Not sure whether you want to be a Buddhist? Here are some reasons to be one. A part two to my last video "7 Wrong Reasons To Become A Buddhist" since many people requested that I elaborate on these reasons.
Hello Sentient Beans! Sorry I'm late! This video took longer to prepare and edit. Also, apologies about the differences in lighting. It was shot at around dusk, so there are drastic color changes.
So like I said in the video, this channel will take YOUR questions and run with it. You the viewer gets to control the direction of this channel. Ask away Sentient Beans!

I want to practice Buddhism because I want to fix the bad parts of me. I have a tendency to be self-destructive. By that I mean always being my own worst enemy and not believing myself, stressing myself out, and so on.
@youngski249
@youngski249 9 жыл бұрын
It sounds like Buddhism might really help you out with that, remember that Buddha was just a teacher, and the only thing that is going to make a real big impact on you is you. You control what you are and what you think. So as long as you stick to the practices and really try to be happy and stop your suffering, after a while(and it might take a long while) I think you really might see improvement. And as someone who's had depression and social anxiety for 4 years of my life, I think i'm pretty confident when I say it helped me in a positive way.

xYoungskito Thanks for the encouragement. I realized that it's going to take a lot of practice to master the Buddhist way. It's very promising because even a little application of the philosophy has helped me.

1. Buddha is not a creator-god! Buddhism is NOT a religion in the western sence of the word! 2. Remember: "Do not judge or you will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the same measure you use, it will be measured to you.", you dumbass! ;)

Why does the Dalai Lama desire the freedom of Tibet if the goal is to extinguish desire? The ultimate ethic is love. Good and evil exist so free choice could exist. Free choice exists so Love could exist. The opposite of Love is Fear. To extinguish love is to promote fear.

When raised Buddhist did you go to religious training classes or did you just learn from your parents and family? Do you think you would be a Buddhist if you weren't raised in the religion? I was raised in a Catholic background and was forced to go to "catechism" that is training in the religion. I am not Catholic, but had it forced on me throughout my growing up years. I like the concepts that I've learned about Buddhism in a secular way. Particularly enjoyed how you use Buddhism in your daily life, such as the bread story with your Mom.

+bryan furr LOL - you're an idiot. The only reason for your belief system is where and when you were born. If you were born in an area where the predominant religion is Buddhism - you would be saying something entirely different. The only reason you believe what you believe is because its what your parents believed, or because you were in a christian environment Try doing some research into your Judeo-christian origins and see that is was all ripped off from ZoroAstrianism and a little greek mythology ..... and .... wait for it...... BUDDHISM !! I'd tell you to learn before speaking - but if you were a learned person - you wouldnt be religious. Oh... and Buddhism isnt a religion - its an Eastern Philosophy. The Buddha was a man who achieved enlightenment - not a supposed deity. Try getting an educatio.... oh forget it you wont. Its too easy for you sheeple to just blindly follow what you are told when young.

Hi, this is the first video of yours I've seen and I just want to say thank you. I have been Buddhist all my life, I grew up going to a Buddhist Temple in Los Angeles, and as you've seen, since you're making these videos, a lot more people are looking to Buddhism for some kind of guidance. But it seems like a lot of them like it for the aesthetics or the fact that it ties with Asian cultures, or simply as a cop out to explain one segment of their personality without actually learning the values. (I'm going to watch your "7 Wrong Reasons" after I finish) But thank you again for ACTUALLY teaching people what makes Buddhism awesome

Thank you for these videos. You're helping so many people on their inner journey(s). I have been studying/practicing Buddhism for about 6 years; most of that time I've been quite ill. What you touched on about happiness is so important. For me, Buddhism has been a lot about facing my weaknesses and learning to appreciate life for what it is. It hasn't always been a happy journey, but very rewarding as you said. What I've learned is that the future can't always be relied upon and that our own introspection and discovery is a better foundation for our lives. Recently, I spoke to a friend on the phone who reminded me that even the positive experiences have to be let go of, and that actually they can be more difficult to let go of than the negative. What a wake up call...

This video was great and very informative. I've always found certain aspects of Christianity confusing to some of my beliefs so to find that there is a belief system based on using a philosophical guideline to achieve enlightenment and what that journey entales was very exciting. I felt like so much of it coincides on how I'm already trying to live my life. Is there any chance you could recommend some more books I could read about Buddhism I'm not sure exactly where to start? I have some questions , not that I expect you to answer any or all of them and there coming from someone who doesn't know alot about Buddhism so bear with me. What are the beliefs regarding marriage and relationships? Is there a definitive belief of the afterlife and what it entales? Who are the most notable figures in Buddhism both past and present? Are there beliefs or explanations of supernatural things such as ghosts etc in Buddhism? What are the biggest misconceptions people have about Buddhism? I know your last videos came out about 2 months ago but I really hope you do some more videos.

