I enjoyed this video and it is 100% true but I think the title is wrong, incorrect, it should actually be entitled as "7 reasons why you should choose an Egyptian Mau" as those 7 attributes are what make them such a very special breed and why I love them so much!

As an owner of silver Egyptian Mau, I can attest that this video is 100% true. They indeed are very curious and mine always tries to get outside to explore, we even had to buy a collar with gps just in case. They also like to climb as high as possible in the house especially on curtains - be ready for this. When we got her she was indeed quite lonely especially at nights, so we adopted for her another girl cat from a shelter, and as the video says - they hate changes, so it took as about 2 weeks for her to accept another pet on her territory but since then they play with each other all the night when we sleep. She indeed likes to be active and play a lot, so get ready that they will be always demanding your attention and asking you to play - and they can play for hours. She is indeed very affectionate and prefers to be around and sleep with someone nearby. We don't have kids but our relatives visit us with theirs sometimes and the cat is very happy to play with them, because I said this cat can play for hours. If you want to get this cat you will absolutely love it!

We have two. They don't have a " turn off "button when it comes to food, but man, they are so majestic looking when they are resting under the sun shine rays that filter into the house! They also have several vocalizing sounds I never thought cat makes. Very smart cats indeed. They manipulate your emotion into giving them food with their varied facial acts.

I had never heard of the Egyptian Mau cat before I adopted my kitten, Daisy, from the local animal shelter. I have had cats since I was about 12-13 years old but I noticed the day I adopted her that she was different. She loves me to kiss her a lot, and cuddle up on my lap! I’ve only had one lap cat, so I was shocked when she curled up in my lap on day 1. This cat is such an awesome cat!

Yes.... Very vocal. Very vocal lol. She also knows what time she is supposed to eat. If that time is changed, the world is thrown off balance. She has bonded with me but we got another cat that she definitely has bonded with she adores the dog. It is definitely important for her to have a social group at home. I actually take her to the vet with either her sister cat or dog so she doesn't get lonely lol

So the cat has 7 normal cat behaviors and for this reason you should not own it, or any cat for that matter if you cannot stand a smart, active, housecat, with separation anxiety, who's vocal, is averse to change and like companions.

After adopting our cat, once adopted by a swedish family from Dubai, I just recently realized that he is something else than a domestic shorthair. Probably a Arabian mau, the similarities are striking. He can roam free outside, a very calm and safe area with no cars close by. And he mostly keeps close to the house and our yard/forest. A delightful cat, but boy he's active and curious! Loyal and very loving. 💕

So true, my Egyptian cat never want to separate with me, stick to my leg even when I walk. Calling out loud when he is hungry, and can't be alone. He calls all night when his sister stays in vet for desex, whole night he keeps waking up and walk around calling for her, each time last for half hour.

Interesting. You have essentially described a bengal cat. Then again the Egyptian Mau is used to breed with wild asian leopard cats. Maybe that is part of the personality of bengals.

This is not a fair reflection of this amazing Breed … no matter what pet you buy … you need to understand the needs of the species as well as their capabilities If a Mau is destroying anything … it’s because their Owner is not meeting their needs and they are anxious Yes they are very social … active … and love interacting with their people … they will play fetch with you and return the toy to be thrown again … they will also play catch with you … walk to heel on or off a lead along with a mass of other achievements … they are more intelligent than a dog and easier train … they can be clicker trained with the only reward being a cuddle and told how clever they are Yes they should be maintained as indoor … with safe outdoor space … they are not to stupid to survive outside alone … quite the opposite … but why would you want to leave your highly intelligent companion outside alone where they are at risk from theft … their pelts are highly sought after by the fashion industry to make fur coats and fashion accessories … not forgetting the risk of disease from unowned cats left to roam … or being hit by a car which is the main cause of death in cats under 5 years of age Owning a pet … any pet … requires an investment of affection … time … and the ability to meet the needs of the species … if you’re not prepared to make that investment … don’t get a pet … particularly a cat … and especially an Egyptian Mau they are warm affectionate intelligent beings who will love you unreservedly to their last breath

My Egyptian Mau is 4 years old and this video is not entirely true. I give him the freedom to wander outside, we live on a micro farm surrounded by houses and roads, it s populated area and he doesn't like to go beyond the boundary walls. He has good recall, when I call him he runs back home. He thrives outside and climbs all the big trees and hunts, and comes back home to rest and spend time with me. Also he doesn't do well with other cats, he prefers humans

