ABOUT THIS VIDEO
In this video, I show you how to pronounce 73 difficult words in English. I'm from California, so I speak with an American accent.
You might notice that a few times I struggle to demonstrate some words. This is because it's very hard to pronounce words slowly without distorting the sound. This is also why I prefer to say the words quickly, so you learn to say them like a REAL native English speaker.
Here is the list of words from this video:
Entrepreneur
Inevitably
Thought
Architecture
Regularly
Question
Unfortunately
Iron
February
Literally
Sixth
World
Daughter
Width
Congratulations

Thanks Stefanie for this lesson. The word "Comfortable" that you have covered is a tough one for me and usually forgot the correct pronunciation in English, maybe because in Spanish we have the same word written identically, but the way that you say that in Spanish is different, the strong syllable changed and I believe that is the main reason. I am in Louisiana in a training. Yesterday I went to an auction and it was a wow! I barely got what those guys in front of me were saying. They spoke so fast plus their southern accent. It was a real challenge! Specially when you are so used to your perfect English pronunciation. Big hugs and thank you again.

The reason english is not a phonetic language and that it's difficult to spell the words is because most of them they're actually foreign words. Entrepreneur is of french origin, February is latin/old french, etc.

Also, just mixing of popular vernacular with proper ways of pronouncing things - LangFocus does a great video that discusses this with his "The Scots Language (or Dialect?!)" video, about 2 min in. Additionally, the video of his: "Is English Really a Germanic Language?" goes into some of the influences on English.

It has to do with values of the vowels. To make it short, a short vowel usually has the format V+C(+C) or else it could be a diphthong or a long vowel. Beware! There are many exceptions to the rule!

I love how you do it, that's the way every english teacher has to do it explaining clearly every single and little detail. I'm a native spanish speaker (Dominican Republic - Latin) and I got many years learning english and I understand and speak as well as a can but so far my biggest problem have been my listening and neutralisation accent, and let me let you know that YOUUUU are the kind of teahers that really help us (Latin) differentiate a wrong way to mantion the words from the right way. Veryyy good, I guess you do it that way cause you maybe know how to speak spanish or something like that.

Theater's pronunced sea-ater, but "th" is only the way the greek letter theta is written in our alphabet... Theta is a T, just like tau.

Great video! Very helpful. Maybe for next videos like this could include less words but expending a little more time to explain each one (pronunciation, the motion of the mouth, examples with sentences, etc.) Love your channel 🙌🏼

I think this has a lot to do with the speed at which you speak. British English is spoken a little slower than the American version with more emphasis on sound changes.

Date an American. The American will draw you into the webwork of friends. And you will be immersed in the sound-room. That's how my wife learned. She went from almost no spoken English (but many years of academic study) to spoken fluency in a matter of months.

Steph I loved this video...it is very useful for me to work the pronunciation. When you repeat again and again the words that´s the best way to learn the pronunciation. When you say that you tend to write words the way that they sound it's the same thing that happens to us Hispanics. Some times I´m writting something and I realize I´m writting words the way that they sound. Anyways...go ahead with more videos like this...they are not boring, they are very useful. Regards from Argentina.
