Bought mine a year ago. Bought 5k under msrp due to incentives ect. Best car I’ve ever owned. Blast to drive. Imo best first upgrade is access port. Stage 1 Cobb loaded it’s a completely different car to drive (much more tq and more fun). Buy it you won’t regret it plus they aren’t gonna be making them anymore.

I was surprised that you did not mention an intercooler upgrade. That would be my first upgrade due to the heating issues that exist when you push the power a lot such as on a track run. I like the big cpe intercooler.

Hey man, nice work I’ve watched a couple videos so far. I like your advice in general and your skepticism. There’s some things you describe that I understand that have better engineering terms for them but you do a nice layman’s description that works well. Planning to do my own videos when I really break open my focus this summer!

Gjeebs Glad to see you’re still doing mods on the ST, just picked mine up about two months ago couldn’t be happier! Was wondering I saw another video where some guy added Apple CarPlay to his 2017 mustang by changing out a USB port found in the glove box. Can this be done with the ST? He purchased a USB from Ford for about $50, it would be an awesome video👊

My exhaust upgrade was my favorite. I have the AWE touring non-resonated one and it sounds really good it crackles and burbles all the time, it has no drone, and you can actually hear the turbo at times as well. I would highly recommend it for anyone looking at exhausts.

I got a RS air box from a Ford dealer on ebay for $72 , awesome upgrade. I also have 25mm wheel spacers all the way round, they make the car look great. I have a 3" Roush exauhst, it is very loud and droans bad at certain RPM. I recomend the Turbosmart duel port BOV, it sounds like a straight BOV but circulates back to the intake also and its adjustable. I love the FSWERKS shift plate, 3 positions and easiest install because the screws go in from the top not the bottom like the other shift plates.

I agree on the motor mount. I have the CPE Stage 2 (which is what I believe what you're referencing) on my RS and it was a fantastic upgrade in terms of acceleration and crisper shifts. Also prevents the engine from banging against the firewall which was a pretty frightening sound. Also the Mountune quick shift, solid shifter bushings, and steeda clutch spring have all significantly improved the driving experience.
@Gjeebs

Cory Falcone Definitely agree with the clutch spring, but can't justify the entire clutch perch for more than 4x the price. Took me less than 5 minutes to switch out the spring and it makes daily driving the car so much more enjoyable. Such an easy upgrade 20 bucks is a no-brainer!

I agree with you TOTALLY - I bought this car for my son and I only want to buy him the Ford Motorsport add on's (Mountune is included in that as the dealer sells and installs the parts). - Clear Bra - Yes. If you can afford it, do it no matter where you live. I did front bumper, entire hood, mirror caps and A-pillars and I'm really glad I did. This is my second ST, the first one was chipped and beat to hell after a couple of years not having it, the new one still looks awesome and I'm glad I spent the money - Rear Motor mount - yes, definitely. Improves launch traction and wet traction a LOT, and makes everything about the car feel more solid. 2015 and newer models have a much better factory rear MM, but the aftermarket ones are still better. I would avoid aftermarket upper motor mounts unless your car is for track use. it increases vibration by a factor of 10, it's really abusive. - air filters, intakes etcs... BS. Don't waste your money unless you just want purple or neon green shit under your hood for some reason - exhaust - marginally worth it unless you just want a different sound - sound composer delete - this "feature" annoyed the living hell out of me. it was the first thing I modified, and it's a cheap and easy fix - tires - yes, sort of. The F1's are a fine summer street tire, but get a second set of wheels and mount some Blizzak or Ice-X's on them for winter use if you live in the north. - Brake pads - I despise dust. If you do too, swap them out immediately. I used Power Stop Z23's front and rear and they are great street pads, MUCH lower dust, and zero noise. And they are a fraction of the cost of high end stuff that is not needed unless you track you car. - Tunes - proceed with caution. Tuning your car can and will come with consequences, and some can be catastrophic. Even the Ford branded tune has been a cause of denied warranty claims. Beware. Unless you have the money to suffer the consequences, don't jerk around with tunes. If it's a daily driver, stay away from them completely. - Shifter bushings - DO IT... get the solid aftermarket ones for both the transmission end of the cables AND the solid uness for inside the console where the shifter frame is mounted. you will LOVE it - Hood struts - DO IT. They are cheap and easy, and damn, it's nice not dealing with that stupid hood prop rod being in my way constantly (I rec. RedLine) Mind you, I don't race my car. I daily drive it on the street and don't get into stop-light shenanigans (well not very often anyway). I want comfort and a solid feel just for the personal satisfaction, I'm not chasing horsepower or lap times. I'm, the type who would want a faced gearset just because I like how it feels, not because it'll make my ET's lower and more reliable. I like an unmodified look and for things to be very subtle, I don't want the ricer label. I want a highly reliable car that makes me smile when I demand that of it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Normally I'd say fuck intakes but on this one that intake tube is jacked well okay so I have an escape 2.0 all-wheel drive which is basically the same car as y'all's except all-wheel drive and y'all have like a different tune I believe but anyways that intake tube is so jacked on this car that is one where I'm going to get a cold air intake for a new intake piping as my next mod first thing I did was catch can that's first thing I do on any car even if it's not a performance car so I kind of agree with you but on this one I think it might be worth it for an intake. also in regards to the guy the cap on the end of the cone needs to be there so you're not sucking in hot engine bay air so that it only uses the air from the snorkels that go to the front of the grill so you get fresh cool air

