Let's Talk Plus Weekly Giveaway: linktr.ee/mysticryan
This week we have some rumors and speculation surrounding new entries for Socom and also God of War. Which we go over, alongside the PS Plus Extra & Premium April lineup. SIE has been really grinding out PS Plus deals to where this is the most day 1 debuts we've had on the service in a single month. We also see Stellar Blade has gone gold (and is being played by a LOT of people). We've also got word that Microsoft is using Sea of Thieves as a key test for if they should bring over more games. Hmmm, curious stuff that is. Also curious is the opinions being shared from the Saber Interactive CEO about $70 video games. So let's talk up a storm about that, shall we? Just a TORRENT. A DOWNPOUR of discussion. Absolutely SOAKED.

Yeah the more and more I'll demand from a game the higher the price is. Yet, if the price was at around 50, I'd likely buy many more just to have a "good"/"ok" game, managing to overlook some of it's flaws. Not to mention how I feel like bought a lot more games at 50-60 prices than now at 70. If their price increase to 70 means half less sales, then they would've made a fair bit more money even selling at 50. (1000 games at 50 = 50k. 500 games at 70 = 35k) Kinda weirds me out how little any dev tries going that way, as the sheer numbers would bring more money than raising the product price, especially now that digital sales won't even mean that they gotta print copies.

I'll just say, the $70 game with 200hr gameplay is why 60% of the gaming market is playing 6+ year old games (it was a study that came out last week). They are driving people out of "Day One" purchase window and looking for sales or used bins, or even worse, forgettable games in 2 years because they never spend their money on that game and bought something else. And we are currently in a place where the top 2 games of 2024 sells are Palworld and Helldivers 2 that are $40 and $50 games... out selling and making more profits than $70 games.

its also because so many games come out now and they require a lot of time to play, and a lot of us have jobs. only reason I don't buy day 1 usually is because I have a full time job and a family and only have around an hour a day to play video games now. them being $70 doesn't really matter to me since its only a $10 increase from what they used to be. I assumed inflation would eventually affect gaming prices so its not a big surprise or anything.

Infact I bought a PS4 Pro for around a $150 back in 2020 and I still don't feel like upgrading lol, there's so many cheap and great games to play on the PS4. $70 itself is not a bad idea. I think most people who were fine paying $60 15 years ago are fine paying $70 today. The bad idea is charging $70 for a game that isn't worth $70. I had no problem paying that price for Spider-Man 2 or Final Fantasy XVI, but I would not do it for an Ubisoft or EA game. Which is a shame because for EA's Immortals of Aveum, it is actually a pretty good game and I'm having a great time playing it now... that it isn't $70. They should've done a $40-$50 and it probably would've sold better. But everyone saw that $70 and knew not to buy it, and now that studio is laying off some of its employees and EA will probably shut it down in a few months like they've done to a dozen other studios. Callisto Protocol is another game that is decent enough, but just isn't worth the full price. God of War, Tears of the Kingdom, Hogwart's Legacy, etc all sold really well at $70 because they were games that were worth the money.

@@summerrr1 Were those games half finished, buggy AF, and filled to the brim with obnoxious MTX too? Also there is "natural inflation" that occurs over time and then there's what we're experiencing today, which is "avoidable inflation" so they aren't "automatically" the same exact thing either. The inflation of today is mostly because (at least in the US) of our half dead President and his cabinet of buffoons that are SO stupid, they "didn't understand" that simply printing more money would cause inflation. The weirdest thing I noticed is that the new games with immense budgets actually seem to look worse and play worse than A: Indie titles that may look a little less polished and B: games from just 3-5 years ago. Just look at the great visuals of the original Arkham series and Suicide Squad. One still looks great and plays well even after... holy shit, 15 years, and the other looks like it's assets are partly unfinished and it's style and gameplay feels and looks awfully dated on release.

Is really fucked up $100 games because if you decide to buy a couple of games like GoW R, TLOU remake, Demon Souls Remake, Spiderman 2 and FFVII Remake, after buying those games you already spent $500, meaning you just bought another console for only 5 games. Even $70 games would be around $350 on only 5 games. Not every game is worth $70 and we as consumers should vote with our wallet what is worth the price and what is not, for instance a game like RDR2, Zelda BoTW, TW3 or Elden Ring are worth $70 or as much $100, but only games with that level of budget and quality should be supported at that high price.

However they're charging 40% more for them than last generation, where they were £50 last generation and are now £70 for current generation, which is nearly US$90. That is for the standard edition of a game with no DLC, Micro Transactions, Loot Boxes, In Game Currency, Season Passes, etc included in the price either. The 40% increase we got is way more than inflation. Don't even get me started on how much those of us outside of the USA are overcharged for the hardware, accessories and services too. No. It just means bringing the behaviours and dark practices mobile users have been forced to swallow to console gamers. Time to go retro.

Of course it's unsustainable, if the game is trash and nobody buys it. It will also be unsustainable at 150$. But making good games at a good price is too much to ask. To me, 50$ for a quality game is fine. When i saw FF7 remake PT2 at 80$ i choked. I will never spend that much even if i absolutely love the game. I will buy it second hand and they will get 0$ from me. Especially knowing they recycled assets and the middleware is already done.

