Bjorn, I don't know why, but I find the videos where you present older, more affordable cars like this Soul far more interesting than the ones where you show the newest and most expensive models. I think you should include more videos with different upgrades that can be fitted to the older, existing EVs that have been on the roads for several years. I'm sure there are a lot of owners out there that would appreciate that. Keep up the good work!

I own an ‘18 Soul EV with that 30 kWh battery. I have yet to lose any significant capacity, It gets the same mileage as it did when new. It’s got 90 000 km on the odo, and it has yet to need any work done on it. It just works. The low battery alerts are annoying, but they can be reduced in settings. My car charges as fast as 68 kW on 100+ kW charging stations. Very nice!

I have a 4 year old 30kw soul ev here in the UK with nearly 50k on the clock. I have owned it myself for 2 years and noticed little to no degeration on GOM miles. I have previously owned a 24kw leaf (which lost 1 bar just before I sold it) and a first gen i3 BEV which was all over the place on GOM miles, it used to make me super anxious if going anywhere near the expected range. The reliabilty of the 30kw soul is super impressive and certainly helped set a bench mark for current EV's

Since 2 1/2 years my 2015 Soul has the new battery. The Soul has driven 180'000km, 40'000 km with the new battery. It's awsome the improvement. Last week we masured the battery with a degradation only 0.1%! The range is up to 260km. 200km Swiss Autobahn . Beste EV EVER 🥰

I own a 2016 Soul EV in Canada. Just had the battery replaced under warranty last week. It was degraded to 50% of original capacity( was still managing to drive 140-160 km a day with a charging session in between). Went to the dealership in July 22 after noticing a sudden drop in range, refurbished battery installed in February 23, 7 months later. The refurbished battery is larger capacity than original. 30KW ~ 28.5 KW usable, used to be 27KW ~ 26 usable.. It feels like a new car, incredible to be able to drive 130 km in proper winter ;-) -12 C at highway speeds yesterday. Updated for the summer, I did 190 km one was charge yesterday, mix of highway and country roads.

The replacement battery may have a different chemistry than original equipment, hence, the improved performance.

On October 5, 2016, I became the proud owner of a Kia Soul EV. The reach has decreased significantly over the past year and a half. In the autumn of 2022 I could only travel 110 km with a full battery. However, according to the dealer, the SoH was still above 70%, so I was not entitled to a replacement within the 7-year warranty. Last August, under favorable conditions, I was only able to achieve 90 km on a full battery. The car had 120,000 km on the odometer at the time. Fortunately, a claim under the warranty was accepted at that time. The new battery was ordered. The new battery was installed on September 26, 2023 (9 days before the warranty expires). On September 28, I was able to cover no less than 215 km on 1 full battery with 2% remaining. With the old battery I once managed 178 km under the same conditions. So I must have gotten a bigger battery now. I am very happy with that. Hopefully we can enjoy our Kia Soul EV for at least 7 additional years. Bjørn I would like to thank you for the videos you made about the Kia Soul EV with battery degradation. This helped me enormously to convince the dealer that I also was entitled to a battery replacement.

You can set the low battery warning to not repeat. There's a bug with the low battery warnig variable, it resets if you regen enough to 25~26% after the warning, then the warning will be shown again when it lowers from 25~26%.

151 wh/km = 245 wh/mile. That's more than double the consumption of what Aptera are saying their EV will do. Of course, that's vaporware at the moment until people actually take delivery of their Apteras and start testing them. Maybe in the future, if the Aptera makes its way to Norway we will see a Bjorn Nyland video and range test. You wouldn't even need to carry your Ecoflow with you when you do the run flat test. Just park for an hour or so and it will self-charge a few more kms into the battery and you'll be good to go LOL.

Hey Bjorn, I see you are really excited and positive about the battery replacement under warranty. However, it’s also quite worrying to see that a car that is not even 8 years old and has driven 100.000 km already needs a battery replacement. If it was not under warranty anymore, then the car would be economically written off considering the price of the battery. Don’t you think this is going to be a problem in near future for EV owners whose cars warranty is going to expire? Will be really risky to invest 20/30k in an second hand EV having the chance that it will be written of in case the battery breaks down😅

Bjorn, key question for you - are you able to find out whether this new battery is actually full of new cells? Apparently on the forums and part numbers on the service documents there can be a Remanufactured battery vs a new battery. New ones are extremely rare now given the car model is out of production. On average the price for one out of warranty is approx 17K CAD / 15K USD. Remanufactured ones (the good cells mixed and matched to build one) are 10 times cheaper - one parts site had a list price of 1500 USD. It would be interesting to hear back about this little Kia Soul (I would be at least😂); I’m going to plan to do a range test on mine as well - battery replaced in Dec 2023 with a Remanufactured battery, from the 2018-19 newer batteries.

It would be nice, if you can, to have information about EV repairs related with battery packs: places where it can be done, how it can be made for different EV models (repair / full pack replacement), cost of service, etc...

Bjorn, which video is it? Where you talked to Nassir and a second mechanic. Where the second mechanic mentioned the original Soul battery degradation is mostly the top 2 battery cells. Replacing these two top cells would reverse most degradation.

I had the 30kWh version from 2017 to 2019. Then got the 64kWh in 2020. Great car, though for better resale value maybe id have done better with an eNiro.

My warranty limit was 80% SOH@100 000 km. But it was 81,25%... just above the limit.. :-(

My car is 2018 and has done over 50.000km but I only charge at home and can't notice any drop in range. Is that normal or is it Kia hiding it and using the buffer to cover the disappearing range? I really want to find out now:D

Now is here in Austria cheaper if you drive gasoline car instead electric car , because of high prices on fast chargers. Electricity is becoming so expensive. Only if you have at home possibility to charge it comes cheaper. A lots of us don't have possibility to charge at home so we will drive our cheap gasoline cars for many years.

EV haters always raggin on about how expensive the batteries will be... when we change them every 3 years apparently... the prices ive heard so far are pretty acceptable and theyre only gonna get cheaper as tons more production is ramping up... and the more widely adopted your car is the more people will scramble to sell you upgraded batteries at acceptable prices
