I don't either! And also the people that work at them! But anytime out in public and in danger, don't scream, but instead, yell out "FIRE" and that always gets their attention!

When I was a kid I was on the "zipper" with my cousin at a fair. While the ride was going the door opened which was so scary. Ever since then I just cant ride anything at a fair.
@pseula
@pseula 4 жыл бұрын
@@jodiemeisenholder789 I rode the zipper with my older brother when I shouldn't have been allowed on as per the height restriction. I don't remember this (that's how small I was!), but my brother tells me I slipped right out from under whatever restraint was in place and he spent the entire ride stretched out trying to pin me to the ceiling/floor so I didn't get bashed about too badly, and screaming for the attendant to stop the ride. They didn't hear him. I was obviously fine, but telling this story even today (I'm in my 40s now) still leaves my brother visibly shaken...

When I was a little kid, probably around 7 years old or so, my dad took me to a small carnival at a local park in our rural Oregon town. After a while, we mutually decided to go try a ride called The Octopus. For anyone unfamiliar, this is a ride that looks like a giant shiny black octopus with booth-like pod cars at the end of each arm. The arms spin around the head of the octopus very fast while also waving up & down as they spin, & the cars themselves spin 'round at the tips of the arms as well. The only thing that held patrons in their seats was a single metal bar that was lowered into & laid across their laps that you could hold onto and footrests on the floor. I don't remember seeing a height sign for the ride, & I think my dad must've figured that if it weren't safe for me that the operator surely would've said something & not let me on, & it SHOULD have been safe from what I've seen of recent videos of kids on this ride now. Looking back, I'm not 100% sure what happened to cause the event to unfold the way that it did. But anyway, we got on & sat down... my feet didn't reach the footrests. When the car's speed started cooking along, I could feel my body starting to slip down, beyond where the slick hard plastic seat curved, where your bum should be. This startled me, & I started to white-knuckle the "safety bar". The speed & force of the car increased, & I started slipping even further down. I could feel my body was heading UNDER the bar. I screamed to my dad that I was slipping, & he immediately grabbed onto me the best he could with both hands, trying to wrap his arms around me. The force trying to rip me from his desperate grasp was so strong that I thought for sure I was going to be sucked out from under that bar & that I would die. It felt like titans were playing tug-o-war with my body, & it felt like dad just couldn't get a secure enough grip on me. I screamed in panic, BEGGING my dad to help, & just continually repeating that I was slipping & that I couldn't hold on. Idk if the operator noticed what was happening, or if we were just lucky, but just soon enough, the ride began to slow. The gradual release of all of that immense force washed over me as my sense of relief began to stabilize. Once the car came to a stop & the now seemingly pointless bar had lifted, I booked it off the ride. I waited for my pops while he had a few words with the operator, & then we left... & I never rode The Octopus ever again.

Honestly if that was me in story number 4 I would have laughed and sung along with them and then I would have looked at all of them and told them that before that ride was over I would take one of them out with me if not all of them then I'll be the only one walking off the ride. People are less likely to try to hurt you if you show them you can be just as crazy as they are, if not crazier.

When I was a kid two young got into a fight at the fair and one left mad, she went missing. Someone who had already served jail time found her and when he was done with her they found parts of her in a swamp. It was a huge thing when I was a kid and made me afraid to go walking by myself anywhere.

I remember I hadn't been awhile after growing up going every year because my parents are sweet. Went as an adult a few years back with my dad and he had to personally break up a physical fight between girls and the concerts we used to attend werent even available. A couple years later after bringing my toddler and it was remarkably smaller (far few rides) and over priced admission, tickets and food/drink. Last year there were even more limited rides and even less people. Got called out by so many vendors trying to get my son to play their tricky games for a cheap ass prize 🙄

@@headfirst_for_sweet_revenge_ I loved them as a child, but never as an adult. I hate the crowds, the prices and the overbearing people calling out to you to play their rigged games. I dont trust any ride put up overnight. Lol I dont trust rides that have taken years to build. Ive just heard too many nightmare stories, and had close calls as a kid on those rides. Someone was killed at our state fair over the last few years on one of those rides that were put up overnight. No way will I ever get on an amusement ride again..well maybe a merry-go-round with the grandbabies..nothing more.

