Short movie while we were mooring the tug. Mainly done for the nice turbosound.

Very nice super clean Engine Room I,m an Engineer on a EMD Tow Boat and can appreciate all that goes into keeping a boat up like that.👍.

Reminds me of the British Rail class 43 HSTs when they were originally fitted with the Paxman Valenta power units, awesome sound that sounded like a fury being unleashed !

PRTYOF4 2 mains, 2 backup's it should be anyway. Smaller motors are usually Detroit Diesel's. My dad was Chief engineer on a tug and push boat for many years. RIP POP

michaelovitch I would say no. My guess is either neutral or positive pressure. You’d need quite a bit of ventilation for that space. Ship I was stationed on had positive ventilation. All service gens and main engines had their own air supply that was separate from the ventilation uptake space

Positive, you can tell from one of his other startup vids where it's pretty apparent to me. Seems like the ducts carry quite some flow.

Voith-Schneider’s. Right before he goes back up the ladder to leave the engine room, you can see one on the right. It is painted blue.

@ShippingHarbors. You need to make a 2 hour or more in this setup.Put camera near the stairs and record the sweet sound of diesel and turbo whistle.1:30 minutes is just a teaser. I wonder how it sound under full load.....

do you wait a Little before shutting the engine down to allow everything to cool down and allow the Turbos to spool down?

+bobl78 Yes we do, but it's not very long that you have to wait to shut them down. Most of the time the engines are running idle for more then a minute before shutting them down.

very accurate response. in a large yacht (theorically) you should wait 5 minutes, as engines operates at WOT for long periods of time. TUGs are more surges of power than WOT in most of the cases.

If ideal the turbo charge engine for 2 mints it allows the hot compressed gas out from the inter coolers which saves the life of turbos

@@ch.roughhabit5002 haha there is no "ideal" time factor. It's whatever the engine requires to hit a pre turbo egt of 300 degree F. This ensures the oil in the turbo is below the temperature to coke in the bearings. The time required will vary based on the level of heat soak in a particular set up.

We rev Em up to max rpm then shut engines off. Help to keep people employed. Not to mention, keeps the profit margins down. 🙈

SWITCH_KILL _RELOCK a dragster only has 10dousend for about 4 seconds, and then it gets rebuilt. This tug could pull a loaded container ship once around the world before a major service.
