Edit: There's a heated debate about whether reggaeton originated in Panamá or Puerto Rico. I don't want any problems when I return to either country and some of you crazy people see me on the street lol, so that part will be removed from the video.

Great video. I'm Puerto Rican and this is my top ten recommendations when going to PR: 1. Avoid hurricane season mainly starts around July, August, September, October and even late November. 2. Rent a car to explore out of San Juan, go on foot, bike or public transportation if in old San Juan and traffic tourists areas. 3. Puerto Rico is very safe, it's ok to explore out side tourists areas and see more of the island and locals are very friendly and willing to help. Common sense is not to walk at night or explore at night because it's very dark and not so safe in places like La Perla at night. 4. Don't leave value things unattended in parked cars, like electronics, money or jewelry. 5. It's true in the video, the beaches in Condado are not safe due to Strong currents. Best beaches are in Fajardo more safe to swim in, the calmer and still the water looks the safer it is. 6. Do take cash if going exploring outside of San Juan, many central and small businesses locals don't use credit cards, they use more cash and street food places use mainly cash. The malls have cards systems and modern shops in tourists areas or restaurants use cards. 7. Mosquitos and Rain is a main issue in PR. Sometimes the rain comes and goes, it rarely stays raining all day unless there is a tropical storm going on at the time. 8. The island can be very pricey and expensive but that's mainly in tourists or metro crowded areas. Head out to the more local and isolated areas like the center of the island and it can be way cheaper and better quality of authentic food, stays will also be way more affordable. 9. After midnight you have the right of way to run a red light intersections. Look at this law first before doing it. 10. Be kind, have patience and be courteous. Puerto Ricans are very friendly welcoming people and they do not go well with rudeness and dislike being rushed, specially in the more calm local areas. Metro areas can be a bit different and more rushed due to tourists and crowds but people from the country side have a chill vibe and they appreciate calming vibes.

Agree with all your point, but #10 is the most important. Like we say, "con calma y nos amanecemos". La Perla used to be forbidden but now is touristic. Still, if someone don't behave they get beat up and when they leave they bitch about the ppl been mean in the Island.

Dude, the old San Juan area didn't suffer much damage or any city or town in particular during Maria, our houses and buildings are built with concrete, we don't use cardboard and plywood like in the US, we have a lot of flooding and water damage along with massive landslides.

when the hurricane happened so many people i knew lost their houses, my school gym lost its roof and chain fence walls and the stadium near my house was completely destroyed so i do think my city suffered damage LMAO
@RealengoPrimordialDemon
@RealengoPrimordialDemon 2 жыл бұрын
@@thatweirdodaniel a hurricane like Maria would erase any town or city it hits in the US, Hurricane Michael was a cat 4 and it erased the little town it hits. Almost nothing remained but the only concrete house in the whole place, now imagine something like a EF5 tornado hitting you for hours. Houses here suffered damage cause they were mostly old badly constructed wood houses and most only got roof damage.

My God! Sly dude bro! I loved this video also,you get right to the point and explain everything very clearly and everything you say it’s true. Now, if you took a drive to the center of the island up towards my home town of “Jayuya “ You could still see lots of damage from Hurricane Maria. I went to visit my brothers this past April 2022 with my son whom is a Marine Corps Officer And as we got closer to my home town the power lines and lots of arias on the road still looking like when I got out of there a week after the Hurricane past…yes! I was there during the Hurricane Maria. Anyway,I’m sure that if you go back today or three months from now and drive towards my hometown you will still see the remnants of the devastation from Maria. I guarantee it! Now I’m going to watch the other video of Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 that you have here bro. Great job bro!🤙🏽🤙🏽

Agree 100% with your observations regarding driving. I grew up around San Juan metro area moved to states 30 yrs ago but still go back twice a year. Drivers on the island are aggressive but pretty much know what their doing and they are not as dangerous as drivers in other parts of the world like Italy or south America were transit signs are rules are a suggestion. I consider NYC metro area and Boston driving conditions much worse and don’t forget south Florida idiotic drivers which probably have a higher accident rate than any other US metro area. Thanks for your videos and your spot on observations.