People want AAA game with long game play, high graphic fidelity, great story which costs lots of money to make. When they increased game price, people still complain about the price. When they talked about $50 game price 20 years ago, they forget about inflation. $50 in year 2000 is about $80-90 today. If you don’t want to pay $70 then wait for a discount which I also do.

Stuff we need in future PlayStation updates 1. Being able to separate party chat audio from recordings when sharing them 2. Being able to use voice keyboard inside of games 3. Fix an annoying bug that suspends your game when trying to save a clip with a full storage, thus deleting your clip 4. Being able to record System UI 5. Explore tab in all regions 6. This is more of a visual thing but it would be cool to make the default selection in the quick menu to be on the home button rather than being on the far left 7. I'm not a storage expert but if it's possible to make video clips and screenshots to save on your m.2 SSD that would be helpful! 8. Letting more 3rd party services the ability to create media apps for the PlayStation 9. PlayStation Stars being in all regions 10. Being able to check for updates in the library tab, this is currently limited to games that are on the homescreen 11. Backing up save files using a usb on PS5 and not being limited to cloud storage only These were some of the most important things that the current state for the PS5 software need after owning the console since launch day. Let me know if there are more options you'd like to see added in the replies and I'll add them to the list ⚠️⚠️ Re-share this comment in every PlayStation related video! ⚠️⚠️

They had the engine, the combat mechanics, most of the city already done. All they needed was motion capture, some new textures and put it all together to work. 4x the budget! Studios are bloated, just like in Hollywood. Japanese Godzilla Minus One has better CGI than any Marvel movie since like Infinity War yet it cost less than 15 million dollars. CGI garbage Hollywood produces costs 200-400 million dollars per movie and they all look like shit. There's a ton of nepotism and virtue signaling in both industries and people see it.

Hence why CEOs have such inflated salaries and compensations. The whole just throw more money at it to make it work better and faster. It was almost an hour long podcast. Just talking about his experience and all. That part stood out to me. It explains how things work here in the U.S. Having a passionate team and higher ups who actually care and treat their employees like actual human beings will yield far better results than just throwing more money at projects. Hopefully I got the message across. Felt like I rambled more than anything. 😅

As someone born in 1970, and having grown up with the whole 80's home computer generation, I'm always a bit confused about the whole complaints about AAA games costing 70 bucks. Back then, games that hardly would qualify as 2$ mobile title today cost sometimes just as much. I paid about 80 bucks for the Atari ST game "Time Bandit"... Of course the market was much MUCH smaller then, but so where the development teams (often just 1-5 guys) and development cycles. I guess what I'm saying is that getting games on the quality level of "God of War" or "Horizon" today, for the same or even less than I paid back then, doesn't seem all that bad to me. Of course it's another thing with live service games, or games heavily monetized with paid DLC and mtx, but for an actual complete, well done AAA game, 70 bucks seems fair.

I bought maybe ~20-30 day 1 PS4 games during that cycle, varying from 39-89 AUD. Because they now want up to $120 AUD for PS5 games I have literally bought a single game at release (Demons Souls). I have bought 4 total (Fifa a month after for the big discount, two niche Japanese Dungeon RPGS) I'm still playing my PS4 backlog because lots of them play incredibly different. I bought Kakarot day 1 on PS4. Got pissed at how bad the frame rate was and how attrocious the load times were (20-55 second times every single area transition). It was a big reason why I got a launch day PS5 - even though I didnt finally play it till last month because I heard it was getting an upgrade patch and just kept waiting. There is zero chance I end this generation with 50+ PS5 games like I did last gen. Prices went insane and everyone's wages didn't move with them. They can argue all this BS about $70 isn't enough blah blah blah. Its bullshit. Every year more and more people are getting into games, you don't need to raise prices if you have far more people interested. Its not the 1990's where gaming was this super niche thing and even then treated as a side hobby (largely because there were very few games coming out and even less with quality) Then there's the whole BS about games aren't even finished or stable on release and they want silly prices for it. Or it gets properly fixed 6+ months later. There's very very little reason to buy a game on release day anymore as you just get punished multiple times for it - once by the price and twice by the horrible issues that plague 80% of games.

I‘m with Ryan on the 70 USD being not just normal, but also way cheaper than it was in the 90s or even a decade ago. In 1995 fifty dollars (a price of a game that was often not what people expected) had the purchasing power of a hundred dollars of today. As the games industry grows, so too grow the volume of games coming out every year and the expectations for every next game to be bigger and better. So of course statistically there will be more games that are mediocre but still come at a full price. There is also a strange sense of entitlement present in the industry nowadays that I don’t remember gamers had some mere 10 years ago.

You certainly made a lot of good points when it comes to the cost of games, but what I appreciate about you most about it all is acknowledging that times are hard and many gamers are being careful about how they are spending their money. I look at it this way. If you are going to get a lot out of a $70 game compared to a cheaper new game that's a good point if you're going to put the time into the game as much as you spent on that particular AAA game that's likely going to be a long game. I never thought about it until you made that logical stand point.
