could you do a dyno test for the car to see the performance gains? I did a tune for my base cayman 2.0 with APR recently!

Did the APR mapping change the sportmode and the normal mode, or do you always have the 77HP extra?

There is definitely still a difference between normal and sport mode with the tune. In my experience there is a bigger difference between the 2 modes with the tune than from stock. There is still a power increase in normal mode from stock just not as much as when put in sport. Also the crackles and pops don’t happen in normal mode so that doesn’t change from stock either. Most differences are seen when you switch to sport mode.

I'm sure you debated on the F6 motor vs the newer one. What was the final thought process that led you to pick the 718 caymans?

Wow sounds like you’ve had a great experience with the APR tune too. It really is smooth and I have never had problems with it so far. I’ve definitely had my fair share of hard driving and still no problems for me either.

Yep the soul down pipe is the next step for sure. Probably catless.

Thanks for that input I didn’t know that. I do still see an exhaust sometime in the future just for enhanced sound.

I will add that I saw my local sales rep having a similar tune with softronics and a soul exhaust with a down pipe and omg 987CS is nothing in comparison 😂

Might not be a bad idea to wait for the warranty to expire, though I’ve never had troubles with mine.

Just tell the service advisor to not run a spec actual on the car, thats how you flag a car for being tuned.

I got mine done at Dubwerx in Cincinnati Ohio. I had a great experience and recommend them very much.

Thanks for your input. I may be very biased but I was also in a similar situation of deciding between a 981 and 718. I’m very happy with my decision. Everyone complains about the sound but as soon as I heard the 718 in person it was music to my ears. I personally really enjoy both they are just different. Also I would like to point out that although the HP numbers you mentioned aren’t too different the toque is a completely different story. APR tq is around 420ft-lbs while the 981 GT4 is 310ft-lbs stock. Whatever decision you make I’m sure you’ll be happy. Happy searching!

@@allenstevens completely agree, that tq difference is what most people actually feel. 718 all the way! Love the body styling of the gt4, but a bodykit can fix that for much cheaper.

@@allenstevens It's funny because I loved my 2014 981 Boxster S I purchased new, when the 718 with the 2.5 came out I hated it. I hated it for 2 or 3 years and never gave it a chance. That was ignorant unfortunately. The APR tune is what turned me.

Tbh, a tune without exhaust, air filter, sport cat mods, won t move the power from 350 HP crank to 400 HP at wheels. This would be a gain of at least 70 to 80 HP just by the tune. I don t know a single tune capable of that HP boost without actual mod on the engine/exhaust. I ve been through a lot of research and consulted a lot of shop doing those tunes at various places in 3 other countries outside mine, and the max gain of HP they were capable of producing via just an ECU tune was +30 HP claimed by that shop. I d be curious to see how much you of difference before and after the tune when you ll do it. This is what matters eventually because it is the actual real HP boost. Not at all, I love mine and I still get to rip on it through the whole RPM range. I get what you mean, like you feel like you can’t floor it for too long because you get into felony territory too quick? But I still rip on mine and it doesn’t feel too fast at all!

@allenstevens Yea, that's what I meant. I think the 2.5 litre engine is just beautiful. I'll consider a tune maybe later on when I get super used to the current power. (The novelty is still strong, and it still excites me)

It was a flat panel. It’s a slight pain to get to but I really noticed the difference in turbo noise so it was worth it!! Haha

No heat issues for me. Though I do not track my car, so I can’t comment on anything about that.

There is someone running 450hp on the 2.0, there are some videos on KZfaq. He retrofitted the OEM radiator, as all the mounts are already there, he also had to fit water-meth injection to keep temps down for track driving.

Yes you’re probably right. I plan on going custom tune if i end up changing more than just the downpipe and exhaust. But for now I’m happy. Sounds like a good alternative.

Just for your benefit, here is word for word copy pasted from APR’s website directly. I hope this clears up your questions. The APR Stage 1 ECU Upgrade is the first step towards tuning your engine. It produces up to 398-439 HP and 387-421 FT-LBS of torque with gains as high as +59-85 HP and +76-108 FT-LBS of torque at the wheels.

I don’t have an exhaust set up on my car. It’s the difference in my microphone set up. I will try to do better with my microphone placement.
