Take away: we are more creative with better ideas when we respond out of emotions that are not fear based. Love the positive spin with lots of good action points!!

I think it’s extremely important to remind ourselves what we’re fighting for and what our goals are. The fight is bound to feel hopeless without a goal in mind. If we just run around screaming in panic and if we’re only lead by fear and doomsday rhetoric we won’t actually solve any issues, in fact we might undo things or make certain things worse (ex. greenwashing) or put our focus in the wrong places (ex. plastic straws). Scooping water out of a sinking boat won’t help very much if you don’t patch up the holes. From panicking we might end up with a greener world in some ways, but it won’t be *sustainable* and meaningful in the long run. We need a literal revolution to make sure we get out of the climate crisis now and that it’ll never happen again.

I love that I get my diversity in the food I eat now that I subscribe to a service that saves food waste, it challenges my taste and my creativity when cooking weird looking veg!

I’ve recently become hyper focused on how fabric is made. Finding out we started making linen 36,000 years ago blew my mind. This has lead me to wanting to learn how to make my own fabric. Hopefully more people will become interested in plant textiles that don’t over use resources.

I am also on a 'journey' to find more sustainable clothing /shakes fist at bamboo.., lately i've been spotting a lot of linenstores on Etsy. Linen and tencel/modal are i think most sustainable, or atleast a far bit more than cotton and plastic.

@@11235Aodh hemp is the way to go! It's durable, growing it uses way less water and it's an easy plant that has other benefits as well. Hemp should become our new material for jeans, replacing cotton as the fabric used for denim.

It is so nice to be reminded of the good changes that can come from this :) I actually had quite an interesting conversation with someone a while back, which ties into the whole "making good decisions out of fear" dilemma. We were talking about how the topic of climate change and sustainability is incorporated and discussed in our studies. And one thing she mentioned was, that she only ever gets to hear the negative sides, the problems were facing, what is going wrong etc. but very seldomly actual solutions are proposed. This really stuck with me, because I do feel like she is right. A lot of the time, when people talk about climate change, they solely talk about the "anxiety-inducing" bits. And then you leave the conversation and feel more scared, and thus less motivated to change something because all you see is this mountain of problems. SO I guess what I am trying to say is, that videos like this are actually quite helpful and may be a way in which we should move forward. It is, by now, generally acknowledged, that there is a climate crisis happening and while I believe that it is incredibly important to discuss the problems and spread awareness and also go into detail, I believe that it is equally important, if not more so, to discuss solutions, to propose things people can actually do and to also talk about the goals, the good things, that can come from it...

Thanks for an excellent video! I started living “zero” waste 5 years ago and now I am focused on addressing climate change. But I have myself been discouraged by our lack of progress and lack of interest by people. This video gave me hope and inspires me to do more. You are so right! We can’t think when we are afraid…. We need to focus on the positive and what we can do. Merci from Montreal! 💚💚💚

Also love that my hair has improved because turns out my curly hair hates certain common ingredients and when I switched to a bar recommended for curls... Bam! Instant improvement and it's getting better longer I've been using it! Sustainablity accidentally guided me to knowing what is better for me in many ways

I'd love this sort of thing to be a more regular type of video from you. I agree that hearing positive change is a motivating factor because it reinforces it is actually possible. Maybe like a "good news" type deal with advances in tech/fighting plastic pollution/conservation?

Thank you so much! Yeah, it's true that a positive motivation is so much more helpful than fear. I read a LOT about climate and sustainably and I am stating to develop a climate anxiety and consumption anxiety (all needs energy / produces CO2 but I MUST consume anything to be alive). To hear good news is balm for my soul 💛🌱

Excellent video! And I realised I heavily lean towards these point both in classes where I teach waste management and sustainability and in conversation with people around me, I think people who are farther away from a sustainable life style are more convinced and pulled towards it when it just simply feels good! And has all the personal benefits you just mentioned

I used to believe that Extinction Rebellion had a purpose but after my husband's workplace has been vandalised (possibly by them or some affiliated kind of groups) I believe they don't have a purpose apart just being pathetic vandals. The smashed, broken windows will have to be replace, so how is that good for the environment? So sad. In future videos, please address positive ways of protesting against climate change and discourage this kind of behaviour, if you agree 😘
@11235Aodh
@11235Aodh Жыл бұрын
So because of what a small group of maybe affiliated people do we should just put the whole organisation aside? Ofcourse noone in their right mind would think that smashing windows or destroying anything is beneficial to the environment.

Any protest that wastes resources is detrimental, especially since those happenings very rarely reach those responsible in the top, I think they often create more negativity towards the movement
