A mole in the bank. 1908. Kenneth Grahame, author of The Wind in the Willows, worked at the Bank of England during his writing career. The Bank of England Museum contains many exhibits on Grahame, and still hosts family readings of The Wind in the Willows.

You are very kind, thank you. And yes, it is profoundly moving (and both Tolkien and C S Lewis highly rated the W in T W)

when Toad appears the narrative voice changes to sound more like Oscar Wilde, because Toad is a parody of Wilde ("Toad's Wilde Ride"). There is also a recording of Oscar Wilde's voice on youtube and it is clear enough to imitate the pitch and tone-but this results in most men sounding exactly like Toad. I researched Grahame/Willows in my senior year in college.

I would have a cup of tea with Pan. Not really a charectar, though he does make an appearance.🔥quite a strange one many people wonder about - not just because the chapter is the title of a pink floyd album. Piper reads like an avant garde dream.

Thanks for saying Math, not maths. As an American it for some reason bothers me when maths gets said. Or hache for H. Oh it kills me. Sorry, had to get it out, haha

I also found this disturbing in the movie as the goat-god Pan was portrayed in the 83 film as a benevolent being who watched over children and guided Rat and Mole with peaceful sounds in finding the young otter sleeping peacefully on a type of an alter at the foot of the Pan statue. Although l love WITW and it was a favorite of my daughter, l couldn’t remember Pan being in the book l read to her. The message was disappointingly blatant and to me placed a dark blue bruise on an otherwise beautiful and delightful story.
