I didn't "skip" it for video games, but when my first child was born through emergency c-section, and my wife had to spend several days in the hospital afterward, I packed up my ps2 and took it with me so I could both stay there with her *and* not miss out on my gaming.

Skipped prom. A night alone of chill gaming far away from social interaction is something I'd take any day. It's not even something that I couldn't have gone to as I had options - but - I'm an introvert at heart. Social interaction is draining.

there have been several times when I have lied and told my family that my boss told my I had to come in to work that day because of someone else was sick or on vacation or something, just to avoid family get togethers, only to have work ACTUALLY call me to see if I could come in. To which I would lie and say I was at the very family get together that I lied to get out of in the first place!

I realized I need to cut back on games when I was on a field trip and we were driving over a bridge and I turned over to my friend and said “damn these water graphics look great”.

I dropped out of highschool just to play video games. Not even professionally. It's not as bad as it sounds though, it was hick-town high school with text books literally 3 times as old as I was... Seeing as I am now developing my own video game and starting a promising career doing so, I'd say it all worked out!

Number 7 for me especially. I bought The Witcher 3 a couple months ago, then Monster Hunter World game out, then I got Nioh for my birthday and then I got the Uncharted remaster. Currently about half way done with Uncharted 3, then I'll go back to TW3, since I'm about half way done with it. I'm kinda glad there aren't any new games I want coming out soon.

That last one.... I have a Library of unfinished games I loved, but left for another lol.

"Important" family gathering... is any family gathering really important?

I once skipped a day of college to go for a job interview which I then missed because I was up all night playing the Witcher 3.

I barely scraped through senior year of high school because of a six day a week WoW raiding schedule. I then failed out of college for the same reason, and a total lack of willpower to pull me away from games. XD When I no-life a game when it's fresh out, I've been known to just stay up for 30+ hours straight multiple days back-to-back and ignore sleep (because really, once you're awake for so long, you stop feeling tired). Then there was the Cataclysm WoW release, where I stayed up for 88 hours straight to get to 80 in the group of realm firsts. I can't count the number of family dinners I've ditched to play whatever game it is at the time, or to make a scheduled RP that seems to always fall in the middle of the dinner hour, but I can recall one time my sister and my nephews came over for a family visit, and I had a WoW raid the same night. Knowing I wouldn't be able to make an excuse to miss the family gathering, I just took my laptop downstairs and raided through the entire event instead, occasionally nodding my head and making as though I was actually interested in anything the family was doing. Multitasking saves the day!

How about when your playing a game but get invited to join your friends on another game but are having to much fun to quit

To calculate Rob's entire adult life, being generous by letting him retire at 50 and letting him live til at least 80 and ignoring climate change, it adds up to almost 207 thousand hours of gaming.

I find that 1 & 2 generally go together. As soon as the kids are in bed I'm on the sofa, controller in hand ready to play some Red Dead Redemption 2. Next thing you know it's 3am and you forgot to take that ready meal out of the microwave and worst still the beer you got out of the fridge still has the cap on and nothing in the last 7 hours has been achieved except a lot of deaths and a poor alligator skin!

now I've never had to use this, but if somebody asks me to their wedding or other tedious events that have nothing to do with me, i tell them that I've got a policy. i say "I've got a policy that i don't go to weddings" or whatever's specific for the situation, when really the policy is: i don't do things i don't want to do

The worst part about number 7 is when you have gaming friends to. Maybe one really wants to play ranked in rainbow six siege (and once you start it's easy to get invested) maybe another really wants to go beat all the Easter eggs in zombies chronicles on black ops 3 while another one wants everyone to squad up and play battle field one/four. All of these sound like fun options but all you want to do is finish getting the platinum in blood borne. Thank you appear offline button.

Important events I missed for Video Games? MY ACTUAL HIGHSCHOOL GRADUATION. Was too busy finding Kimeramon on the 99th floor of Tera Domain in Digimon World 2. He was not there. Autopilot. Tried 10 more times. Still not there. Tried until 8pm (my graduation was at 3pm by the way and I was in my attire already at 12noon). Found him finally and tried to catch him with Toy Planes, DIDN'T GET HIM.

I spent an entire day playing Fallout New Vegas on survival, making sure the Courier was sufficiently fed and hydrated, nevermind my stomach is grumbling because it's been hours since I ate.

