@@gabrielberger7439 I still don't see how it's a bad thing to go to a title screen before the main menu. Books do the same thing, a second title page before it gets to any acknowledgments or table of contents. In Dead Rising if you don't press start at the title screen and just wait you get a special scene that plays.

Because the moment they do that some would be know it all will think they know how to play and skip the tutorial, get their butt handed to them, get mad and in this day and age leave some scathing review about the game and how much it sucked. Better to nip it in the bud and hold your hand for the first mission no matter how condescending it is.

Mar Hawkman less used/used in a weird way. If it adds a non-normal thing like a damage reduction then sure. Its kinda like his “character classes” point. Most games have the basics but might have a special version of the classes.

Um...a game that doesn't tell you what ailments do is badly designed. There is no "standard" there, either. Poison: Poisons that work only in combat and ones that work out of it too. Poisons that remain until end of combat, until cured or X number of turns pass. Poisons that work at the beginning or end of turn. Poisons that deal fixed damage ignoring defense or % damage. Poisons that deal % damage of current or max HP. Poisons that can kill or that will always leave 1HP. Poisons that deal 5%, 10%, 15% and so on. Poisons that stack or not. And this is on top of any additional effects they may have. Burn: Exact same deal as poison. Usually within the scope of a game it differs by making one deal damage based on current HP while the other on max HP, other times the variety is just in turns they work for and potency. Petrify: As always, the duration is there. Then there's the fact of whether a character is petrified gradually or instantly. Whether a petrified character is removed from combat or not. Whether a petrified character will be destroyed on another hit or not (in Final Fantasy Tactics series for example, their defense is actually increased). Whether a petrified character that's destroyed will be removed from combat or not (if I remember correctly, Final Fantasy main series makes it impossible for petrified characters that were broken to return to given combat, for example, while in other games they are just dead and can be revived). Then whether it can actually be cured, as petrification is the most common status to have special healing methods. In some games it cannot be cured, but ends with combat. In other games it can be cured only with items, but not magic. Confusion: Duration again. But also whether it works randomly (like pokemon) or every round (like most tactic RPG's). Whether it lets you pick attack or not. In action games and games with simultaneous turns (where enemies take step with every step you take), it can just randomly mess up directional controls, or it can switch them up at beginning but they remain shiften in that exact way for the duration. Blind: Now, this one is the most cut and dry. But there's still the duration there. Commonly, the game either halves hit rate or decreases it by a fixed percentage, so even there is a difference. Silence: Similarly to blind mostly cut and dry...but it can affect only spells or all skills (including physical). In more ambitious mechanically RPG's (ones based on P&P RPG's, specifically D20 kind), there are even spells that have no verbal component that CAN be cast while silenced. So...exactly what are you complaining about? The first thing I do in an RPG is look for the description of ailments...because they always vary from game to game. Also...saying that some "unusual" uses of ailments getting explained is fine, but the standard ones is not, shows that you are a poor designer at all. What you said is extremely unprofessional. In a design, if you give one part of a "bundle" a treatment and arbitrarily not do that for the rest...it's just horrible design. If you explain any ailment, you should explain all of them, even the most obvious, simply because that's a natural thing to expect.

The Onimusha games for me. I played those games quite a lot, and I never skipped the opening cutscenes because of how good they are.

I haven't found many games that make me want to restart solely to watch the intro cut-scene, but have found too many game that I love that don't have a skip cut-scene option so I can actually start playing the game I love.

I am ashamed to say this, but when I read "keep rolling, rolling, rolling", I sang it in my head like the Limp Bizkit song. I am so disappointed in myself.

For some reason GameFreak doesn't seem to understand that alot of its fans are +20 years old now and still act as if we have to learn everything all over again. There should be an option of "I'm new, I have played a little or I'm an experienced player" and adjust the difficulty and number of tutorials accordingly. Seriously the games are so easy these days that it's rather boring. Seeing how poorly executed Sword and Shield is I doubt this is going to change this time either...

Yes they are considered kid's games but if a major part of its fanbase are essentially young adults they SHOULD take it in account in both difficulty and things like tutorials. Otherwise it means that they're ignoring a big part of their playerbase. It's not even hard to do by any means, just create a difficulty setting where the opponents's levels and AI intelligence depends on what difficulty you play it with. Thing is, GameFreak don't *need* to do it cause nothing compels them to it. People will always buy pokemon games regardless if they have these features or not. That doesn't excuse the fact that there should be one though.

Depends on game. Ps3 was standard to find that but most now use r2/l2 by default. I flip them in accessibility if they dont allow in game.