My ex-missus and daughter are from PR and I've visited the island a few times. The island has a beautiful and sad history. Plus the way it's categorized by the U.S. makes the people there American citizens but second-class. They actually have to fly to Miami, or anyway else on the mainland, if they want to vote in a presidential election. And The Jones Act is purely for profit which makes the goods and products that are imported cost almost twice as much as the mainland. The infrastructure: roads, bridges, utilities, etc., aren't being maintained because the money being sent down there isn't even reaching those services. But the people who choose to continue to live in those conditions are some of the most loving, friendly, helpful, caring, understanding, fun, and absolutely amazing people I've ever met. It really hurts my heart to see how everyone down there is struggling just to make a living for their families. It's quite unfortunate that people move down there just to use the island as a tax haven. The taxes that aren't paid by them are passed onto the people. Even some of the public beaches, that have been public for centuries, are starting to become privatized. Very sad for such a beautiful place with wonderful people. WEPA!

Public transportation was pretty bad in the 90s when I used it to go to college. I cannot imagine today, even with the Tren Urbano running. I am not sure if the públicos are still running (someone from the island correct me here but lately when I go to PR I only see the AMA buses in the metro area). I do knw Uber and Lyft run in the island. You need a car to move around)

Hola. I loved the video. I am from Washington DC and just left someone Puerto Rico. Two days ago period I thought I saw that the airport had wifi I didn't get the chance to Utilize or try it out. I had a rental car that was booked months in advance making things more affordable. But the Uber prices are great. Catching The cab was a smack in the face. It was more Feasible to get a taxi minivan vs a car l o l . I stayed in an airbnb in carolina then moved over to Condado Plaza hotel by Hilton where Condado beach meets the lagoon..The waters were perfectly amazing and calm because you're protected by the reefs.

Hi, as a local on the island, we have a bus service but it's horrible, we also have an urban train but it is only in the metropolitan area (in specific Bayamon, Guaynabo, and San Juan) only so it's not really reliable to travel. The best advice I can give you is to rent a car or to stay in Old San Juan city.

Hurricane Maria was nasty and it killed indirectly about 4,000 people but mostly was due to lack of power in elderly homes and hospitals, but overall infrastructure is designed to withstand hurricane winds. Floods and lack of power for lot of months is the main problem when storms hits the island. Beaches in the north coast are dangerous but in the south and west are great. Public transportation is not good but there is a bus system and a metro y San Juan, Ponce has a local bus system as well. And you are right Puertorriqueños drive better than other Latin Americans. Not the craziness of Bogota, Mexico, and even Santo Domingo 😳

You can search Act 20/22 in which an american or foreigner can come to the island basically create a company or llc an get tax exemptions reduced to 4% in total, they normally being millionaires come to the island and use it as a safe haven for their money no company being audited if its being making money and more while us the working class has the highest tax laws in the whole US territory plus the Cabotage Laws in the Jones Act which restrict to trade with the whole world. I’ll be more than happy to talk.

Why don't you protest if you don't like these acts?
@athena608
@athena608 2 жыл бұрын
They have been protesting, and it's been increasing more recently (support for the Independence Party has grown from 1% to 13% in just the last five years). Problem is who do they protest to. Congress? They have no House Rep or Senators. President? Their vote doesn't count there either. They recently kicked out a governor with a big protest in 2018 or 2019 (someone correct me on the date) but the politicians just run to the US and take their corruption money with them. The thing is, from the 1970s until the mid 2000s, things were good in Puerto Rico so most people didn't see the need to protest. Majority of people were for the status quo because they saw the benefits they got from it. There was federal aid flowing in to bolster them as a political foil to Cuba during the Cold War ("Operation Bootstrap"). They got federal tax breaks. The US gave tax breaks to companies moving operations to the island and hiring Puerto Ricans. People could move up out of poverty, get decent education and jobs, start businesses...Then they ended the tax breaks in 2006 and companies returned to the mainland and left unemployed workers behind. Then the Great Recession hit hard. Then the government default in the 2010s and the unelected PROMESA tribunal raising local taxes and stripping the country to pay off hedge fund investors and bondholder obligations before any other obligations (including school funding, university funding, gov salaries, pensions...). Then came Maria. And then gentrification with millionaire crypto-bros taking their tax breaks in PR and buying up the land people had to leave behind. It's all been coming to a head the last 15 years with no time for any recovery, and people are starting to feel the full sting of what being a not-state and not-independent actually means politically and financially when times aren't flush.

