Today, we’ll be going over the top 7 most common finasteride mistakes you can make when using finasteride.
So if you’re on Propecia, Finasteride, or better yet, if you’re considering starting treatment, it’s your lucky day.
You couldn’t have come to a better place. Stay tuned.

Transcript:
So let’s get into it, the top 7 mistakes finasteride users make.
NOT ALLOWING ENOUGH TIME FOR RESULTS
So we’re starting off with what is probably the most common mistake.
And that’s not giving the treatment enough time to work.
Now finasteride in this respect is like any hair loss treatment- be it pharmaceutical or natural. You need some time to start seeing results.
So the minimum time before the first signs of regrowth is 3 months.
Now you’ll see this 3-month figure popping up all over the place when it comes to hair loss treatments, including minoxidil.
And the reason being, that is the amount of time required for the dormant follicles to switch from the resting phase to the growth phase of their cycle and for the new hair to grow sufficiently. Long enough to actually pop out of the scalp.
So it is physiologically impossible for any dormant follicles to give new hair sooner than 3 months.
That is the absolute minimum to see any sort of change.
But, having said that, in order to appreciate fully the treatment’s efficacy, you need to allow much longer. Basically one full year. At the end of one year, you will have your more or less “final” results.
And at that point you can make an informed decision on whether you want to continue treatment long term.
EXPERIMENTING WITH CONCURRENT MINOXIDIL
Ok so here’s the deal on combining finasteride with minoxidil.
You have to be committed to stick to it for the long run. You have to be in or be out, at the start.
So just saying oh, why don’t I also try minoxidil for 5-6 months as an experiment? And then I can quit - that’s not a good idea.
The reason?
Well, finasteride and minoxidil work in completely different ways. Not just the way you take them - obviously - but on the molecular level.
So finasteride is a classic DHT blocker, but minoxidil’s action is completely unrelated to DHT.
Meaning that if you’ve already been on finasteride for some time and then add minoxidil, you are indeed likely to grow some extra hair. Though it probably won’t be much.
The problem comes when you stop the minoxidil.

I'm having to comb over some long strands from the side to cover it and that only covers the mid part. you know how much that sucks. I honestly feel like crying sometimes just looking at the top of my head. it sucks.

1. Not giving enough time for results (min. 3 months - 1 year) 2. Experimenting with Minoxidil alongside (Minoxidil requires long-term compliance) 3. Sourcing propecia on the black market 4. Not capturing baseline 5. Unrealistic expectations (Finasteride only slows hair loss until you take it) 6. Starting too late 7. Poor hair and habits (improve hair washing)

Ive done the experimenting with minoxidil thing with little info i had at the time other than it would help a receding hairline and if you stopped using it might get worse quicker than before you have started i started and wasnt worried about it until i started to think about how bad it would be if i cant use minoxidil for a month straight out of supply . Am i going to lose my hair completely ? Am i going to have to go bald ? Now i just take it so i dont get my hair to fall out i have to commit to it now unless there is an actual shortage of minoxidil then sure ill go bald and have to live with it . Now the worry of going bald isnt so scary to me anymore if im going bald it is what it is i will try to change my fashion style into something more fitting to a bald person but for now as im still young in my 20s i prefer to preserve as much hair as i possibly can if i have to go bald then oh well not as scary of a problem to me anymore after long thoughts about it for months I will be in the future soon switching into a mixture of finasteride and minoxidil to further strenthen my receding hairline that is only being kept at bay by minoxidil im aware of the possibile sides as long as i pray and hope they arent horrible sides i hit the gym irregularly and i dont want any decrease in libido , man boobs , fatigue etc. although most of these are uncommon , some rare it still carries risk and im going to try it out and hopefully it works well for me in the long run with little to no sides .. So those of you already on minoxidil and afraid of losing your hair the day you dont have minoxidil just know its not a huge deal sure preserve your hairline if you wish but remember its not the end 🙏

I think why men face low libidio on finasteride is that by blocking a certain amount of DHT over time causes a lift in estrogen. DHT helps to regulate or control estrogen levels from rising excessively. An aromatise inhibitor would be required for these individuals

If you stop taking Minoxidil and that hair loss in mass happens(as in point number 2) Does It mean those hair will grow again as they are in a tellogen phase ? (Though they may come up finner) Or will they just stop growing for good? I stopped Minoxidil and I'm seeing a huge hair loss
@WingsWithWax
@WingsWithWax Жыл бұрын
Stopping minoxidil can cause a severe case of telogen effluvium for months (time varies per person). Hair regrowth can happen once the telogen effluvium stops and the growth phase in your hair follicles start. The amount of regrowth is determined by the state of each hair follicle and how far along the miniaturization process is. If the hair follicle isn’t miniaturized then it should regrow after several months to a year. I went through the same thing 🙂

