As a Canadian resident who doesn't do hardcore offroading. My biggest concern is getting stuck in mud, I use a long piece of snowmobile track. It's hard rubber and flexible so it's no good for a few of these situations, but it's got unbelievable traction.
@ED-es2qv

Nice. I used mine once to turn around in about 6ft of snow, where the road ruts I was in were built up, meaning if you backed off the road you would sink. I used my rear winch to pull the back out of the icy rut and onto the max trax, then I drove back into the ruts pointed the other way. Saved me backing up 5 miles.

Good video and I will definitely use a few of these, I live at the beach and I drive on the dunes all the time no issues with my truck but I do find stuck tourist often who should not be there with even their small cars but I always just grab a tow strap and get them out, some tracks would be ideal for some situations.

I've seen them mounted on the roofs of 4WDs permanently , maybe for use in the shopping centre car parks etc . They must be some kind of symbol for the die-hard 4WDriver , they will perish in the hot sun and be useless when they break when used , put them away till needed in an off-road situation . Nice handy tips Ronny :-)

You are the number one man, amazing the gear they have for 4x4 driving. I remember in the 80s most 4x4 vehicle's didn't have diff lockers and most of the gear they have now,the problem now is storage and knowing when to use it for example front diff lockers are easily broken if you put them in the wrong terrain.
@seanworkman431

If you CIG the front diff and beef up the axles you'll be fine, just don't engage 4x4 unless on the soft stuff. (CIG=weld the planetaries)

very enjoyable yet informative! keep them coming Ronny and big up yourself! I have not the pleasure to own any recovery tracks so far, so mine is an idea coming from observation rather than direct experience: would not be a good idea to tight a string to a track handle and then to the rear bumper so to have them pulled out after obstacle is passed (and have not to dig in the mud) ?...

I think you, Ronny and team, should make up some basic kits that viewers can purchase from your merchandise store (I don't know if you have one). Like a beginners kit, 2 trax, snatch rope, hard & soft shackles, tree protector and a hand winch. You know what people need and could put comprehensive kits together for all needs and I am sure many suppliers would be on board. Then the viewers could rely on your integrity to source the best quality/value for money. Matt's Off Road Recovery do a similar thing with snatch packs and tie downs. I get around in an old Forester but at the tip today was looking at a jacked up dual cab with chunky tyres and thought I could put money down that I do more mudding than he does but I do get over confident at times and a simple grab bag on the roof would be great esp. with your logo on it. Chasing the troopy was funny as F$%^ :)

And the bottle jack problem. I haven't yet found a bottle jack that allows enough movement to raise a 4WD high enough out in the field without having to do some extra stuff. To get one that will raise a raised 4WD high enough to swap a tire means carting around something that weighs 4 tons !
@MrNeroDiablo
@MrNeroDiablo Жыл бұрын
Carry two or keep the stock one (which are normally crap especially 70 series) use the first one to compress the spring/lift the axle and then the bottle jack to actually lift the vehicle.
@chrissybabe8568
@chrissybabe8568 Жыл бұрын
@@MrNeroDiablo I wasn't worried about using it on a Toyota. However I have found that the best solution is the OEM scissors jack as it is quite a bit larger than the usual car jack. I also bought the middle sized bottle jack from SCA but found afterwards it should have been the larger of the 3 and this one weighs 4 tons (not really but it is still a lot heavier - so much so that I have gone off the bottle jack idea).
@888johnmac
@888johnmac Жыл бұрын
lol , put the jack on the axel / axle .. then you don't have to deal with feet of suspension travel
@chrissybabe8568
@chrissybabe8568 Жыл бұрын
@@888johnmac Could do that except that I prefer the vehicle oem jacking point along the side frame as it means not having to clamber around under the vehicle in mud etc. As I mentioned above decided that the oem scissors jack works fine also because it can be wound up using a power drill and large socket. I'll find a use for the bottle jack one of these days.
