Did you know that there are lots of things you can do on your own to work towards becoming a wildlife biologist, ecologist, or conservationist? In 2020, I did an episode about 3 tips. Since then, I've expanded it to 7 with more information about how you can create your own experience to put on your resume.

Fantastic video with many valuable advice! I'm a much older student (boomer?) that decides to pursuit ecology at the local university. It's both exciting and scary since it's been decades since my last course work. I enjoy reading scientific papers to help better understand my small-scale plant and bug collections. Hopefully I could do well in school to help me one day conduct more elaborate wildlife research.

You definitely can! Don't let age hold you back. In grad school many students were in their 30s and one or 2 in their 40s. Did you see this podcast? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rZ-Gd7WIvLicoKs.html. Reach out to me if you need help. Stephanie@fancyscientist.com

@@FancyScientist Thank you for directing me to this interview Dr. Manka! I'm mid 40's. It helped me realize the years spent in various job industries are better perceived as cultivating transferrable skills. Perhaps I could organize my notes on plants and insects as mini citizen science projects. Though the contribution may be little to none, it'll still be a good practice. Another take away is to start volunteer for wildlife works sooner rather than later. I had doubts about going back to school but now I'm excited to take on the challenge!

@@joreyum For real send me an email and I can help you achieve your dream. I have programs that specifically do this. One of my students has a job in computer science and is now in grad school for ecology.
