I agree. People say comfort and style don’t go together but not so. However I must say they also make “flip flops” that are comfortable with memory foam and quite Beautiful!

Dang. I have Birks, but they are the skinny straps. I bought them to wear to yoga class, but occasionally I wear them elsewhere. I really like the white tennis shoes you have a link to.

I am one of those people who will never give up my Birkenstocks. However, I don't like the ones with wide straps and big buckles. Birkenstock makes several sandals that are much more elegant than the ones you showed. Also, the sandals you show do not look at all comfortable. They don't have any arch support. I'm with you on everything else though.

Oh, Marie-Anne! You had me in tears of laughter with your presentation! 100% agree on every count. I nearly fainted when my podiatrist sent me to buy a pair of Birkenstocks. I have never bought anything so ugly before. However, since I do have issues with my feet, I wear them when I am alone at home. Never in front of a full length mirror. And, yes, my dogs are not impressed either . Except they know that I am not going anywhere with those shoes!

i broke a little toe several years ago. The only shoes I could wear without gasping in pain were my Birkenstocks. So, yes, I'm keeping them and my beloved Alegias. Most flats make my back hurt, even if they are padded.

Agree. I'm keeping my Vionics, Earth Origins, Taos. Maryann would hate them but I'm not willing to sacrifice painfree feet for style.

I agree with everything, HOWEVER, some of us are less fortunate. Swollen feet need shoes/ sandals to be adjustable from day to day or from hour to hour. Sandals that you showed are not the answer. I select what are the most acceptable sandals like La Plume, they have adjustment at mid foot, around ankle and the back. Wish I could send you a photo. One has to deal with limitations that life presented are with. Dobrila

Marie-Anne, I'm in my 50s and I have debilitating arthritis. Unfortunately, there's no cure and I have to take pain medicine for it. I feel terrible because I'll never be able to wear heels again. However, i found two pair of flats and I wear my comfort shoes until it's time for me to get out of the cr and go in to church, a social event or out with friends or my hubs. I bring my nicer shoes with me and change just before I get out of the car.

Secondly... You have very pretty healthy feet, not very long. So you can wear EVERYTHING! Strappy sandals don't suit every woman. But some suggestions of yours are worthwhile to be considered... Thanks for the tips!

Just came back from a month in Portugal and Spain, walking all day in my Hoka One One shoes. (Founded in France in 2009 by Nicolas Mermoud and Jean Luc Diard). No blisters, back pain etc. 😉

Love the suggestions and the styles, however, as a bunion sufferer with wide feet, it is difficult to find and wear stylish shoes. Sadly, my collection of colorful Birkenstocks has become my go-to footwear but here in Southern CA, it's quite fashionable.

Coco is adorable. Love your videos. Birkenstocks are so on trend here in the U.S. They have been for years. I don't understand the appeal for Crocs. They never look like they fit properly. Sneakers are my go-to shoe all year round. I also prefer loafers and ballet flats.

Shoes are my nemesis… not about comfort but about keeping my back healthy (past injury). Large (long, not wide) feet for which I struggle to find shoes that fit. Shoes that look cute in a size 7 look like clown shoes in a 10/11. Can’t wear flats - need at least 1 1/2 inch to avoid back pain. Slides often do the heel flip/flop thing. Stores are not stocking so ordering online… I’ve returned 5 pairs of sandals in the last month. ‘Wow or Non” takes a backseat to finding something that will fit without pain. Ordering outside of my country 🇨🇦 with such inconsistent sizing between and within the same brands would be a return $ nightmare. I don’t whine often, but there is my one rant… Champagne problems 😉Thank you, Marie-Anne, for this light hearted video 💕 💃

I am currently wearing my rose print canvas shoes, my only pair. One of the first questions I ask when selecting the shoes I plan to wear is how far I am walking. My canvas shoes are indoor shoes. Most canvas shoes don't provide enough support for distance walking. They can be stylist and comfortable. When I went out earlier, I switched to my navy blue joggers which are also stylish. I keep my second pair of joggers at the gym for actually working out. Except for sandals, I always wear socks or hose to protect both my feet and the shoes.

How about a video showing shoes and sandals with thicker soles and arch support? That’s all I can wear any more and I detest the orthopedic look. It is really difficult to find attractive shoes for damaged feet.

Great video! Love Coco! I follow your advice. I'm in Paris and I brought comfortable, stylish shoes with me, more pairs than usual because I'm here for a month. I have two pairs of loafers (1 sling-back), ballet flats, sneakers. I've been walking 6-8 miles a day, and although that's tiring in any shoes, I feel stylish and comfortable. I purchased a trench coat and a cardigan at Sézane!

I agree, thanks for covering this subject since I posted a comment yesterday asking if French women wear sandals. I am an American AND I am constantly appalled at the number of ugly sandals people go out in public wearing; Birkies, Crocs, huge plastic platforms, lace up gladiators things, etc, it is such an awful way to ruin a look to me. And yes, I do judge them because of it.

I agree, and I also think that The Walking Company probably has some styles once in a while that aren’t too cloddy looking. But you have to be sort of shoe shopping all the time to catch the style when it appears.

In the past year I've transitioned from hoodies, tie dye tshirts and Crocs to white sneakers, striped tshirts, denim jacket, trench coat. I'm 67 now... Time to grow up I guess lol

Dear Marie- Anne, I agree totaaly with you, the shoes you showed are not stylish, but Birkenstock i.e. very healthy especially when you have to do long walks or stand on your feet the whole day. It would be worth doing a video for those women who need medical support for their feet ("empreints" or others), who have real orthopaedic problems when wearing wrong footwear.

Ballet flats are so feminine! Where I live, Birkenstocks with warm socks have been the style for a few decades now. I don't think my cut off men's rain boots that I wear in the chicken coop are a big improvement over Crocs lol

Top marks for this one, Marie-Anne! What shape of toe do you think is most flattering in a ballet flat? I’m seeing a lot of straight/square cut styles, but they seem to make my foot look stubby. Same for the very rounded styles.

I agree. I love my leopard ballet flats. Toms makes cool shoes. I have a batik pair. I will try not to wear my gangrene coloured crocs in the garden.

Marie Ann, I actually laughed out loud at certain parts of this video. I wear cute sandals and loafers when I’m out. However, I have osteoporosis and suffer from pain in my hips and back when standing for a long time. When I’m home a wear Crocs clogs as the rubber helps with the pain. Can you suggest an alternative? Your dog is adorbs❤️. Oh, I will be in Paris for one day and night this June. So excited! I am planning my outfit so I look like a “French Chic Lady”.
