3:49 "And a dog made of curry that's also a sailor" this is a reference to the fact that curry is considered a "navy dish" in Japan with curry having first been introduced to the Japanese navy and navy units having their own special curry recipes, some which get sold in packets you can buy over there. The most well known of these is called the "Yokosuka Navy Curry" with curry being served every Friday in the navy. I can imagine that reference will be lost with a lot of foreigners in that food game.

I still wish Yo-Kai Watch had any presence in the west on the Switch. Even just a port of the first game that's been localized already for 3DS would be exciting for me, and I'd certainly buy it. I played the demo of the first game on the 3DS and I enjoyed it, and a KZfaq channel I watched started playing it as well, so I wanted to buy it for sure. I played the first and second games, and I really enjoyed them, and I thought they were a good variant of the time-tested Pokemon formula with a unique battle system and world, and it actually cared about its story which is something Pokemon hasn't done in a while. If Yo-Kai Watch 4 never gets a western release I wouldn't be distraught, I never even played the third game since I didn't really care for major 3DS releases at that point, but I'd love to try the series again on the Switch. Eh, at least the Ni No Kuni games have been released on the Switch over here in the west since I'm pretty sure those games have actually been pretty successful over here.

I am Japanese. I am surprised that Buddy Mission is only sold in Japan. This game is very well received. It has also won awards. I hope Shin-chan game will get overseas. You can experience the summer vacation of a Japanese child (although there are dinosaurs in it). I really loved the series before this game, Boku Natsu. It reminds me of my childhood and makes me feel nostalgic.

I want that Shin Chan game so bad! If they’d get the funimation cast to dub it and it drew interest to the franchise again maybe they’d finally dub more episodes. I love that anime.

My sister would be so happy to get Yokai Watch 4. She loves the games and waits impatiently for every new manga. I hope, the game makes its way over here.

Just wanna correct you on the art of Buddy Mission Bond, Yusuke Murata is the artist for One Punch Man in ShonenJump but that is NOT the original One Punch Man. It's basically a retelling/remake of the One Punch Man Webcomic which is written and drawn by ONE. ONE is the creator of OPM, Yusuke Murata only does the art for the shonen jump version while ONE works on the story.

It is strange how some of these never get out of Japan. They look quite good!

Yooooo! Thank you for the shout out! Also! The Japan-exclusive game I currently want a localization for is Baroque: Original. It's a first-person dungeon crawler/mystery dungeon game set in a creepy, post-apocalyptic world of demons and monsters. The version on switch is a port of the PS1/Sega Saturn version with new features and bonus content. There's actually a remake for PS2 and Wii that was localized, but the original version has much better atmosphere.

For those who are visual novel fans, there’s a pretty good one in the Japanese eshop called ATRI -My Dear Moments-. Idk why it didn’t release in the states, but you can change the language to English in game and play through it just fine!

Buddy Mission Bond is free this week for NSO players in Japan. It is the only Nintendo co-developed first party published game for the switch stuck in japan. And it drives me crazy because I collect first party a Nintendo co-developed switch games.

I don’t care how badly it runs, I’ve been wanting Dragon Quest Heroes 1 and 2 to come West for what feels like forever. (It was a launch title in Japan.) I know I could get them on PS4. I _have_ those versions. But the Switch port has some extras including one of my favourite characters. >_

Still ticked off that LEVEL-5 never localized Yo-Kai Watch 4 like they said they would. At the very least they could’ve localized the Yo-Kai Watch 1 port since, yknow, Yo-Kai Watch 1 already exists in English. YKW is one of my favorite series and it downright sucks that LEVEL-5 just gave up on it. North American office closing or not, it still sucks.

I LOVE the yo kai watch franchise. the fact that the new games havent been released in the west makles me sad.

In Spain we usually get most of the Shin-Chan games, the show was pretty popular here (and I guess still is), let's hope we also get this one, I've always wanted to get into the Boku no Natsuyasumi series.

Yo-kai Watch 4 not coming out in the west is such a bummer to me. I'm a huge fan of the other games. They're so fun and silly but have excellent gameplay and super cute Yo-kai to collect.

I think tabe-o-ja looks adorable and think that one, metal dogs and megaton Musashi should get localized because I think they would be enjoyed by alot of people.

Not having Yokay Watch is incredibly sad. This open world japanese suburban cell-shaded world looks better or at least more interesting setting-wise than most RPGs on the plattform. It also looks so much better than Pokemon and I always saw it as a big AAA high budget title so it's incredible that we still don't got it and maybe never will.

i’ve played yo kai watch 4 and it’s dlc without knowing a word of japanese and had a great time. it’s a really fun game that should be localized, but i doubt it’ll happen. if you are interested in the game don’t worry about the language barrier, since it’s still easy to have fun with the game. and if you have trouble there is a youtuber named AbdallahSmash026 who played the game in its entirety with a translator on stream. i hope that this game gets more love and is localized!

I knew Yokai Watch 4 would be in this list. I wanted to try the game out if it ever came out over here, but I'm guessing Level-5 just didn't have the confidence it'll sell well.

