Next up on our holiday special is my Nigerian brother Kevin Olusola! You may know him from the Grammy award winning acapella group “Pentatonix” or his own podcast that he cohosts called “Imagine Faith Talk.”
Kevin has a beautiful soul and we got deep on this episode today. We talk about,
· Growing up and what it means to be an immigrant as well as a half Nigerian, half Caribbean in Kentucky.
· How his parents shielded him from the prejudice around him.
· How is life turned out differently than what his family originally hoped for, but the support that have for him now.
· Going to top schools like Yale and learning Chinese, the cello, and beatboxing all at the same time.
· How his teacher pushed to get over his fear and recognize his gifts. Resulting in him creating a world where beatboxing meets classical music.
· How he joined Pentatonix a day before the group auditioned for Sing Off.
· Winning the competition but then getting dropped by their label soon afterwards.
· How they didn’t let being dropped stop them and started to put out their own content on KZfaq. Soon, they recognized they could use Christmas as a time to put out an album.
· The struggles they went through as a group and how it wasn’t always positive.
· Getting married and what fatherhood is like while on the road.
· How he makes goals for the month to properly prioritize his time.
· Favorite moments from his career and how he still gets nervous.
We cover so much on this episode and didn’t even hit all that I wanted to talk about. So, you already know there will be a part 2! But in the meantime, be sure to check out Pentatonix’s new album Holidays Around the World, see them on tour, or watch their holiday special PTX Around the World on Disney Plus now!

Keven you ARE helping people. I was in a BAD depression I saw PTX clips of you as friends, your music and it's messages. That was a life line that got me out of a black hole and saved my life. THANK YOU Love from Australia

Such a great interview. Kevin is an incredible musician, artist, and human being. Humble and down to earth even after these years of success. As all of the members of PTX are. Love you, Kev!

So cool. Pentatonix is the best and learning more about Kevin was great. I am a born again Christian and that was something that drew me even more to them with him and Matt being outspoken and open about that aspect of their lives.

This was such a great interview! I loved listening to both of you! Your mom calling during the podcast was priceless ❤ Have been a fan of Kevin and PTX since they were on the Sing Off. I knew a lot of the story but this was so great to learn more of the thought process and life with the band and just life! Lead with empathy and understanding, Love you KO

What a testament to his teacher. She was clearly an involved and devoted educator with an understanding of an individual’s possible paths to fulfilling their dreams. I’m grateful she asked him about combining the two. An exceptional teacher indeed. I really enjoyed your dialogue. Thank you.

Love, love, love this interview. Pentatonix is such as special group and each member is so special and talented. I’ve been to 2 concerts and they are just as awesome in person as they are in their recorded music. But there are other talented groups, but what puts PTX over the top for me is 1) the both the complexity and emotions of their music and 2) the individuals with their diversity and talent. Thank you.

“The love, the passion, that’s what gets me up every day to do this.” His words hit me so hard, because he and his group work so hard, are so very talented, gifted. I could go on and on. They give so much to so many. This is a wonderful interview, a beautiful insight to an amazing man! Thank you for this! 🫶🏻💚🥺

What a wonderful interview and insight in to his brain. I have heard most of the things he talk about but he goes more in deapth and it gives such a full view of his mindset. And love how you needed to hear a lot of it as well! Seems like you two hit it off very well, which always lead to better conversations.