I have two silver siblings with all the faults described (tongue in cheek) herein. Clapton is always with me and I predict my demise will be the result of tripping over him. Layla spends hours a day staring at me and talking. The two are inseparable from each other and me. Every cat I have owned tried to get out and these two are no different, but Clapton is an artist at it. He is always back at the front door in minutes. Layla, however, ..stayed under my neighbor’s porch for three days last time until I came and got her, all within sight of her home. They have a huge vocabulary that is easily understood, and you will undoubtedly start talking back. Clapton goes belly up to animal visitors and will sleep with anyone who leaves their bedroom door open. Layla loves to play fetch and both come when I whistle. She sleeps around my feet, but Clapton likes to plop on my face in the middle of the night and purr until I pay attention. I got them to provide companionship to my aging Himalayan , and both glommed onto him instantly, and cared for him as long as he lived(21yrs). I have owned Himmies (Himalayans), Abbies (Abyssinians), Russian Blues, Tabbies, Bengals and a herd of muts, all loved. The Maus are simply different, more family than feline.

Every cat wants to go outside. Why would an Egyptian Mau have a higher chance of running away and not returning? My kitty is outdoor/indoor and she has never walked off our property, and always returns when called.

We had ours for 5 months and she ended up popping the screen out of the window and got out and ran in the woods right behind the apartments we lived at and we thought she was gone forever but we left the window open with the screen half off and she came back. Was so relieved

@@selenam4509 I'm sorry, it's always scary! Our kitty would wander off sometimes for a short amount of time when we let her outside during the first year or 2. Now at the age of 7 she chooses to stay indoors or if she goes outside she is always within a few metres of the door. I think if they are 'used' to being outdoors they are less likely to get overly excited and run off.

@A M Sorry to hear. I know it's a controversial topic. I've edited the comment because it came off a bit harsh. I've also lost a beloved kitty due to outside forces. I still strongly believe the benefits outweigh the negatives, although I'm just more careful now and have made adjustments to lessen risks.

I live on the 37th floor of a building and my rescue cat is an Egyptian Mau. He is very energetic and loves the zoomies with all of his toys. He cannot go outside (for obvious reasons), but is very happy indoors. They are indeed very needy and get very attached, luckily I work from home but also he is very attached to our tabby, so it is a perfect combo.

a stray egyptian mau cat has been coming for about a year now, i had no idea she was an egyptian mau cat until yesterday, she is not like the other cats in respect to size, she is huge even her paws are big. Since December a stray bombay cat has been coming too and he has become extremely affectionate and close, she stopped coming for a few weeks and when she came back again she saw him in the kitchen, her vocal commands sounded like a murdered baby, i think they like each other, she has been coming back more often to check if he is here and checks the kitchen for him. I wonder what their cross breed is gonna look like hahaa

So far this video is pretty accurate. My oldest Cat (age 3) is an Egyptian Mau ans the outside part i can agree @_@ We had a chat with our vet about her going outside and all so she came around our neighborhood to see how safe it would be. We live on a quiet street with very few cars going by with like 4 other outside/indoor cat. She gave us a GPS, bell and a few other stuff for her anf told us to wait till she was at least 3 years old to let her out oj her own (after we go woth her severak times of course). Its been 3 months now and everytimw i come home from work, i see her either chill in our yard with another cat or waiting by the door with her sister (whos a Bengal and indoor cat). So far Yuki has enjoyed this change. She comes home several times during the day to either say hi or eat and comesby 5-6pm and stays for the night and chill like any indoor cat. I wouodnt recommend doing this usually cause even i have a fear of smt bad happening to her and all the risks (first night was hell), but after the consultations with the vets and some research, im glad shes happy. We will keep her inside during winter tho

The narrator said the same thing in various ways in the first 3 warnings. Then, in the next 3 also said variations if the same warning. Too much repetition. Could have done with just 2 comments on why this cat needs attention, stimulation, and company. I'm adding an emphasis that ALL cats should never be allowed to roam free.

I can't get behind the idea that the outdoors is not safe for any cat breed. Unless you live next to a freeway or in the middle of a busy city, cats are usually smart and adaptable enough to be able to brave the environment outside your home. And I believe that if you truly love cats, you will only get one if you can provide an outdoors emvironment for them. Because that's where cats are the happiest, because that's what their species really needs.