First off; I've never played Yo-Kai Watch. But after doing a little digging, I found one thing that really seems to hurt Yo-Kai Watch without much of an upside; The amount of recolors. Most monster-catching games barely have any recolors in them, with the most popular of all, Pokémon, not having a single Pokémon have a recolor of itself, save for the shiny system, but even the games recognize them as the same Pokémon mechanically, just in a much rarer color. Now you may argue that regional variants are recolors of Pokémon, but even then that's not exactly correct. Every regional variant of a Pokémon has some very obvious differences from the original, even though they're another version of the same Pokémon. From what I've seen in Yo-Kai Watch, there are multiple Yo-Kai that are just flat-out recolors of each other, with virtually no differences save for different color schemes- although they may be mechanically different. Another factor, at least in my opinion, is the cultural differences. Ever since Generation 1, Pokémon has taken inspiration from multiple cultures, as well as real-life animals. Every Pokémon can be understood at face value by young kids, and older players can appreciate the myriad inspirations that go into the identities of these pocket monsters. In Yo-Kai Watch, this is not really the case. The series wears its' heavy Japanese cultural influence on its' sleeve, which ends up being a detriment to those not familiar with the culture (ie most of the West). If you want to know more about the inspiration behind a particular Yo-Kai, you need to actually know about the yōkai it's based on- which is most likely not gonna be the case if you're going into the series blind. These are just a few examples, maybe they're nitpicks, maybe they're not (again, I haven't played the games). I also couldn't tell you if there were any mechanical issues with the games, as that's even more subjective. Still, that's my two cents on the topic.

I played Yokai Watch 4 despite not knowing Japanese since I liked 2&3. It was fairly good in my opinion. Tabegami look cute. Metal Dogs looks fun. Hopefully DQX offline releases over seas.

I played through the entirety of Buddy Mission Bond just like you said, with my phone held up to the screen and Google Translate on at all times. Translation wasn’t always perfect and having a basic grip on the Japanese writing system certainly helped, but I had so much fun with the game. I wish Nintendo would localise it so other people can play it! (And so I can replay it without getting a sore arm)

There's a fully completed fan-translation of the Yo-Kai Watch 1 remake

The game I expected you to mention never was. I was surprised when you even talked about another game in the same series and then moved on. This launch title that never came to the west is Dragon Quest Heroes 1 and 2. I sold my copy on the PS4 fully expecting this to be localized as all the work was already done for it. We already have a western release with full English translation on the PS3/PS4/Steam platforms and all they had to do was apply it to the Switch version and release it here. Not sure why they never did, lol.

Yo-Kai Watch 4++ has also been introduced in China for the Tencent Nintendo Switch. I just bought it today and can't wait to play it when it gets shipped to America!

Buddy Mission Bond was also released in Chinese and Korean. I guess visual novels just are more popular in East Asia compared to the rest of the world. Also there're games that are HUGE in Japan but will probably never see a western release like Momotaro Dentetsu (桃太郎電鉄) which is like a Monopoly game played on a Japanese railway map.

I will be so excited if Dragon Quest X offline gets released in the west! A lot of people are complaining about the chibi stylization, but I think its charming!

Would love to see a version of this featuring Japanese region games in English (is. unreleased in the West or not available in a physical version like Chrono Cross Radical Dreamers Edition).

I know its available on other platforms, but I am desperate for Trails of Cold Steel 1 and 2 to be released for Switch in the west. With the release of the Crossbell arc later in the year (and the collection of all four Cold Steel games for the Switch in Japan), I would love for NIS and Exceed to finally come to an agreement to be able to give Switch users Cold Steel 1 and 2. Also localise the SMT games that are available on NSO in Japan.

All these games look interesting, but I would love to see the Shin Chan game come to the west with a dub including the Funimation cast! I really wish the re-release of Baroque from Sting would get a western release. The remake for the Wii/PS2 got an English translation/dub through Atlus before the Sega merger and it was hands down my all time favorite game on the Wii. When I heard Sting was re-releasing the original game on the Switch, I was hoping a western release was soon to follow. I still have my hopes up, but with Atlus tied to Sega and the game itself being a super niche gothic horror rogue RPG, I don’t know who else would release it. I bought it on the Japanese eshop because I love the series that much, but it’s hard to play without knowing Japanese

I played yo-kai watch 4 and it's a really great game, even if you don't speak Japanese it's mostly fine because the game shows you were to go next most of the time. The American version of Shin-chan is stripped what makes it charming, you gotta watch it subbed... I hope the game comes out in Europe, the Spain dub of Shin-chan is really good, they rocked the inticreates games. Another fun game you missed out is ninja box from bandai namco, it's kind of a Frankenstein of things they're ripping off like Minecraft, yokai watch and Fortnite and it's feels like it was rushed out, but it's fun!

Tabe-o-Ja is really good but expensive if you want more than just the basic pack. It’s a download in a box game for those collectors who may think it comes with a cart. You can’t find it in the eshop either. Regarding the monsters you do get some in game (I’m still playing through) but i believe it can only level up so far compared to scanning one.