Them cruise ships! ⛴😊 Nice to see tourist exploring the Old City. Public transportation is some what, like some parts of Orlando or Texas your gonna need a car. It's a neccesity not a luxury. Unlike other countries motorcycles here are more for joy rides than transportation. Amazing to see 🏍clubs especially on Sundays. In regards to the driving...its OK not that bad. Teen drivers are always in a rush(speeding) to get to nowhere😑 Oh! by the way! the PRican anthem does not have a Reggueton beat😂, unless you're listening to Big Pun's version.

Act 22… only applies to foreigners. You don’t pay taxes on any capital gain, so it’s a tax haven for investors… why only foreigners? Because most puertoricans have lived in the island between the years that the law states (can’t remember from what year to what year).

And you gotta go to Salinas the food is crazy bangin the sea food is off da chain. They make tostones ( green refried Plantane) stuffed with shrimp or lobster or beef or pork or chicken it's inside this mimi pillow like made toston as we call it here in PuertoRico. You need to check out the biggest hotel in the world and in the Caribbean in PuertoRico called El Conquistador at Fajardo that's the next town over in luquillo also go to Fajardo to the beach called Las Croabas" bangin and where u can jump on a ferry from. Fajardo and go to viquez and culebra Island that's are from PuertoRico the beaches there are the most amazing and they are ranked in the top.ten in second place white sand beaches 4 different color tones and the beach has not waves or current that's how they rank a beach as being considered a paradise beach put it this these beaches have been use to come out on calender photos. Go to the in viequez called Esperanza then u tell me. Also. You need to go to Ponce and see one of the 7 wonders of the world where only PuertoRico and I think China has these waters they are phosphorus waters at night and glitter like silver it's amazing you have to go at night so you see and enjoy the view and Ponce is a lot going on too. Different vibe there and you need to go to El.yunke in luquillo if you haven't done that yet. The United States government has a secret military base there in that Yunke the rain forest you go in there and will see exotic plant life and the cascades and river falls insane beautiful you'll walk in there while the island is tropical hot 🔥 as fuk and when u go into the yunk.rain forest it so cool and the water is so perfect when u go for a dip

Also you need to be around when they have El festival de la Salsa internacional de Bacardi..where you'll see them big nasty PuertoRican Salsa orquesta playing live where all these legendary salsa stars come here P.R from ... and who took it world wide and introduced it to other places worldwide like south/central América and help form their Salsa bands their music is like cumbia which is from Colombia and Venezuela vallenato PuertoRico is the root and base of where the Salsa took off world wide and Reggueton and Spanish hip hop so if you go to any other Spanish speaking countries you'll hear our music there all south/central and plus the PuertoRican.salsa artist are always doing gigs in all south /,central America they love our music. But yea man, you have to go to the salseros internacional this is where all these Salsa dancers world wide even from Europe who are Salsa listeners and dancers aficionados come to compete and do a show from all over there world remember PuertoRicans took.this world wide that's why they now hear and sing and dance to Salsa music. Cuba has guarracha and charanga and Timba..dominiHaitianos o Haitídominicanos (dH/Hd) their music is Bachata, Colombia and all south and central is cumbia music and vallenato. BRAZIL is Samba Mexico is mariachi or ranchera like cowboy County music..just a little info so you can know if no one ever told you so you can see tye difference. Don't confuse da Wasabi with da guacamole.... just because we all speak Spanish don't mean we're all the same and the coaches not the same in the food is not the same in the music is not the same and of course we understand each other but we have different dialects and accents and words but they're totally different

Our music is not reguettón. We have a long music history and traditional music that goes from "Seis" in a wide variety, so aguinaldos, danzas, plena, bombas... Our culture is richier than what you think. We also have a long tradition of theatres plays, art, prints and more. We are not reguettón.

The best drivers? Man people do drive crazy there. Also Puerto Rico is not a country. It is a colony of the United States. How can you make the comparison to other countries 😆 . I would leave Puerto Rico out the list cause it is not a country 😂.