I missed christmas with my two kids and a horrible trip to my partners parents house so I could play assassin's creed Unity, A decision I regret to this day, not for missing Xmas with my kids but the choice of game I deserted them for.

I'm guilty of every single 1 of them but I'm fine with it. I have 2 say in my defence that the 2 or 3 friends I still have always make me feel good whenever I see them in like 10 to 15 times a year and start telling me how their life is going. Especially when I hear about relationships and how they complain I'm like "Yes I don't waste my time in relations and no bad feelings". I still feel bad for not completing horizon DLC yet 😭😭😭😭😭😭

I hate seeing friends on my friends list play new releases when I have already brought it but I'm busy working and progressing on my old titles:( so sad not to mention I have a hard time crossing games I need off my list of games that I want in absolute perfect condition I'm a collector as well and I love getting them in perfect condition it's what I'm passionate about sometimes I even feel people judge me for it hell I don't care I mean everybody's different right we all have our motives and that's fine right? I sacrificed my honesty for video games I have told hundreds of lies just to play my favourite games such as The Division, Destiny 2 and AC Origins

I try to avoid that last one by making it a rule not to start a new game until I've at least reached one of the endings in the game I'm currently on. Kinda has the same result, though, in that I've got this huge backlog of games I haven't even gotten around to *starting.*

I will miss out on christmas at my parents place this year for games. I plan to finish Persona 5 finally, Hitman 1 and 2 and a couple of other gems in my 2 weeks of holiday. To my defense, we life in different countries and I just can't sit there for 1 week, without proper internet and the next airport 1.5 hours away, when some family members getting wasted and throw up in the kitchen sink.

I have a French and Irish oral to study for, but that unplayed copy of FFXV is looking REALLY inviting right now...

It's all worth it when you get properly immersed in the game's universe, nice and comfortable with no one around and a nice hot drink ^-^

I've skipped my own birthday to play Jak 3 for the PS2 and Sly Cooper 1, 2 and 3. Spyro 2 Ripto's Rage and Spyro Year of the Dragon was my go to game for the PS1 growing up. Now with the remake of the first 3 Spyro games for the PS4, when I get them, I'll have given up everything on this list for the next month upon getting the game AND system.

Wow, almost all of these apply to me. The most drastic would have to be when my grades notably began to fall as I got more into WoW right after launch, and when I almost got angry at my friend for picking a release date for his wedding...but then the release date got moved and he was spared (and the wedding was awesome). mine was back during medical school and the witcher 3 had just come out , it was the 7th "final" year exams and i had 2 exams left , i ended up skipping both and playing through novigrad ... i have to say i do regret it a bit , but tbh i was also very depressed due to the massive pressure and wouldn't have gotten out of bed that day anyway so it's not entirely the video game's fault but still ..

A lot of these ring true for me, but I obtained the ability to suppress these for the love of of my wife and the joy spending my finite time with her can bring... However, I was quick to inform her that the new God of War will be coming out in a few weeks, so I'm looking to arrange holiday from work and social proclivities that comes with marriage to enjoy this game to completion since our union. i remember me and a friend of mine playing minecraft like our lives depended on it. we played all night until the sun rose in our window, he looked at me and asked: Breakfast? I think we have some leftovers from last night. so we shovel that down in five minutes and pick up where we left off. Those were the days man.... it turned out to be a monstrous building that we were really happy with, but when we woke up the next morning and looked at it we realized: Our lack of sleep was really detremental to our already poor taste in aesthetics. We are still proud of it and I still have the world saved on usb in an actual little safe :3

I actually gave up almost a full combo of this list for one game, basically all in one weekend. It was Fall 2017. My first semester at University, I got my hands on Persona 5. And I did not leave my dorm for close to 2 months. So I gave up Food and Sleep right there cause JRPG. Gave up Relationships when my friends texted me asking to go out and party, and I said no, because games. Gave up Education because I never left my dorm to attend class or open my computer to do homework. Gave up Family Events cause the last weekend of October, my cousin was getting married, but I said I was at University and couldn’t make it. This was the same weekend my friends asked me out. And I, most sadly of all, gave up all my other games cause I was only playing P5.

I would've passed my driving test a lot sooner, but my actual driving lessons were sacrificed for Gran Turismo 2. Something that still, years later crops up in conversation now.
