The Tony audience is always a very warm audience, but they are used to seeing great live performances. They don’t give standing ovations like other awards shows. Their reaction here tells you all you need to know about just how spectacular this was.

@sorchamccarrey2 жыл бұрын
i'm just relieved she made the crossover to film bc i would not be able to stomach some nondescript performance by yet another trendy starlet in that role. kinda disappointed in the ariana grande casting just bc i cannot imagine she's really got the comic chops to get away with it but maybe she will surprise. it puts butts in seats i guess and at least one of the leads is like guaranteed to show what happens when you cast according to talent! so excited for erivo's performance.
@Chibbykins Жыл бұрын
@@sorchamccarrey Cynthia will wipe the floor with Ariana. But tbf, Ariana can be funny. She wasn't bad at all in her Nickelodeon days
@firewaterintuitive787 Жыл бұрын
I’m so mad I just now am discovering this amazing, beautiful woman! I was worried at first about casting decisions, but as long as the director and writers do their jobs the Wicked movie is going to break records and maybe just maybe, give James Cameron a run for his money for top spot ❤❤❤
@sorchamccarrey Жыл бұрын
@@Chibbykins yeah maybe...idk, i have youtubed compilations of her acting and i just was not that impressed mostly, and they were pretty much all comedy. she was sometimes funny but like, cute funny. the joke was coming from her persona, not her skills as a comedian. which i'm like, that's halfway there for the first act? i guess? a stronger actor could properly mock the character while i feel like ariana grande will only be able to go so far as she is able to mock herself...which is not nothing but also, , , i have my doubts. maybe she will surprise and i will eat my words

I saw Cynthia Erivo in the Color Purple on Broadway AFTER she’d already won her Tony award for Best Actress. She sang “I’m Here” at the end as if it was going to be her last day on Earth! I kid you not! She did not have to sing it like that, and could’ve just half assed it, but she gave it her absolute everything. I was honestly wondering if that was gonna be her last night at the show, but it wasn’t. She still had more shows to sing that week and I’m sure she sang every single one as if it would be her last. It was completely mind blowing! She has ALL of my respect! 👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾

But when I saw the cast performing I was already mesmerized and began to love this musical immediately. The video hadn't hit the 2 minute mark yet and I've already hit the like-button. Then Cynthia stepped into the spotlight and started to sing. After just a few notes I had goosebumps and began to cry. Words can't describe how beautiful the whole performance was. I think I've found a new musical obsession...
