I have been watching people for over 2 years waiting to move to Hawaii and honestly yes some videos have been helpful in their own way but just missing the point every time. I learnt more in this video than I have in the last 2-3 years. How you gave us the visual aspect on the personalities of the actual Islands! Fantastic. I learnt so much in a very enjoyable way. You sir are a credit to the islands so respectful in being so honest and getting your point across without upsetting anyone. Job we’ll done. My wife and I watched the video I watched it again today. We currently live in Thailand were we plan to leave we have two small children and want a new start in life and feel Maui is the right place for us. When we lived in Maui, we spend time on every island. However, we never find as much magic as we found on Maui. And the Big Island is FILLED with magic.

I have no clue how you can compare Maui to the mainland. Maui is distinctively unlike any place on the mainland with it uniquely Hawaiian island vibe. It is an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean with its own volcano. People here love the Hawaiian culture and we live aloha everyday. We are definitely not related to the mainland. We are Hawaiian.

My personal experience in working is that a lot of people from the mainland move here but a lot of them don’t stay because it’s expensive.

Great video, insightful in way that truly is useful to a prospective buyer, not the usual "this is a great location for brunch yadda yadda yadda!!!" We're looking to possibly move to Hawaii and this has given some great pointers. We will surely give you guys a call when we are over towards the end of this summer/fall to visit to view properties.

I experienced a very similar thing about the culture in Vermont. Most people came for law school and left very quickly. I started doing things locally and not sticking with the school community and am still here nine years later. Locals like the dark robust maple syrup.

You can keep Maui. And California. I love Kawai very much like Oregon the farming community. Only one small road that goes 3/4 of the way around so the tours are stuck on that all day. Many of the surf finals are held there and many of the beaches have severe undertow. It keeps away the riffraff

Anyone that owned a leasehold in the Lahaina fires just literally lost everything that would be the biggest risk in a leasehold would be a natural disaster and having to start all over again even if the landowner decided to lease the complex would have to agree to build again, leasehold would be worth it if you had 250k to lose and it not hurt u financially

You said you got the tourist attitude when on Kauai, yet I didn't get that at all I felt very welcome. I did however get that vibe strongly on Maui.

Would Like to know if anyone can own there home and land there free an clear if they want to live there.

There's a movement among ethnic Hawaiians to encourage each other not to sell property to non-Hawaiians. I really don't want to piss anyone off. Is there any part of the islands that native Hawaiians have sort-of given up on? I mean is there a locale in the Islands where a haole could purchase a residence and not upset anyone? Maybe 2000' up the Kona coast or something like that?
