This is a follow-up review of using the Voigtlander 50mm APO f/2 lens. I've had it for 7 months now and it's by far my most used lens in that time period. I really like this lens.

ive been using manual lenses on my Sony and i've had great results. For anything moving, I just put it on F/5.6-F/8, pre-focus with zone-focusing and make small adjustments as needed. Even moving subjects are totally acceptable that way. I had autofocus fail on me, even with an high-end body (A7RV) and high-end glass (GM), so I have to check, check doublecheck my photos anyway. Manual focus changed my photography. It elevated my photography. I've yet to buy a native mount manual focus, I currently use OM lenses (for analog OM cameras), but the voighlanders are definitely on my wishlist. There is no 28mm lens available, sadly. I currently use a 21mm F/2 and 28mm F/3.5

Voigtlander 58mm f1.4 for Nikon F on my D700 🤤 love love love the combo! Also adapted ro my Z6 for when i really struggle with nailing tack focus by enlarging a tiny area like you're doing.

I share your thoughts 100%. I use the Voigtlander 50mm f1,2 Nokton for a long time. I now also have the Tamron 35-150mm as a travel lens.

I hope Voigtlander makes a 28mm f/2 or something similar for the E-mount soon. I love the focal length, but unfortunately there is only a handful of mirrorless lenses that are optically great (Fuji 18mm f/1.4 and Leicas).

Have the Konica Hexacon series. They got nice colors, especially good at sunset and sunrises. In japan they call them "Zeiss of Japan". It is important to get a great mint lense, since I have noticed that there are som difference even on the same version. Maybe some had been in a repair. At the test I have made between them the sharpest are the 135mm f2.5, that lense have blown me away. But be aware not all used are great, better buy them in a mint condition and they grow when you can give them more exposures, they do need light to perform, but omy they do perform. Use the right camera for it, that can preciesly focus. A trick I use when it is hard to focus, go in full wide open aperture and focus and then step down to the desired DOF. You will get really good focus by this method.

When I got my first Fuji camera I got the Voigtlander 40mm f1.4 CM for it and it was so much fun to use. Eventually I traded that for two Olympus OM lenses the 50mm f1.4 and the 28mm f2 and used them with the Metabones speed-booster. Still have these lenses and still use them, even thought I've since bought a few nice Fuji lenses with AF. I'm now thinking about switching to the new announced Nikon Zf and the App Panther 50mm f2.

I own a few manual lenses. The Samyang (Rokinon) 12 mm f2 was the first for the A6500 and i loved it so much. Now i own a A7R3 and some Voigtländer lenses: 10mm hyper wide heliar, 15mm heliar, 21mm color scopar, 21mm nocton and the 35mm apo lanthar. All lenses are great with own charme and very small for streetfotografie. You don't have much work with focus until 21mm. With f7.1 and 3 mtr. focusdistance you can shoot the hole day and all in the street is getting sharp. I love it !

Thank you very much Jay for the very nice video. I enjoy shooting AND with my manual vintage lenses on my DSLR cameras. I just took a photo with my Meyer-Optik Gorlitz 100mm f/2.8. Surely I will get the 2 Voightlanders 35mm and 50mm. I already have the Voightlander 58mmf/1.4 Nokton SLIIs , the Zeiss Planar 50mm f/1.4 ZF2 and the Zeiss Distagon 35mm f/1.4 f/2 ZF2, which are all F mount. I am still into DSLR. It is hard for me to give up my D850, but time is coming to add a mirrorless to my other companions.

