Enjoyed this talk as it’s probably one of my favorites! Truly enjoyed with beautiful weather, a cold beer and a toasty cigar! More importantly I’ve been struggling with obtaining desires and image but this discussion made me really reflect on what is needed more in my life with God. God bless!

Hebrews12:5-15 tells us Jesus is with us in the suffering so although whatever chastisement he may place on maybe find comfort in knowing he’s near and 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 tells us if we surrender to his will we are strongest. Question: I have been reading a lot about Stoicism, and watching videos. Do non-Christian philosophies on behavior go against growing in holiness, and can they also help?

Hi Thomas, great question. A longer answer is needed then this comment box will provide, but no, as long as that which is learned is guided by Faith it can be very helpful. We are endowed with reason by God to search for truth and better order our lives. We can take all that is good in stoicism but it is with the "Why" provided by Catholicism that allows us to bring it to a higher level of understanding and lived experience for ourselves and our neighbors.
