It is currently snowing outside so doesn’t feel like spring at the moment! But it will be back! I have tried some new annotations in this video including where I focus - what do you think? 👍

My favorite setup for flowers in spring are my D810, 70-200 F4 lens, and a set of inexpensive extension tubes. I usually use a 36 mm extension tube and it allows me to get amazing closeups. It cuts the minimum focus distance dramatically. A set of extension tubes is usually less than $50 for three lengths and they allow macro photography with any lens.

I’m just starting back into photography after a long layoff - my last “good” camera was a Mamiya SLR, ‘70s vintage. Other than the switch to “digital”, the biggest change for me is the wealth of knowledge and inspiration available on the internet. Nigel, you’re at the top of my list and I look forward every week to your videos! Once the snow melts here in Pennsylvania, I’ll look for opportunities to apply these tips.

A timely video Nigel, and nice shots. I also like showing the focus points - the surprising one was the shot that had the focus on the mountains while the foreground was also sharp. I imagine that's because it was a wide angle and a small aperture. The cut to the studio with Pebbles seemed like she was about to take over-cute. Do you ever use something to hold the flowers steady when there's a breeze, like a Plamp that gently holds the stem without damage? I plan to go to Shenandoah Nation Park (in Virginia) in a few weeks for some of the wildflowers and was thinking about that purchase, since the Skyline Drive (the main road through the park) is at a pretty good elevation and there's usually some wind.

@@NigelDanson - I've tried to but the trees always come out in silhouette if I expose for the sky, or the sky's blown out if I expose for the trees. I've exposed for the sky and tried to correct the trees exposure in Photoshop, but they somehow look a bit meh. Practise, practise I guess 😊
