You must grow or buy these 7 pumpkins for Fall including Halloween and Thanksgiving. Some of these pumpkins are great for making sweet pumpkin dishes such as pies and bread while other are great for making savory dishes such as soup and pasta. I list all of the 7 pumpkins and then taste test them as well to find out which ones are the best!

Great video! Nice reminder that there is more to pumpkins than just your typical jack o lantern

I grew jarrahdale for the first time this past season. And it’s all I’m going to grow next year! By far my favorite 🥰

My favorite too! Even though it’s considered a ‘savory’ type it made the best pumpkin pie I’ve ever tasted!

WOW - what a GREAT video about pumpkins!!! I have always heard that those pumpkins sold for Halloween are NOT for eating. Great information and YOU impress me assimilating into the USA culture so beautifully!!! GOD BLESS!
@leechowning2712

The main reason we advise against eating ones sold for decoration is because those are handled differently during shipping, and should be washed... a lot... before cutting into them if you plan on baking or cooking them. Also, if carved, do not leave them exposed to the weather because they will spoil more quickly.

My pumpkins are my pride and joy every year. But we grow them all of the seasons of the year, it is not a seasonal crop for us. Can't wait to hear your take and advice! My only big problem is managing flies.

That's awesome, I start growing them in March myself, we eat them all summer long, in fall and in winter. They keep really well for months after harvest.

I see so many videos suggesting plants based on harvest time, yield, growing conditions etc, so it's really nice to see videos actually comparing the taste and usability instead. Too many people are growing food they don't actually want to or know how to cook, so thank you :)

Thank you for sharing this! I’m always a bit leery when choosing which pumpkins to cook with. I always end up buying a butternut squash instead. I feel more confident now in choosing which pumpkins fit my dishes. Thank you!

I grow a lot of jack-o-lantern every year and for the first time ever I'm doing big max and jack be little along with some corn. Can't wait to see how this turns out. Also, fun fact: sugarbelle pumpkins are great for kids if they're starting out carving pumpkins for halloween.

Uncle, try growing Japanese Kabocha pumpkin. Galt isn't that far from San Francisco. They grow great out here in the cool weather. They should grow even better where you have warmer weather.

For blander / less sweet types of pumpkin try this: peel the raw flesh, cut it in ~1" cubes and boil them in whole milk sweetened with honey and flavored with vanilla and/or cinnamon for 30 minutes or so (until the cubes get as soft as you like). It's called Moldavian pumpkin soup and you can eat it with a spoon or blend it into a thick delicious "smoothie".

Thank you Jag! As usual you come through. I was looking to find out what type of pumpkin I had when I opened and found a bunch of strings very similar to spaghetti squash. I removed the strings and stir fried them with veggies and a light sauce. IT WAS DELICIOUS!! So now I'll be saving and planting some of these seeds. Do you have any suggestions on the best way to go about doing so? THANKS AGAIN! You are a wealth of knowledge! 🎉🎉🎉

Thank you for this helpful review! I’m wanting to expand the varieties of pumpkin I grow this year and might try a couple of “new” French types (can’t spell or pronounce the names 😆). I’m in the Pacific Northwest and wonder if the Long Island Cheese variety will work here.

Thanks! I was just about to start cooking our pumpkins we grew this summer. For getting the seeds out, for the wheel-shaped ones if you take a knife and cut along the long edge, it makes it a lot easier to pull them out. How long/hot did you choose to roast them for?
@DaisyCreekFarms
@DaisyCreekFarms Жыл бұрын
Will try, i find it hard to cut these pumpkins then to take the seeds out lol. I roasted at 350F for one hour. I had 3 halves of big pumpkins in the oven placed upside down.
