Honestly the model has been growing on me. I don't think the standard paint scheme does him any favors though. He's certainly in line with the old Macharius model

I'm glad you found a use for him To me he is an over priced clown show fluff piece BUT , I do like idea of Armored sentinel wall around him with the "new" rules coming : would a pair of baneblades be a better option than the "new" tank ?

From a purely playing the game to win standpoint, baneblades are still worse options compared to a points-equivalent amount of Leman Russ's or Rogal Dorn. Rogal Dorn's T9 makes sometimes more efficiently tougher than a Leman Russ, however for firepower per point a Russ won't be beat.

Baneblades are not battle tank so they unfortunately cannot benefit from his lord commander solar ability to reroll all hits

So I've got a plan. I'm gonna make a "Sentinel Commander" character model to proxy as the lord solar. Then, ride him along with sentinels bc sentinels benefit from orders

I think a great way to use the lord solar is to take 1 full unit of bullgryn, 1 full of ogryn, a bunch of infantry, and charge up the middle of the board and just dominate. You can still follow up with a rogal dorn or a stormtrooper unit and use his lord commander solar ability!

Lord Solar has impressive stats for a Marine character. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the charge bonus RR have.

He does, he's strength 6, it's baked into his datasheet. He just doesn't have a Melta Lance for strength 8

What base size is he? Since Death Riders have gone legends, there's no HQ to lead rough riders anymore other than him. I'm not going to buy his model, but I'll counts as the fuck outta my kitbashed one.

Honestly I think it’s the paint scheme. Like the model itself looks nice but the gawdy ass gold and baby blue combo just does not do it for me.

I’ve got an old DKOK Death Rider Commissar model that I’ve converted to have a power klaw and a stuck on a spare heavy weapons team base I’ve had laying around for a couple years

I'm going to be honest on the model, I have to kit bash that horse out from under him, maybe a jet bike when they come out or something because I'm kind of sick of the WW1 Theme the Guard get with Horses and old school gas masks. The Dorn has a 60's vibe as far as tanks go and the new leaked bits kit with updated gas maskes which are cool and I will try and make a modern looking Kreg soldiers which it. \o/ It's a love it or hate it model I guess.

Good video MG. The Lord Magnificent and his Mechanical Gigi model just doesnt quite fit into the Guard army thematically to me. Any recommends on a more grimdark proxy model? Like any of the old 'My little Pony' toys - Am I right?

Part of the grim darkness of the 41st millenium is that it's a universe where extreme wealth, power and splendor is directly next to the exact opposite. Personally, my lord solar will be getting a Napoleonic headswap (a tricorne or bicorne) but otherwise, I like the idea that the higher you get into the ranks of the astra militarum, the more... disconnected officers become from the rank and file--a nice vibe callback to when the only way to be an officer was to be a member of the aristocracy who had nothing in common with the soldiers they'd command.

Just do a different paint scheme. Look up some alternative schemes people have done. SO many complaints about the model are solved by painting him differently.

If you need a named character for your army you do something wrong (except if you do a themed army like the catachans wich is not catachan enough without the holy trinity Straken, Harker and AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Sly Marbo)

Pure buffing character is so boring for guard. it is or Born soldiers spam or Russ spam. Even broken Kasr combo has more CUNNY gameplay in it. Gw should delete mechanic of rerolls not from magic in 10 ed. and yea Gw *** your kasrkin bait. nerf them already and buff Tempestus. we all know your sales plan.
