one big hidden feature you didn't mention and surprisingly a lot of people don't even know about would be "smart device control" which turns a phone or tablet into a monitor so your able to wirelessly see what the camera is seeing, along with adjusting your settings and start/stop record or snap a photo from a distance. Really good way to save a couple of hundred on a monitor. Helps a lot for product photos being able to see more of what's in focus.

Hey Dunna, I personally use picture profiles for event photography. Many say they don’t effect raw photos but they do in a few ways. I use a custom cine gamma setting so that I have a deeper black in my lowlight shoots. Its‘s a great way to encounter ISO grain.

Usually I’m all for customizing everything specifically to my liking, but I still can’t make myself like the Sony menu and button layout. I think it needs a better “default” layout/setup that can then be customized if necessary. Custom function buttons are great, but when you want them to do different things depending on what mode you’re in, it can get annoying to try to remember it all. I’ve also found that some camera cages block 1 or 2 of the custom buttons, at least partially, making it even more cumbersome. Still a helpful video, I personally just like how my 5D Mark IV works as far as real buttons go, and as I swap between modes and photo/video infinitely more. Still a helpful video, I definitely didn’t know all of them 👍

Nice Video, thanks. The most important one for me is missing. You can map a custom Button in a way that you can toggle between AF-Areas e.g. I have set my joystick press to toggle between AF-Wide and the medium field. It’s a true game changer for me.
@dunnadidit
@dunnadidit 4 жыл бұрын
Well now you just thought me one! What’s that feature called?
@u_nico_rn
@u_nico_rn 4 жыл бұрын
@@dunnadidit It's actually more of a hack rather than a feature :D First you set your cam into the first AF Area you want to toggle between. For me it's AF Wide Then you register that AF Area in menu 7/14 "AF Area Regist". Next your map the function "Regist AF Area tggle" to a custom button. Now you set your AF Area to the second AF Area you use. For me that's "Lock on AF: Flexible Spot M". And that's it. Now you can switch between the two AF Areas with that custom button. As I only need to switch between these two anyway, I never have to go into that menu again. Oh and extra tip: Map that function to some custom button and additionaly map the "Focus Standard" to the joystick press. That way, you can center the spot AF quickly with a press of that button. Try it out and tell me what you think. Takes a bit to get used to but it's the best hidden feature so far for me.

The 'bright monitoring' (At least in my Sony A7III) just change the screen brightness. I did what you said, Manual focus, disable the Manual focus assist, photo mode... It doesn't change temporary the exposure
@dunnadidit
@dunnadidit 4 жыл бұрын
Did you do it in a dark area? I tried it once in a place where it wasn’t dark and I thought it wasn’t working but it estimates how bright it thinks you’ll need it so it doesn’t do anything when it’s not dark. But if it changes the screen brightness for you, you may have chosen the wrong function.

did you actually take a shot? it should shoot in the settings that are actually input as opposed to what youre seeing. like temporary night vision. i use the fuck out of this feature when shooting with flash in a dark room and im using a vintage lens that doesnt have auto focus

Not a Sony shooter, but those are some great features I didn't know existed on DSLRs, like stacking. Cool! Wonder if it's on ancient Canons too .......

I knew about half of them since I don't shoot in movie mode yet. Personally, I wish the had more memory save options. Yes, you can store some on the card, but not permanently.

Sony a7rii or sony a6500 which should i get? I’m going to use the camera for videos on youtube and street and portrait photography. If you have any lens reccomendations that will be really helpful.

A6500 if those are your two options. In my opinion.

I like to keep live view preview mode mapped to a custom button so that if I'm shooting with flash so that if I'm shooting off modeling lights and am going to have a flash I can see what I'm doing

Mansoor Mughal - I think it was a gift from my mom quite a while ago. I LOVED Gumby when I was a kid so I think she bought it for me when she saw it. Not sure where she got it though.

Mind blown. I fully expected to know all of them, and knew almost none of them. I have worked in a camera store for 13 years and sold Sony since they came out with their first slr. I talk just about everyone I can into an a7 type camera. The Fn button thing I should have known. So much easier.

the FN button on my Sony A6300 doesnt do what yours did, on mine it jumps to the functions (like the a6600 in the video)

Yup! Like I said, it only seems to work on Sony’s full frame lineup. Which sucks because it’s super handy and would be super easy for them to implement!

Unfortunately, I don’t own every Sony alpha camera so I couldn’t test all the features but I’d guess that the 6100 has most of them except the full frame only features

I can't decide what camera should I buy. Fuji xt4 or Sony a6600? I know Fuji is probably better but I don't know if it's worth paying more. Or there is other camera worth buying
@dunnadidit

My advice would be to go to a camera store and hold them. Whichever one makes you more excited to shoot when it's in your hand, get that one.