Great suggestions if you bought this car and have a low budget for upgrades. Me personally, I have gotten rid of those heavy stock wheels and all seasons in favor of wider and super sticky eagle f1 supercar tires, CPE fully enclosed intake and intercooler, CPE Charge pipe kit, CPE xflex stage 2 RMM, MBRP turbo back 3 inch exhaust, boomba BOV, boomba short throw trans adapter plate, Cobb short throw shifter, and Cobb accessport v3 tuner.

Why in the hell would you put Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires on a Focus ST? Those tires are absolute garbage until you warm them up properly and are hockey pucks at anything below 50 degrees. They came on my 2010 Shelby GT500 and they were straight up trash. Those tires barely lasted the 22K miles I had put on the car by the time I got rid of it. If you are tracking the car and have the opportunity to warm them up properly, then ignore my comment. But for daily driving those tires are just crap. Sorry.

Couple things if I may add sir :) 1 clutch assist spring - the clutch in it, I felt, tried to kick you out of pedal travel the last little bit. This makes it completely smooth pressure no more "kick out" 2 throttle pedal spacer, moves the gas closer and more even to the brake. I personally couldn't heel toe shift until I did this. Down side it might be hard to find a comfortable place for gas pedal foot but only a minor discomfort for me there And 3 anyone looking to upgrade exhaust google custom magnaflow focus st, sounds nice and is literally 1/2 the price of a cat back HOWEVER I don't know if it meets the requirment for stage 2 tunes. Again just thought I would add these to people looking :)

The Qusife ATB differential is worth the money; it really controls torque steer and helps put the power down very effectively. It helps a lot in snow, too! I got the Ford rear motor mount; it comes standard on late ‘14 models and newer and is the one that comes on the RS; and it’s cheaper than the ones from Mountune, Cobb, etc; but not as ‘purdy. I have the MP-275 package plus the Mountune cat-back exhaust which gives me about 263 wheel horse power. The stock clutch seems to handle it well and the extra punch makes passing and merging easy. But I do a fair amount of long distance driving in it and I miss being able to use regular gas. Sometimes premium isn’t available and that can be a problem with the ST’s small gas tank. I bought Ford’s M-5200-U lowering springs; about 0.5” drop from stock and 20% stiffer. You notice the difference. It’s flatter in turns but your wife will comment on the ride! I put on Powerstop M-23 front brakes; drilled and slotted with their carbon-fiber/ceramic pads. The big brake kits were just too high for me and these look and operate very well. I wasn’t sure about them when I bought them but I have been very pleased. They are more than adequate for street use; single cylinder but they will trip the anti-lock system in an instant. I have standard ST pads and rotors on the back. I bought the Ford front brake cooling air diverters from Steeda last week and need to install them, and I definitely want to get an upgraded recirculation valve for the turbo. It never ends...!

Great video. Just to throw this out there..intercooler intercooler intercooler!!!! Thats where you get your power. No it doesnt add power, but lets you use the power you have. The stock intercooler will cause you to lose 16hp and 40 ft pnds of torque when it heat soaks after 2 good pulls. My charge temps on a 65 degree day will hit in the 130 to 145 degree range with a 3rd to 4th gear pull. With my depo racing cooler on a 65 degree day will hit 67 to 71 degrees. Before spending 800.00 on a cat back exhaust id suggest the intercooler if power is your goal. Keep up the good work!