Gary Marshall hello, I am such an admirer of your photos in Flickr and I am glad to see you writing in this You tube channel. You have inspired me so much the past 2-3 days so that I am looking to get the SL2-S and mount , If I may, my manual primes and zoom lenses that I already have , as I can not afford the wonderful Leica lenses that I see you having. I am wondering whether I can attach my Zeiss Planar, Voigtlander and nikon mount and Canon lenses that I have on a SL2-S body. This is a decisive factor for me in getting this camera. The cameras that I have are Nikon D700, Nikon D500, Nikon D850 and Canon 5DIV. Now I am about to choose my first mirrorless camera and I am now torn between the SL2 the SL2-S or the eagerly awaited Z8. I finally decided NOT to have the Z9 because I am not at all into video and because I hear that Focus trucking is very complicated if one wants to be successful plus its very big size and heavy ...So until yesterday I was about to wait and see if Nikon will announce the eagerly awaiting Z8 , BUT after I SAW in flickr the Fantastic photos of yours , today I visited the Leica Store in Stuttgart and handled the Q2, the SL2 and the SL2-S. Beautiful cameras , though also a bit heavy..........What I am a bit concerned is that the Low light capability. Low light is important to me, so is fast auto focus because I am always tracing my Big MACAW Flying birds and my other cats and dogs plus I generally love photographing birds and animals I do not know what is the best decision to take. So I will be thankful to hear your advise coming from your experience. Surely I will have the Vοigtlander 35 and 50mm that JAY is talking about whatever my final decision .....Gary , I apologise for the long message. and I thank you again for the exquisite photographs that you share for us all. Regards Flora

@@FLORAMORAITINI Thank you very much for the kind comments. I sold my SL2S and bought an used Nikon Z7. I still shoot my Z6 and is good to about 10,000-12,800 ISO. The SL2S is also a good low light camera. . Most of my Zeiss primes and Voigtlander primes are M mount so I got a M to L adapter. Novoflex was my adapter of choice. The SL2S is a great camera, but I decided to get the Leica Q2M and sold the SL2S. I couldn’t justify owning both. I can’t comment on Leica L lens as I shoot non Leica prime manual focus. Check out the Leica Forum for feedback. Also, though I own several Voigtlander primes I think the Zeiss m mount primes are better. I own the 21,25,35,and 50. I also own the Zeiss Otus 100/1.4 and the Voigtlander 75/1.5. The Nikon D850 is one of Nikon’s best SLR’s ever made, but I went mirrorless because of the focus peaking and magnification features for my prime manual focus use. I also can’t comment on the AF capabilities of the SL2S. Good luck in you future purchases!

@@FLORAMORAITINI I need to update you on my gear. I am back with the Leica SL2S-Reporter Edition and I mostly use Zeiss ZM glass now. The 21mm/28 Biogon, 25mm/2.8 Biogon, 35mm/1.4 DIstagon (My fav btw) and the 50mm/2 Planar. I am going to add the Voigtlander 50mm/2 APO M mount soon. I do have the Leica SL 24-90mm for when I only want to carry one lens. But my love are the Zeiss primes. I use a Novoflex adapter for the M mount to L body. You have to use the aperture ring on the lens as the EXIF data is not transmitted to the camera. I sold ALL of my NIKON gear including the Z bodies and all the AF lenses. The color from the Leica is unmatched. Have a good day!

@arsulaksono881
@arsulaksono881 Жыл бұрын
@@JayMacroPhotos it is as predicted, it has the voigtlander quality and character, sharp. But since it is a superwide angle lens , most likely you will take objects more than 2m, the focusing ring becomes useless, just put it somewhere between 2m and infinity, f/5.6 or s, then everything is sharp. this is something I dont like from this lens. I better use my Iphone instead, lol... lolll :D

I liked your shots and I agree this is a fantastic lens. Initially I was also concerned that I would not be able to focus fast enough, then realized that 1. cca. 80% of my subjects are either still, or not moving that fast, 2. another 15% of the remaining of my subjects are cooperative and can be focused on. Up to 5% of my subjects this lens is indeed not optimal for I have to admit, but come on that is why I have some pretty fast AF lens for, however, for the 95% it is a pleasure to use and the results are just stunning.

It's probably the sharpest 50mm lens for Sony E mount. However the bokeh is in my opinion not the very best. So it's probably a lens for "technical pictures". For pictures with a nice "vintage look" I would recommend the 50mm f1.2 Nokton instead.

If you as me only uses any Lenses shorter or longer than 50mm, then I can very highly recommend the Voigtländer APO-LANTHAR 35mm 2.0 Aspherical and the Voigtländer Macro APO-LANTHAR 65mm 2.0 ! For me a 50mm Lens are more or Less useless on a full frame Camera, but it can be good on a APSC or MTF camera. For many years the 50mm was a kit Lens you nearly never could avoid when you got a new Camera, most people parked the 50mm and never used it.
