Per Vertex I’d say the 4-barreled shotgun in bulletstorm is the best. It sends everything flying and it sends out a BFG round when overheated. And we can’t forget the MW2 model 1887...

Slifer117 Well, I would choose the basic „revolver“ shotgun any time over that „belt fed monstrosity“ :-) That thing burns through the ammo like there is no tomorrow and the damage per shot is considerably lower, then the damage of the revolver shotgun. Also the accuracy is awful! It just eats the whole ammo in seconds and has no effect. The reload time is also literally deadly! The Saiga is the best shotgun in Metro though!

My favorite weapon in any Half Life game even the remake Black Mesa, the SPAS 12 is incredible, even at mid range you can deal a lots of damage, less than close range but just to say who the range is very good.

And why both games are immensely fun to play. Makes me sad Monolith didn't get more time to refine Blood 2 before release.

To this day, the original FEAR is still in my top 5 FPS games. I seriously hate what they did with 2 and 3, they didn't even feel the same from gameplay let alone horror.

I will say this for FEAR 2, for a shooter it was quite good and there are some good creepy parts. But compared with the first, doesn't feel nearly as unique as the first does in gameplay or horror elements.

Not a FPS, but goddamn the Gears of War Ultimate Edition Gnasher shotgun is insane, it's maybe not the best choice in the campaign, but it always has and always will be the go-to weapon to use in the MP for Gears Of War series.

I was hoping that the KF2 shotguns would make an appearance, there isn't anything as satisfying as shooting someone point blank with a boomstick and seeing them fly across the scenery

its as though games assume the shotgun is loaded with birdshot... i looked at the map size of a familiar map, nuketown, and found with some research that buckshot would kill someone from window to window in nuketown, and from one end of the map to the other with a slug.

@@nisonatic As someone who not only owns real weapons but owns several shotguns, I can confirm that when he said "In reality they're far deadlier and have a devastating stopping power even at higher ranges than what we are used from ingame-shotguns." he was correct. Shotguns in videogames have laughably exaggerated spread whereas in real life regular buckshot tends to have 1 inch of spread for each yard traveled. This means at 5 yards the spread of the shot will be in about a 5" group, at 10 yards about a 10" spread, 18 yards 18" spread, etc. In most videogames, shotguns magically lose all of their power after 20 or so yards whereas in real life they (with buckshot) are effective at up to 40 or 50 yards (maybe a bit further if you use flight-controlled buckshot).

Played the first and second F.E.A.R with my dad. We've already replayed them so many times that I lost count.

Fear and Extraction point are amazing but Perseus mandate is pretty rough around the edges.

Vampires Crypt fear 2 shotgun ain't too bad. Doesn't have the pizazz of the 1st one but it still pretty badass. Especially when used in slow motion mode. Although 1 weapon I have the most fun with is the HV penetrator, hilarious when you pin a replica soldiers head to the wall and his body is stuck there twitching

My favorite part was how the enemy would fly back a good 10 feet once you emptied one load of buckshot into his chest.I miss rag-dolls. Nowadays they go for these smooth death animations, but don't get me wrong, the animations are smooth, but there was nothing better than watching a replica fly across the room once you emptied a good load into his ribs. With death animations it doesn't feel like you contributed to the way the enemy died. Would it make sense if you shot a man with a good 12 pellets of buckshot and he did nothing but face-plant into the ground? No, it wouldn't. The best experience might not be the most realistic, but it sure as hell is fun. My favorite memory's were of shooting buckshot into a man and watching him fly across the room only to hit into a wall, or go through a big glass window and fall. Here's a game, every time I say buckshot, take a shot. And see if you can read the rest. P.S I know I didn't say buckshot that much so try to get a drink that makes you drunk the quickest.

Ivan Malek Akimbo pistols were super underrated. The death animation when you landed that perfect headshot is fucking unreal.

FEAR was such a great game, the combat felt perfect, all the weapons were great and it had that constant creepy atmosphere. Only real downside was a lack of enemy variety. FEAR 2 was still fun but the shotgun felt pretty weak, and for some reason it had an automatic one that was still single shot?

Think you're misunderstanding what I'm saying, matey - some lists are there as if they are going through the motions in their selections, but as a long time follower of gggman (not to kiss ass), I can tell that the selection of weapons fit in with the gameplay, and there was some discretion amongst games. The flak cannon being a particularly strange, but not invalid example, seeing as it's not really a shotgun, but it's a joy to use, once you grab it.

Useless against enemies perhaps, but still very effective against the player (usually). Enemies can hit you much easier with shotguns and it is even worse when you can also be staggered when hit by shotguns.

Then the Quake shotgun is for you. It's your default weapon, and pretty accurate even when shooting across the map.

It's great except when you added incendiary to it as I kept setting myself on fire. I like to be close up with my shotgun blasts though that just might be me.

Doom did a bunch of cool shit. But the key with doom is that it was one of the first games to do all the cool shit it did. It's not an insult to say that some following games might have done something better, since they had to build off of doom. Hell, Blood's sawed-off is basically the doom shotty and super shotty thrown together with new mechanics (like selective fire) enabled by the build engine, which took cues from the doom engine in its construction. I think the spread is looser, but don't quote me on that one, been a while since I've played Blood. Blood would have not been made in quite the way we know it if doom hadn't paved the way. Saying Id made the best shotgun in the era is in no way denigrated by someone coming along later, learning from what made doom's shotgun so satisfying, and building upon it further.
