70,000lb Battery Destroys KZfaqr's Trailer! It's not often, if ever, we get a job where the customer has a larger KZfaq following than I do! He's not as active, but still his subscriber count is quite impressive. His channel is here if you're curious: / @ikikardesh
Back the job, this was called in the night before as you see in the beginning of the video. CHP made the call to not allow us to do the job at night, and instead told us to come back the following morning. The reasoning makes sense: traffic was too fast at night and it would be easier to work in the rush hour morning traffic. Alex responded in Big Flipper, our 75ton rotator and Dave assisted in his 40ton rotator.
These lithium batteries are NO JOKE! We do these soo much for various accounts, and the weight is incredibly deceptive. They use these to power casinos, hospitals, events, all kinds of uses. Luckily they look just like a standard container and have the same lift points, which we are experts in. The length of this was short which means the weight was super concentrated. Alex made the call to back up to Dave's truck, since he knew he would be lifting off the corner and he is much stronger off the back corner compared to the front corner.
You'll see in the video how this super heavy battery absolutely destroyed the poor trailer. Welds broke, bolts were sheared, it's pretty much done for. In hindsight, this should have been transported on a lowbed or 3 axle trailer to better handle the concentrated weight. All in all a fun job with a super cool customer that had a great attitude despite having to spend the night in his truck on the freeway.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with that trailer! The driver was 100% at fault for improperly loading it. All the weight was on the tongue and none of it on the axles. I’m pretty sure that trailer isn’t even rated for 70,000 + pounds in the first place.

In my opinion, it really is the wrong trailer for the job. The trailer is probably rated for 80,000 but the problem with a centralized load like that is that proper placement means placing at the maximum stress point of the trailer, which is direct center. Moving the load back far enough to put 40,000 on the trailer axles may have worked but makes the truck want to jack-knife with very little weight on its rears. A triaxle trailer, or a shorter trailer would have been the ticket. In my opinion of course.

How does a heavy haul truck, not have everything he needs to secure a load? Back when I was doing heavy haul, I never had this issue, with not having what ever I needed

So according to LA CHP, more traffic in daylight is better than less traffic at night. They must love that congestion down there.

By 32 tons they mean 32 metric tons. A metric ton is 1000 kg or 2200 pounds, 32 metric tons is 70,400 pounds, about what was printed on the container.

70 000lb + on 2 axle aluminum trailer and a truck with 2 axle only no pusher....way way overloaded , I have a 3 axle trailer and safely can pickup 64 000lb load with a single extra pusher axle on a truck, safety load to pickup is 72 000 lb if its set up right, so this guy was way overloaded, no wonder he broken the nose of the trailer off. Maybe this truck driver did not know what he was doing.?. TH

Good call by CHP telling you to come back in the am. I don't know why you guys don't use headsets to communicate rather than yelling; seems it would be safer that way. Another good one. Steak and lobster on Josh.

It's really funny how that one bolt that goes thru the shackle, holds all the weight of the load.

There are so many on here that shouldn’t be anywhere near a tractor and trailer!! Shew some of you have some much experience and knowledge you should be designing trailers and writing the DOT regulations. With the comments like “those frame rivets are like bullets to a windshield” there is no reason someone should ever be able to place a load incorrectly on a truck with them in control. Genious’ I’m telling you.

So CHP didn’t want to close two lanes at night when traffic is decently light-and instead want to close lanes right during rush hour when traffic is the most heavy? How about closing the lanes at 1 or 2am when there is hardly any traffic and the economic cost to the community is minimized-and the danger to the workers is also minimized as there are far fewer people on the road.

Looks like he needed the tag axle under the neck, maybe setting it back mid span might have helped enough before it snapped, looks like the wrong trailer for the job. Miller would like a call for you to buy the new 100t rotator.