I avoid to consume them abusely or aggresively. Instead giving them sometimes slowly. I take finasteride 0,5 mg only every after 2 or even 3 Day then i combine in between each Day with biotin and other additional supplement which consist zinc, selenium and vit E mostly. In the first 3or 4 months i used to applied minox twice a Day. But after that(month 6 to 8) i only apply it once a day about an hour before i go to bed at night. In the month of 9 untill 11 i only used it twice a week. But i do dermarolling a bit more often like 3 times in a week, and i only spare time between dermarolling and applying minox for about 8 hours (Instead of common 24 hours) The same thing happened in the process of quiting finas, i reduced the dose every 2 months gradually and slowly, , untill i completely quiting finas in the month of 6 or 7. Ketanazole shampoo twice or only once a week. Now after 2 years quiting those treatment my hair still remains thick even still geting thicker untill Now. The key is take your time slowly and let the treatments periode go longer than usual pattern and avoid the abusing behaviour in using them. then You might gain more permanent and save result. @rmartin6914

I would start by counting the individual hairs you loose each day in the shower. The first treatment would be Minoxidil for at least 6 months. If during the end of the 6 months your daily hair loss has reduced significantly, then just keep using that and you're set :). If it hasn't stopped the hair loss by much, then you could ADD finasteride (topical Finasteride seems to have significantly less side effects the the oral pill). Finasteride will start working in about 4 months.

Dermarolling has an effect similar to Platelet Rich Plasma: it stimulates collagen production and blood flow. You can do it with or without minoxidil-though I don’t see why you wouldn’t combine it. Finasteride is a 5a-II inhibitor and has nothing to do with the mechanism of action that dermarolling has; you can definitely combine it.

They work independently. Meaning the hairs grown by minoxidil will not be maintained by finasteride. So he’s saying don’t start using minoxidil if you’re not sure you’re going to commit to it. Also it might be helpful to try both separately so you know which is producing the most results and decide which you want to use.

This that it do not give any effect after 40 I find it hard to believe. It must depend on the DHT levels still right. Also that the effects would wear of is strange. Usually it’s that the persons gets spikes in DTH due to training etc etc. I paused my finasteride a little when I was 44 and I started to shed and loose a bit. And started again and then I stopped and I regrew a little again.
@arno8327

There are a couple studies you can find online that shows Fin itself doesn't lose its effectiveness over time (serum and scalp levels of DHT always stay the same, something like that). Like you said, it's the amount of DHT during spikes, and overall increase in sensitivity to DHT the older you get.
@litjellyfish
@litjellyfish 4 жыл бұрын
Arno yea and to be fair. Is it really any good data that proves we get more sensitive to DHT when we get older? Often it seems that DHT is leas when older. So why do people perceive they are loosing hair when older? My own pure gut feeling speculation is this: We get older. Even guys with perfect hairlines and no real MPB get thinner hair. Our bodies get older. Grey hairs is thinner. Even body hair is thinner. We might get grey busky eyebrows. Nose and ear hair. But even that hair is usually thin in nature = summary. Old people have less thick and good hair quality for both DHT and not DHT sensitive hair. Above in combination with MPB Especially those with slow or semi aggressive thinning. It’s not more DHT sensitivity. It’s just the toll. If hair slowly gets thinner + my previous point. Well then you reach phases when it visually looks like you are loosing more. Like when you are 60 , 70. Also I think older me. Don’t care to style as much as before So my theory is we are DHT sensitive in the same way. It’s just progression and other factors that kick in at certain ages :) This said. Maybe there is data proving we get more DHT sensitive when older. Just never heard it. Also finasteride for Hairloss is about 30y old how. So it’s just now we will see people using fin hitting their 60+ It will be interesting to monitor if those will suddenly loose more hair. My bet is that they will loose very little. If finasteride hace kept them stable since starting I think it will continue to be stable until the end of life.
@arno8327
@arno8327 4 жыл бұрын
@@litjellyfish You're completely right, I haven't seen a study that shows that we become more DHT-sensitive the older we get aswell! That just might be it, taking care quite a lot of older people, I can tell you it's true that overall quality of their scalp hair is altered, and in a diffuse way, even on non DHT-sensitive hair, like you said. Even on females. But still: as we get older, our androgens levels tend to decrease, and yet we tend to increase our chance of developping BPH, which is caused by DHT. So yeah, I don't really know what's going on with DHT at an older age, I know it does bind to androgen receptors really well but it should be less present with the natural decrease in T... Well to be honest, I can only thing of Trump as a an older dude using Finasteride, but you know... Trump and hair doesn't go very well in the same sentence haha...

@rmartin6914
@rmartin6914 4 жыл бұрын
Fin does address the root cause. Unfortunately, Fin doesn't completely shield the hair roots from DHT. Eventually years after, the hair roots will be covered with DHT and it will die because of lack of blood supply.
@rmartin6914
@rmartin6914 4 жыл бұрын
There is no cure though. It all comes to genetics. Those who experience MPB have hair roots that are sensitive to DHT. Some men don't and that's why they won't experience much hair loss.

@@rmartin6914 but if let's say fin decreases the amount of Dht in the scalp just enough to stabilize the hair loss, despite the sensitivity of the roots, wouldn't that explain why many users successfully maintain their hairline until old age? Isn't that success on its own 😁
