718 Cayman GT4 MR @ Oulton Park - RS day 2024

Sequence of a few laps from the traditional season opener at Oulton Park.
WET and COLD AM - outside of the operating window of Cup2 tyres so no running. But things warm up and dry out for the afternoon.
Caught a couple cars at crucial points on each lap... however consistency is already tight for the first day of the year, average lap time is quicker (1m55.2) and optimal lap also much quicker (1m53.1)
The homework over the winter making itself evident from day 1.
Learning continues...

Super consistent, would've gone much quicker without traffic, still some time in Island and entry to Shell, Druids could be a bit earlier on power and lodge a bit later on turn in....but easy to say from arm chair as an old man😊😊

Cheers mate… yes Island wasn’t as quick as previous visits as well as entry to Shell Oil so i know I have time in hand there… Will have a look at Druids and Lodge as I think thats about feeling the limit?! … safer with warmer tarmac and tyres! .52 is within grasp… so I’ll target .51

Great video! Whats your thoughts on the manual gt4 gear ratios? Often hear people complaining but doesn’t seem to be a problem on track… must be from road use gt4 owners

Thanks very much. Standard gear ratios are not an issue on track IMO. With shorter ratios you’ll be shifting more, but with the 718 4.0 that has power everywhere it doesn’t make too much difference… and you also narrow the operating window for larger circuits. So I standard ratios give a good range. Better thing to do might be to increase/raise the actual power band.

Single mass lightweight flywheel also helps - there's a bit more punch out of corners (2nd gear in particular) and the engine revs a bit freer everywhere. A re-gear also loses the auto blip functionality I think.

I understand LWFW flywheel does add a bit of zip to the experience, but I haven’t touched any of the engine or drivetrain on mine.