Finally about 2 months ago it was time to get rid of the eagle F1, I would loose traction in 1,2, and even 3rd when the tires were "cold" (I live in florid so anything under 70 is considered cold) Got the new Michelin PS4 which are simply incredible! I was considering the mountune filter, it seems a shame to keep it hidden inside the stock air box, do you lose much performance not having it in the air box? Or is it more for just keeping crap out the filter.

I use the stock mounts, cut out the stock rubber out of the mount. Then take a hockey puck a shape it to the side of the whole you want but a little bit bigger, press the puck in, then drill the hole for the bolt and press a long washer through the center. I’ve done this in a ton of cars and it doesn’t have body vibration. Never had one fail either. FYI for a cheap engine roll fix.

I have no problems with the brake vectoring at all, really. The car pulls close to a g on the skid pad! When I play with SI's in the twisties (stock suspension vs. stock suspension) I have no issue walking away from them. Its truly no contest. Of course we have quite a bit more power to play with but, Ford did a wonderful job tuning the suspension in these cars. I'm a big fan of Honda's too but, the ST is a confidence builder as far as the driving experience is concerned.

Have you been through the monsoon season with this car yet? I'm supposed to be heading to Phoenix this May and probably July and I know how bad it is, hoping I don't get sandblasted.

Suggest the Ford Racing/Performance short throw shifter assembly along with the JBR short shifter arm set to 40%....I love this set up, would compliment the shifter bushings too.

Not going to lie. I just got my st this past Thursday and if it wasn’t for you telling which is better between the Wrx or the Focus. I would’ve went with the Wrx. So far I love my St. im thinking about going with the Cobb cold air intake kit for my first upgrade then the same exact exhaust you have from ford performance

I just bought an '18 ST & I'm still trying to decide if I like it or not. I find the clutch to be very heavy & the shifter to clunk alot going into & out of gear. Maybe I just need some seat time, but so far I can't see myself having this car very long. The MPG's aren't good either, but that's probably because I'm in SoCal & it's just a constant start/stop w/ a million red lights.

I've been waiting for the Ford calibration for my 2018, but I'm getting alil tired of waiting, here in July it's alil long in the tooth. And what you said about Cobb being made for several different car manufacturers doesn't have any basis because it's not about the Cobb accessport itself it's the tuner who is tuning the Accessport for the Ford. Which there are protuners that have been tuning the focuses as long as theyve been available. And I believe mountunes mp275 tune is on an Accessport just relabeled as a mountune tuner, but it is from Cobb with the tune file written by mountune possibly by Randy if he was there then. But there are quite a few very reputable protuners, and I think if you look into the statistics of engine failures after tuning, you'll find that there are just as many if not more ford calibration failures as there are accessport related tune failures, it's all about how safe they keep the parameters of the tune and what factory strategies they keep in place to monitor certain PIDs.

Anyone think this calibration would work fine with a cold air intake or bcc better with ford intake kit? Bought mine 2 mos ago and came with a cobb cold air. I also dont mind spending money to get oem intake parts and selling my cobb. I know cal is,tuned with intake kit but dont want too much air if itll only spit more fuel to burn since it has speed sensor over maf. I want proper set up

I put a cold air intake in my car and about 15 minutes after driving, my check engine light turned on for some air flow censors in the intake and bank 1 on the cat, is that normal? I took it off and a day later the check engine light turned off

Yo whats up! Just bought an st a couple days ago. I went for it because my 08 ses is a utilitarian beast at commuting and gravel road fun and has proved to be honda status in durablity having 226,000 miles and only needing a couple valve cover gaskets as well as axles aside from basic maintenance (oil, brakes etc..). My st is a stock 2017 with the kona blue metallic, Is there any caveats that come with this car? also what oil and filter would you recommend? you're st seems to be well taken care of. Cheers!

great video. I'm wondering if there's a different engine setup for the US and European market. I usually run 95 octane with my '14 ST, but a lot of people here recommend 98. Haven't noticed any difference so far, but anything below 91? You can't even get gasoline with less over here...
@kennethsmith7841
@kennethsmith7841 5 жыл бұрын
In Europe the octane rating is the RON figure. In USA it is average of the RON and the MON figure called the AKI ( anti knock index). So, 97 octane in Europe is roughly 91 octane in USA.
