There are Velcro strips you can buy at Home Depot. One version is continuous and can be used as a wrap, cut where ever it needs cutting. The other version is more like shorter ties that can be strung together to form a tether. In the case of tying cabling to spots that are kind of "out there", the piece approach may be better, allowing you to tailor what and how you tie. In the case of simply looking to clean up a messy looking longitudinal area, a wrap might look better. These Velcro straps can be had in different colours, albeit not a huge selection.

Can’t believe no tactile transducers(buttkickers) were mentioned. The 4 corner custom setup I made using simhub and $200 usd worth of parts increased immersion and consistency by just as much as ffb and load cell pedals. It was like adding a whole other dimension to my setup.

I was simracing for like 5 or 6 years before I finally bought an H-pattern shifter, and I regret going that long without one. Fun and immersion went through the roof. That and loadcell pedals were a BIG upgrade. The H-Pattern totally transformed RaceRoom for me, drifting in the Audi 92 DTM car became so enjoyable once I had a reason to use the clutch.

I've been meaning to get a shifter for so long! Now I've finally got the basics crammed into my tiny gaming space, and I'm happy with them, I think it's time to buy one, I avoid driving H pattern with paddles, just doesn't feel right. A good load cell brake pedal is a game changer, doesn't need to cost a fortune either (CSL Elite V2's would be a good place to start)

I would add to that a bass shaker. It doesn't have to be big or expensive. For 100$ you can get something decent including a small amp. On top of adding a lot to immersion, it can even help with car control by simulating wheel slip. But mostly it adds a ton to the immersion. To feel the engin vibrating, the rumble strips in the corners and the thump of a gear change is indescribable. Now, whenever I use a rig with no shakers, it is like going back to a wheel with no FFB.

Small DIY tip for the keyboard holder: if you have a sim rig your office chair is probably just standing around. Put it next to your rig and you essentially have a free keyboard tray.

I suggest to add to that list some venting/fan solutions to fight sweating issues (and optionally some cooling seat cover for back). Also specific to you - fix with second bolt your mouse pad .. simply by adding corner bracket on side of the shifter profile.

I'm using our old home theater around my cockpit for sound it's a game changer, you can hear your tires better and it feels more natural. And the subwoofer emulates exhaust sound really good. I recommend searching online for a 2nd hand one if you're able to use optical cable on your set up for uncompressed surround sound. (Samsung HT-Z325)

Hey OC, thanks for recommending reasonable/reasonably affordable gear here. It's easy for creators to say, "yeah you need a $5k DD base, wheel and pedal setup, a 6dof full motion rig, a sound system designed for a cinema" and so on. One thing I recommend, while not the perfect replacement for a keyboard and mouse combo, is the Logitech K400. If you're willing to do with a keyboard that doesn't have the 10-key pad, it substitutes a trackpad on a compact wireless device. Because I have limited space and use a VR setup, it's a great solution to save me from m feeling around for the mouse! I use a magic, space aged material called 'velcro' to stick it to the top of my wheel base!

I bought a keyboard and mice tray. It wasn't practical, always akwardly placed. I "upgraded" to the 10$ ikea TV unit table. So much more convenient. And with the money saved I bought a "bartop" carpet thingy with a cool car illustration (a mustang) for like 20$. It's still is much cheaper than any off the shelf keyboard tray and works much better. I also use it to hold my wheel, a gamepad for casual gaming (not sim related) and a bunch of other stuff, so cheaper and more Is a massive win in my book

VR tends to be very subjective. I actually started out with VR before going to screens lol
@smallbutdeadly931

After going with VR I can't go back. I'd say the main complaint for most people is comfort and FOV, the latter being something that can't be helped for now. It is only uncomfortable if you don't have a headset that has no proper solution for keeping it on your head, like the stock Quest 2 headstrap. I got a 3rd party strap from Studioform Creative for my HP Reverb G2 that goes on top of the stock headstrap and makes it essentially act like a halo strap. You won't believe how much that helps reduce sweating.

@rubbishnubbish motion sickness goes away after a few days. You will gain what is called your "VR LEGS" I've been using VR since 2016 for flight simulation and air combat, and only recently started with iRacing. Could never go back to screens. Took me 2 or 3 days to gain my vr legs again with racing because it's a little different than flying. But each time you start to feel weird just take a break. A few days later I was doing 1 hour races no problem.

Amazing! I have none of the items for my rig as mentioned. I have a TV on top of a small desk, so no movement from steering wheel, cables hang off the power extension freely, the sound is just some very old PC speakers, no keyboard/mouse needed, when I do, its on the floor/on top of PC. Important things to me was the Gamepod racing rig (defunct company now), Fanatect GT DD Pro steering wheel with Clubsport inverted pedal set.

So with the T3PM pedals that come with the T248, I built my own custom pedal box to mount them to. It's hollow on three sides, so the sub for my sound system for my PC is tilted on it's side so it projects the sound in the pedal box instead of the concrete floor and carpet of my 7th story apartment lol Gives really nice feel to the pedals with the engine noise :D

my favorite purchase outside of the rig itself has been dedicated sim racing shoes. i went with puma speedcats and got elastic no-tie laces so they slip on and off. but water shoes, or any other low profile and flexible shoes will do the trick. OR dedicated sim socks with proper grippy bottoms.

Noice to see you still firing up Pcars2 sometimes, Oscar. And I agree on the Shifter, especially with the SHH's low price. As for my KB.....it's 20-21 years old by now and still PS/2, I found investing in HoTases, rudder pedals, wherls, pedals shifter and s trackir more productive. And I still use my original production run MX518, which I got to replace my MX500 , which I passed on to s friend, who passed it on to his sister who is afaik still using it.

Only like 0.04s of low fps, in a field 32 cars, P15 starting positionon Bathurst in the Thunderstorm. I had pretty good smoothness before, but not 100% or 99.9999% smooth before. Start lights, yellow flags, white flags, red flags and other things also simply by installing the razer iracing plugin. I dunno, but I think my razer turret that is plugged into my ps5, that is natively connected to my xbox while at the same time connected to my pc, that is also a lap desk and also a flags display is worth it. No need to disconnect and switch anything. It does ps5 xbox and pc without changing a thing.

I don't have a god tier sim rig- i have a foldable NLR cockpit with a DIY single monitor stand, which also holds my keyboard and acts as a shelf for my phone, drink, etc. Can confirm- every little bit of QOL upgrade helps me get into the sim more. If you're starting out and find that you dread attaching the wheel to your desk, getting into position, etc .. and find yourself driving less because of it- invest in your rig. The easier you make getting on the road, the more you'll do it... And this usually leads to a happier life.

7:00 Be careful with headphones. even at seeming low volumes you can cause ear damage. aim for at least 35% lower volume then normal gaming. the duration and constant roar of the engine cause cause hearing damage. this is no joke. play as low volume as possible. or else you will end up with permanent turbo whine. it is not fun.

imo buy a samsung g9 and if you want an even more immersive experience get vr too. Not every game has vr, but just using the 1 monitor will save you a lot of pain.

That keyboard stand/attachment is a must have if you do this on PC, I do both PC and console so that attachment doubles as a snack stand when on my PS5 🤣 I'm an OCD kinda guy so I have tons of cable ties on hand as well as some under desk wire routers, both work wonders on keeping things neat. Inland for the win on the keyboard too 😊 Great list Oscar, all of it is so important to allow for a less distracting Sim experience. Now go and slay those exams!!

Absolutely. As someone using a wheelstand with an office chair, buying some locking caster wheels might be the biggest game changer yet lol.
