How These Microscopic Diamonds Are Going to Shape the Future
gizmodo.com/how...
“No doubt you're already familiar with the many ways graphene promises to save us all, but there's another (so-called) miracle material out there vying for your attention-and it's sparkly, to boot. Say hello to the latest and greatest substance to kick science's ass straight into the future: the nanodiamond.”
Molecular-sized fluorescent nanodiamonds
www.nature.com/...
“Here, we show that isolated diamond nanoparticles as small as 1.6 nm, comprising only ~400 carbon atoms, are capable of housing stable photoluminescent colour centres.”

there are diamond thermal pastes, heat sinks are usually for very very small chips because large diamonds are still expensive and they usually only make flat or fancy shaped ones, not heatsink fins

To clarify- diamonds don't have a Melting point as they sublime, but their sublimation point is higher than expected. Also all bonds are just shared electrons, but diamonds have shorter lengths which mean they are harder to break and a lattice structure makes them very resistant to bond breakages.

Only problem with graphene, its currently very hard to produce. I went to a presentation on it at my college and apparently the way that it is currently produced, basically growing it by depositing carbon on a copper sheet, disturbed the structure of the material and therefore most of its sought after qualities. So until they figure that out, it can't be mass produced.

Wait, diamonds are not electrically conductive but is the best thermally conductive solid known to man? Well ever since the early days of thermal paste, some manufacturers have tried mixing grinded metals to their thermal paste to increase the thermal conductivity. But it also has a bad side effect of being electrically conductive so if you over apply it on your heatsink, you risk it touching the contacts on the mobo and frying your board. Now, we can grind artifically created diamonds to mix them in with thermal paste to increase thermal conductivity without the risk of frying your shiny new mobo and cpu.

Industrial diamonds can be natural, too. Most industrial diamonds are synthetic; but most natural diamonds are industrial. It's just there is more industrial demand for diamonds than the amount of diamonds that are mined, so synthetic diamonds are needed to make up the shortfall. What I think you mean is gemstone-quality diamonds, which are usually natural but don't necessarily have to be.

+no0dles130 by planting a tree. and using solar power to grow it. other than that, it takes more energy to extract carbon from the air than burning fossil fuels makes. in short, its better to use whatever you are using as a power source for the process to replace existing coal plants, than to first burn coal for power and then use more of the alternate power to separate the oxygen and carbon from the co2. or at worst use coal power plant to power the process that removes coal from the air ^^.