I'm 16 and I love the idea of buddhism. I'm really intersted. I want to become enlightened and become better as a person over all. my ideas and beliefs are kinda similar. being self less as much as possible. trying to stay away from greed. I need more research. I'm not sure about the rituals. I like the purpose they have. I'm unsure if the rituals you described, would be something I would participate in yet. can you make a video on meditation? that'll be really awesome to learn about.

Ideas of meditation is plain and simple. All you need to do is relaxing on the mat, breathing in and out slowly with words, put.....tow....it means awareness. No music is need it unless you want it too. Meditation is all about focusing. Your mind needs to be there 100% and should not be distracted by noise, aches, or thinking something else other than focusing. Start meditating 10 to 15 minutes are great.

Really appreciating these videos. I have never considered myself a religious person, I grew up without religion and I've always had people telling me religion is the root of all evil (basically lol). But I think buddhism really speaks to me. I try to understand the world as much as I can and always reflect on what I do... For example, I've always thought communist people had to be bad people but as I studied it, I found out that just because others tell me it's bad it doesn't have to be. Just like with everything else. You can find a balance and find inner peace. Thank you soo so much for these videos of yours, I love the vibe to it. It really helps understanding, I just recently realised religion might be something for me

You're welcome. If you have any additional questions or would like more recommendations, feel free to ask. Either way, the website I gave you is a great resource. It offers many English translations of Suttas (discourses of the Buddha), which were translated by monastics. It also offers many essays, books, etc. by well-known Buddhist monks. However, you should know that this website emphasizes the Pali Cannon, which is the earliest surviving record of the Buddha's teachings. FYI, the Pali cannon is the staple of Theravada Buddhism. Theravada means "Doctrine of the Elders”. Theravada Buddhism, while being the oldest sect still in existence, it is different from the more well-known sects of Buddhism, e.g. Tibetan Buddhism, and Zen Buddhism. The reason I mention this is because I am not sure which aspect of Buddhism has appealed to you, and I do not want to point you in the direction of Theravada if you are interested in say Tibetan Buddhism.

+Nate Gamer Being in the army isn't against any concept in Buddhism. The Buddha never said that being a soldier is wrong. When as a soldier you go to war, it's not that you kill, it's that you defend your country.

I'm kind of speculating on hearsay; I really have no idea, but I've heard Zen traditions teach there is no soul? So, does this mean they don't believe in reincarnation? Does this mean they go around killing bugs? ;) On a similar note, I've heard teachings that say things that are not either known to be fact or personally experienced should be abandoned, and this has led less people to observe reincarnation? Silly but serious and a little confused. Trying to learn what I can. Thanx for your videos, *****!

There is no soul. We believe in REBIRTH, not reincarnation. Reincarnation with a soul is pouring water from one glass into another. Rebirth without a soul is lighting a candle with another candle.

I’m not sure whether to be atheist or Buddhist. There are benefits of both. Benefits of being atheist is that you don’t have to worry about going to a church or temple every week, you don’t have to worry about religious dress, and you don’t have to worry about what you’re doing is against your religion. The benefits of Buddhism are a more peaceful life, a better mindset, and healthier eating (being vegan/vegetarian). I may do a “test” of Buddhism for a week or two to see if I like it. If I do, I’ll stick with it.

Random Person If you follow Buddhism you also have to be celibate and completely ascetic if you want to reach Nirvana. It's a very hard path.

You're kinda in active but I hope you reply to this comment. I'm 14 years old and being Buddhist kinda interests me. I know the main gist or concept of it. I plane to join the army and I'm wondering if that's against any concept of being Buddhist

I am in no way an expert on Buddhism, I am also interested in starting to practice it. however, to my knowledge it is against Buddhism to have an occupation that directly or indirectly harms other, like the army does. If I am wrong anyone can feel free to correct me on this (:

You probably were never a Christian - just a member of the Catholic, Mormon, Jehovah Witness or another kind of cult. True Christianity encourages persons to ask questions and reason trough Scripture - Torah (Old Testament) + New Testament. “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you." _Matthew_ 7:7 The Bible have answers. Have you sought them out by yourself or did you believe what your church told you? :)
