In this video, I discuss different strategies on how one can simplify their investing and investment portfolio. The 7 strategies in this video will make your investing more organized, manageable and effective in addition to enhancing the investor's understanding and confidence in managing one's wealth
Here are the 7 simplification strategies:
1. Remove emotions and biases in investing by gaining knowledge, following a systematic process and using an investing checklist
2. Operate as a portfolio rather than looking at assets separately by doing a core-opportunity split, asset allocation and regular rebalancing
3. Automate your investments suing SIPs, standing instructions, SWPs and STPs
4. Deploy your lumpsum using a defined strategy covering short and long duration actions
5. Avoid chasing best performers and instead choose 4-5 schemes with different investing styles for long-term investment
6. Simplify your stock selection by holding 10-15 high-quality stocks for ease of monitoring with a clear rationable for buying and selling a stock
7. Track, review, and clean your portfolio regularly using a portfolio tracker

These were not one or two lines but 3-4 paragraphs incl. cross-referencing with other videos. I was surprised how many & how deep some of the points were. He had listed over a 150 points and categorized each as stock picking, portfolio, behavioural etc.

What an informative video as always.. ❤ed it and thank you🙏... I'm also trying to simplify my portfolio by learning everyday.. For the time being, I've bifurcate my portfolio (only equity) into 'Core' and 'Satellite'. • The Core contains a Sensex index, a Midcap150 index, a Nasdaq100 index and a Smallcap (active) fund. • The Satellite contains a Midcap and a Smallcap active fund. I hope, in forthcoming days, I'll be able to understand the journey in a better way.

If one invests 25% amount in 1 Small Cap Fund, 25% amount in 1 Mid Cap Fund and 50% in direct stocks wherein most of them are large cap stocks like Asian Paints, Tech Mahindra, HUL, Pidilite, etc. - is it a good strategy for long term investment considering its just 2 mutual funds?
@pradeep2kedar
@pradeep2kedar 6 ай бұрын
Yes. I do the same. But! Since u r actually looking at the market every now and then, u feel like u made a wrong choice. When the stocks around u are doubled and ur large caps are giving 5% or 10%. It will make u sell and try some luck on others. I suggest u divide it further. Add 25% in flexi cap.keep just 25 with u. If if if only in the market from last 4,5 years. Happy investing.

Can you do a video on Flexi Cap vs multi cap.... because multi Cap funds are confusing
@shankarnath
@shankarnath 5 ай бұрын
There is only one key difference. Flexicap allows the fund manager to pick stocks across market caps with no restrictions. Multicaps require that the fund manager keeps 25% of the assets in large, mid and smallcap each while having flexibility to allocate the remaining 25% in whichever cap he/she pleases. For more info, read www.motilaloswalmf.com/investor-education/blog/distinguish-between-multi-cap-flexi-cap-funds/

Q1. Shankar can I take flexicap instead of large cap in my core portfolio as flexicap has ~70% in large companies ? if yes then many flexicap have few allocation in international so should I take a separate international fund for mf portfolio? Q2. What do you think *after 10 yrs* will the market give >15% return ? Q3. Will inflation go down in future ?
@shankarnath
@shankarnath 6 ай бұрын
Hello: 1. I have not come across a hierarchy of funds so can't generalize if a flexicap is better than large cap or if an international fund fits in 2. Post 10 years .. stock market returns will be more than 15% in some years and it will be lagging in other years. Personally, I do my long-term simulations assuming 12% returns from equity instruments 3. Apologies, I haven't done any study on inflation
