Cant wait to try my DWS in the Colorado snow. I bought them last year after watching a bunch of reviews, yours included. They haven't disappointed. Winter was mild in St Louis but wet. CO should be a good test for snow conditions. As for the dry, I'm not racing my WRX to the grocery store so that hasn't been an issue, and it handles fine on the highways. (but there was a noticeable difference in lateral grip when I switched from my stock Dunlop summer tires). Thanks for the review. I'll update once it starts dumping snow.

@@lluda44 I was just thinking about this on my drive back from Keystone today. Thanks for the reminder. 100% recommend the Extreme contact DWS tires if you’re not looking for dedicated snow tires. I’ve been driving in snowstorms recently, back and forth from Denver to the main Colorado resorts and haven’t had any issues with traction. I’ve gone up and down Loveland pass (when open) with hard packed and fresh snow with no issues. They do well in the wet too. Overall I’m impressed. I’ll probably buy these again when its time for a new set, unless they come out with an updated version. (My AWD may help with the acceleration but theres no denying the braking capabilities). Hope that helps.

Jonathan, I’m quite enjoying your tire reviews, and marveling at your snow driving abilities! I’ve been a fan of the Michelin Pilot A/S 3+ on a Suby 02 WRX Wagon with sti springs, koni adjustable struts, whiteline adjustable sway bars front and rear, strut tower bars f/r, polyurethane bushings, -1, -1.5 camber f/r, Group N strut tower mounts. This suspension rewards quick response tires, and can feel a bit unsafe with tires that lag in response or wallow in the least. Also tires that follow rain grooves are nonstarters. So, how does the A/S 4 handling compare with the A/S 3+? Looks like snow handling has improved- which is why I buy these tires for winter mountain trips. But also drive about 3 months of the year on these in SoCal - so mostly dry handling is important too? Usually run Mich Pilot Super Sports the balance of the year as a summer/fun tire. Thanks for any input/insight on this! To me the A/S 3+ tires have been very competent- kind of like an 8/10 super sport in the dry. Riding a bit better and a bit quieter. Snow is on the good side of marginal. They track straight, but braking in snow or ice is iffy. Cornering in snow is reasonable.

@ScottoGrotto ... +1. Agreed.... The Michelin A/S 3+ in snow,,,, braking sucks.. White knuckle even. .. Re: '21 Subi Outback Touring XT ... Run the A/S 3+ on several cars as a 3-season tire. . Here in Vail, CO winter snow tires are a must.

@@tyrereviews Nice to know.... :-) Here in New England, I know a lot of folks with Subarus. I drive an Outback, and a couple of family members have the Legacy; would be real nice to see what would be best for these vehicles in an All Season & All Weather tire. The only ones I immediately know who go with a dedicated Winter Tire are in Northern Maine & New Hampshire, what we jokingly refer to as The Great White North. ;-)

Again, great and valuable content. I understand how the timed lap works and see the importance of the test. However, most of the time we don’t go sideways down the streets, so is it possible to have a test where going sideways isn’t an option, bit turns still need to be taken ?
@tyrereviews
@tyrereviews 3 жыл бұрын
The actual test laps are usually a little less sideways than the camera stuff, but for winter testing how the tyre behaves around the limit of grip is important too :) Also, in these conditions and tyres to not go sideways at all you'd have to drive below the limit of grip by a margin, so all the tyres would merge

I agree with Rob151. Johnathan does a wonderful job of testing with tires. Unmatched by anyone IMO. I bought the Michelin Pilot All Season’s in September of 2020 on my 2015 Lexus IS350 F-Sport. Since then, have put 7,000 miles on the tires. Dry traction, unrivaled. Wet/snow traction, unrivaled. Overall I give the tire 3 out of 5 stars (and I’m a Michelin snob.) Here’s why. The road noise of these tires is absolutely terrible! It sounds like I’m running 38” Micky Thompson Super Swampers. I’m not sure if I just got a bad batch of tires, but I’m telling you, it’s bad. My wife and I only run Michelin tires on our vehicles, so I’m greatly shocked. I’ve verified that it’s not my wheel bearings. It’s all road surfaces, any condition. If anyone has this same experience, please comment. Anyways, love your work, Johnathan!

I'm someone who bought the crossclimate plus late last year (the twos weren't available in the size tire my car takes) , I'm currently extremely happy I did given the down right arctic conditions here in the states. I'm driving my fwd hatchback past big 4wd trucks and suvs that have gone off the road. They feel so good on ice and snow compared to past all seasons I have owned. The most dangerous part of my commute has been getting to and from my car because my shoes have way less grip. They would have sold me on getting proper winter tires at some point if they made sense for the climate here. Unfortunately given the wildly varying weather we have a dedicated winter tire doesn't really work because we can have balmy 70 degree weather and 10 inches of snow days later. The cross climates also feel squidgy in warm weather. I've not had any issues with grip but you can feel the softer rubber and the tread blocks deforming.
@stevenvandenbosch6068
@stevenvandenbosch6068 3 жыл бұрын
@@mgkleym That's why I run them in winter only. I only need some winter capability, like you, but I like HP summer tyres for when it's hot. When the CC+ thread gets low, the squirming will lessen, and you can use them up in summer aswell. Though I must add, even more than half worn the snow capability is still good. CC2 seems to be less of a summer tyre than CC+ so not sure it's the tyre for me, maybe AS4+ can be.
