century of experimentation in art. Now in the 21st we can choose from all those styles and / or start one of our own. Then too if someone devises a way to charge and collect a penny per view on a webpage, that would allow any great artist to get money for their art and have a career without any middlemen. Duchamp broke ground 100 years ago - but now his clones are just shoveling dirt. Weird art is easy, you put a strip of raw bacon across an expensive violin, but it's not good art. Join the art revolution and pull the art world out of last century. Musea since 1992.

My goodness it’s amazing how the new looks at the world and that their looking (from the souls perspective) millennium the same. I understand why science seeks invention there is existential need-imperative. But why do artist in every way they can seek it? It must be important because people go to galleries and museums to look at it. Is it a necessity of the soul. That in presenting our realization of being alive we stay alive? If we just follow science and the resulting technologies; leaving humanities to rust and dust- would we loose our soul? Who are we, where do we come from and where are we going? A kind of no exit or ground hog day. With new stuff to at least make the repetition interesting or bearable. Having said all this perhaps this is why old people die they ruin the dream. Youngsta’s don’t see the shadow. If you want to grow old in peace don’t tell them, just sit on the park bench (feed the pigeons) and watch the show. Shout out to the San Francisco Art Institute keeping it real will put them out of business. All you alumni out there if you read this send them money! Please and thank you..

Hi Gerardo, there still is! For instance in this list with Remus Grecu, or on an a higher level with Michaël Borremans, Gottfried Hellwein, Nicola Samori, and more. Both spheres co-exist in the art world, the skilled and the minimal

@@contemporaryartissue thank you for that, these artists are good realist/surrealist my main concern is that they are not Highlighted enough by the art market/establishment. Grecu has only 11k IG followers for example. Artists like Roberto Ferri should have more notoriety in the World wide, but I guess its also how the artists market themselves.
@contemporaryartissue
@contemporaryartissue 2 жыл бұрын
@@gerardozambrano4863 Remus Grecu is a emerging artist who has been doing well the past few years, still needs time to establish himself fully in the art world. But the art market and the establishment at the highest level does appreciate figurative painters to this day, think of Neo Rauch, Luc Tuymans, Peter Doig, Jenny Saville, and so on. I believe the perception of the art world is what is often skewed, as we are stuck in a black and white thinking, the conceptual/minimal or the skilled/figurative. Both co-exist in the highest tiers of the art world, and much more. Further, I often read this 'how artists market themselves'. The thing is, none of the successful artists market themselves, they have simply received good representation due to the quality of their works and the rising demand for their works. Very interesting discussion, thank you Gerardo

Grecu is great, makes a true difference. for he is living in his own world. The other ones.. 1, 2, look like the same, boring cold empty platitude. Number 3 is Tapie-like, i guess his 'merit' is a huge network of carefully chosen friends The other ones are not bad though in line with respective schools, meaning 'nothing new.'. Among these Diana Markosan has flesh and blood and can hope to find a true personal way in the future. Plastic arts is a matter of a long and painful learning process.

Art careers are like tech stocks here. Posing for money the artist promises great write offs. What happened to the last decades promising young hopefuls? The brokers profit as the artists are quickly consumed. Face it, art as a discipline is not science. Its stable and a great value by itself, without modern progress. Photography has left the building, the usurper.
