When I got my horse he was really over weight. He always acted up (he was in pasture for 7 years not ridden due to the owner not being able to ride him) which was understandable considering he wasn’t ridden, tho once he lost his weight and went to a healthy amount Omg. He was throwing his head, bucking, running all over the pasture. He looked super happy. He’s an old boy too 20 years old. So I’m glad he’s living his best life

An owner's love for his or her pet is pure love itself! Dogs and cats cannot speak, but they are carefully nurtured while thinking about what they want and need, and the pets return the love directly to you as much as you love them. Yes, they are family!🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴

We got mini horse for my quarter horse mare! They are perfect companions! They are very easy to care for and are pretty tough. You don't have to shoe them either. Usually you only have to worry about overfeeding them since they put and keep the weight on so well. Definitely recommend a mini! And they are adorable!

We have two horses and three shetlands to make up the herd. They boss each other around but love each other as well. Take one out of sight and the others are all calling. The group dynamic is also great to learn more about them in general.

Great video. I didn’t get into horses until I was around 50. My wife is the expert and a great teacher. 10+ years on and I still feel like a newbie. I’m glad I already do all the things you mention. Except we don’t need to stable them. They are outside all the time but they can take cover if they feel like it. They have such character and it’s a privilege to earn their trust. Thanks for sharing your knowledge

Thank you so much for sharing the need for 24 hr access to forage!!!! This is so absolutely important to the health of your horse! This and at least 6 hrs turn out. Horses were designed to cover miles a day grazing and just generally covering their territory. Just because we buy them stalls to live in, does not mean that what we are doing is good for them. The things people ask from their horses every day that are completely unnatural for the horse, and then act shocked when they are negligent to comply. Thank you for sharing this super duper valuable information!!! You Just made my day seeing you provide such clear and valuable information. Also wanted to add when you DO need to moisturize your horses’ hooves, only do for the cornet go the bottom of the outside wall. NEVER ON THE SOLES, and ABSOLUTELY NEVER ON THE E FROG OF THE HOOF!! That part of the hoof is extremely extremely porous and needs to be able to breathe. I did it wrong for years, and when I followed these directions from my farrier, it was night and day difference!

what is the best way to make moving from one barn to another less stressful on your horse? We will be moving barns soon and he has a pasture mate now but when we move he will be alone in the field for about a week or two before his new pasture mate will be there. He is also underweight at the moment and we are trying to fix that slowly but i don't want him to lose moe weight from stress when we move him.

I always do 1 tube of ulcergard (4 days worth) and spend lots of time with them walking the pasture showing them water etc. If there's good grass and hay (alfalfa for underweight ones) they tend to stay focused on that!

I only have one horse, and no other animals to be around him. But me and my parents have been thinking about either getting a donkey, another horse for the pasture, or just maybe goats to accompany him. But we really can't at the moment since we will be leaving to another state for the summer, and he will be going to some other people to just feed him at another barn. We will be getting barn cats after the summer because there is a nasty big rat in my barn. Does anybody know if there is a good non-horse companion that's good for horses?

i feel like a terrible person now... i already knew that horses need to go out on pastures, but the thing is, the equestrian center where i go doesn't have pastures ;_; now i know, i should find another place, but the horse isn't mine (cuz i have no money) at least everyday in winter i take the horse on a walk around for like one-two hours, and in summer/spring they have like little "paddocks"... about the fact that the horse is a herd animal, my pony has his best friend always with him, like their paddocks are next to each other (cuz the paddocks are too small for two horses, i know that's fucked up) and in winter they have boxes next to each other.. i hope that kinda helps what i am doing right now, cuz i am too poor to buy that horse

I loan my horse at the owners farm and he doesn’t have any other horses near him except cows and goats. He gets really excited when he sees other horses which can also sometimes be dangerous like when I take him for walks he will start going crazy over the horses next to the road which will stop traffic and is just extremely dangerous. Because I have him on loan I can’t get another horse for him, so I wondered if anyone knows what I can do to help him x

Work on getter closer to the road/horses slowly. If he's overreacting then he's past his "thinking" threshold and just "reacting". I would use positive reinforcement for staing calm and also do some lunge circles/changes of direction. If he starts pulling or getting excited, move farther away and move his feet to change the focus.

I’m not an expert and don’t own a horse but some horses don’t get ridden like companion horses so I’m assuming you don’t have to everyday, but some horses gain weight easier so it depends on your horse. However if you want to train your horses in a particular discipline then you should ride them regularly.

@@lillycorrell4838 feral horses generally still live to the hearty age of 25-30 years (I don't know where you would've heard of them nearly living till 8, most horses still aren't mature in the head let alone body when they are at this age still). Domestic horses age hasn't been boosted all that much, but they generally live a more happy and healthy lifestyle. They sadly just have to live with the pain unless it's a cause for infections.

@@CHLOCHLOLP There are a few studies around depending on the environment they live in. Mustangs for the US only seem to live 15-20, where as the feral horses I live with (Brumbies) are closer to 20-30 years in the larger grass plains (Not as long obviously in the arid/dessert). If there is a drought or bush fires this number obviously changes drastically but definitely not only a 7-8 year lifespan though. ;)
