-Putting off until you save… only if you are the ones paying for the whole roof, not using insurance. -Upgrading… I totally agree with doing your own research. -underlayment… synthetic is absolutely the way to go. Yes, the cost is about the same for the installer -Ice water shield… is really good. -scope of work/estimate is NON-NEGOTIABLE - - in the state of Texas when using insurance - insurance proceeds is the law. Part of the law in this state says that you WILL pay your deductible, witch is part of the overall insurance proceeds. Upgrades are normal and legal. -door to door sales… he’s right on both the good and bad. They are not allowed to pay the deductible in Texas. He’s right. -cheap shingles… He’s right. -buy the materials yourself… if the insurance is doing this, you don’t get to do this. No roofer will do that in Texas. He’s right on all points. -do it yourself… yes, you could absolutely do it yourself. The danger is real, and the inspection thing is huge.

Also how is best choice roofing as a roofing company I feel as though these guys are honest and told me to never fabricate damage and show the homeowner what kind of damage their working with and why it’s important to get it fixed

What do I do if my roofer wants cash. No money down and will not sign a contract. I seen them do my neighbors house ans they gave me pictures. $14,000 is alot not to sign a contract right?

Do not use that roofer. The possibilities of you getting ripped off are extremely high. Use directorii.com to find a reputable roofer in your city.

Be careful referring to code compliance as an upgrade when dealing with insurance. They are likely obligated to pay for code compliance but desk adjusters have a tendency to push back as a reaction to the term upgrade.

Completely agree. The actual term is "ordinance and law," not "code upgrade." Your insurance carrier isn't obligated to upgrade you.

Thanks for the question. I'd like to re-emphasize something I've said in other videos. Just because a roofer is a door-to-door roofer doesn't make him a bad or unethical roofer. The problem you have when you go d2d is that you're perceived by the homeowners as pretty much no different from the other 10 roofers that have knocked on their door. If you're going to go D2D, try to have a plan on how you can present yourself to be different - and BETTER - than the other guys within the first 5 seconds after the homeowner answers the door. That's all the time you have. One suggestion I would have would be to study and use Direct Mail. You can reach thousands of houses and homeowners in a fraction of the time you can knock on 100 doors. The other suggestion would be to start a blog and a KZfaq channel.

I also do door to door roofing sales. I'm licensed and registered through the state. Everyone I work with is top notch and honest. We show proof of registration and our license. I also tell them to review us online. Before we start any project, I show them proof of insurance and we sign a contract to protect the homeowner and ourselves. There are inspections from the city and we pull permits. Nothing wrong with D2D if it's a legit company. I know lots of terrible companies that don't do D2D. We're not all bad apples.

Synthetic is non-permeable. If you don't have good ventilation, then just go with 15lb felt. Most roofers don't understand the science behind ventilation and their inexperience will cost you money. I give detailed scope on all bids and put RCV plus any additional supplement requests. Nothing wrong with that.

Had a guy contract to install 6 downspouts that’s it! No gutters and was going to charge me $1266!! He blamed it on inflation.

If they were all 2nd story downspouts, that sounds about right.

@@homesteadroofing tell us how. I googled cost of downspouts and they were about $20 a piece.

@@lizadivine3785 If you have 6 downspouts that begin on a 2nd story roof, that's 6 x 24Lf. That's 144Lf of downspout. There's a lot of labor involved in installing a gutter to a 2nd story. If you have 144Lf of downspouts, at $1266, that's only $8.79 per Lf. That seems very reasonable to me. It's actually a pretty low price. But let's say only half of those downspouts are on a 2nd level and the rest are on the first level. That would be 3 x 12Lf (36Lf) and 3 x 24Lf (72Lf), for a total of 108Lf. At $1266, that's $11.72 per Lf. That seems a little high, but still definitely within the market price. And yes, you can thank our government overlords for this, and it is only going to get much worse this year.

@@homesteadroofing I had written initially they were down spouts ONLY they were leaving the original gutters in place. He was just increasing the size of the down spout by an inch. This guy said the cost of metal was up thanks to joe Biden. He’s from a well known company in my area. Looks to me like he’s a master in screwing people out of money.