American Horror Story: Freakshow feeds into the fears that appear in stories just like these. Seriously, traveling fairs/sideshows are ripe locations for creepy ride operators "giving you the eye", carnival workers hurting others behind the scenes, and kidnapping unsuspecting guests, among other things.

I don't trust the "carnies" in general! We used to ride the ferris wheels in the 60s when they were little more than a bench with only thin frames and bolts. Sometimes those carnies would give them a good push when the ride was starting and that was a scare you won't get on any rides today. SMH!

That first story was pretty tame. Here are some brief recaps of my experiences as a vendor. 1. Leaving Carson City someone slashed L's in each of our back tires with the intent we'd pop our tires leaving town. We made it to Sacramento and discovered the tires were slashed because one had lost some air when we arrived. 2. A guy creeped on our booth all day at the Russian River Blues Festival in 2005. We gave him a ride and we were instantly pulled over by police. I was sitting in the center of the two seats and the occifer said I needed to move to the back. The creeper put the seatbelt around my neck in front of the cop and said I could wear the belt this way. The cop and I looked at each other bugged eyed as I pulled the seat belt off me and moved to the back. Then the creeper went on to tell my husband (at the time) he'd killed and gotten away with it. When we got to our location my husband pulled me into the van and we got out of there. Then my husband was arrested a few hours later for illegal camping. I went and packed the festival booth and then found my husband. A couple was murdered in Jenner that year, and we were near there. 3. In central west Nevada somewhere a woman overheard me talking about physics and chemistry class. She asked me if I was a satanist and started screaming at me for being a satanist. I screamed at her back and she proceeded to throw a tantrum and hug me crying. I let the promoter know I wouldn't be returning to his town. 4. In Weed, California, I shared a booth-space with this insufferable controlling con artist of a man who was probably trying to rob me. People at the festival thought I had sex with him: I did not. He was a manipulative liar and he tried to get over on me financially. I left him at the greyhound station. He had his girlfriend call and cuss me out. He is named after a book of the bible, so if you are in Weed California, avoid that guy. 5. In Kern county my booth was ripped off and they never found the thieves. 6. I've been at two different festivals where vendors died tragically. 7. In San Jose a booth next to me was selling "art" but they were really a cover for hard drugs. High people kept nodding out and rolling into my booth by mistake and I had to roll them back into the druggie's booth. 8. Once I gave a woman two EXTRA feet of booth space SHE COULD USE and she proceeded to scream at me claiming I was in her booth space even though she was literally taking up two feet of my booth space. She yelled at me even when the promoter intervened. She just wouldn't stop. 9. In Marysville, a group of rude middle aged white women poured hot chocolate on five of our boutique scarves because they were angry about the price. I was able to clean all but the white one with water and they sold. The white one did not stain and I still have it as a personal scarf. 10. In Winnemucca, NV, some snowflake bikers pissed on my van because I'm a liberal (but not a neoliberal) and they didn't like hippies. 11. Finally, a positive story in such that it's funny. Five men spent over one full hour trying to pop up a 10'x10' booth in a 8'x10' space, and they just couldn't get that it wasn't going to happen. For over an hour. I kid you not. I switched careers. Now I deal with ticks and fire damage. It's a decent trade.

And once a guy yelled at me for letting two kids steal while their grandmother was literally putting the cash in my hand for what they had. He didn't stop to learn she was their grandmother, either, just stormed off blaming the failure of society on me and my kind that let people steal. Okay broseph.

Another time a vendor tried to pass me a fake fifty dollar bill he had received from a customer and told me "fifty dollar bills are smaller than the other bills" hoping I'd believe him and fall for that. Although overall most vendors tend to be honest but not that guy.
