73969 Edinburgh to Aberdeen. Caledonian Sleeper 1A25

The new stock for the Caledonian Sleeper Services has been introduced. So what I have done here, in filming the journey onboard from immediately behind 73969 isn't possible anymore.
If you enjoyed this film, see more in this style...MAKE SURE YOU ALSO VIEW 73970 on my channel on the West Highland up to Fort Bill.. I think that video, is even better than this one as a matter of personal opinion...
So enjoy crossing the visually stunning Forth Bridge and later the Tay Bridge with me, and a run along the North Sea and lots more including a sighting of THE ROYAL SCOTSMAN TRAIN with 66746 and a COLAS 56 at Thornton Jcn'.
These class 73 converted engines are now proving reliable, so enjoy the journey from Edinburgh to Aberdeen with added visual GPS data including line speed throughout and location titles if you've not done the journey before. Stereo microphone with wind noise protection make this an entertaining journey.
Enjoy the sights and sounds whilst you still can. Im certainly glad I captured this whilst I could to share with everyone. Please feel free to share it!

English Electric - they’ll go on forever, even if these 73s are pretty much a shell nowadays (if you know what I mean.) I worked on them when I was a guard on the Southern. Fantastic locomotives!

I agree great engines.. hope you enjoyed my fiim as much as i did making it... I think my other film 73970 to Fort William and back on my channel is even better than this! The scenerby and sounds after about 10 minutes are stunning!

Class 73's.......refurbished and upgraded locomotives. Great machines........and what commonsense to continue to make use of them...... Pity we didn't refurbish and upgrade a whole load of other locomotives that we had, instead of scrapping them.... James Hennighan Yorkshire, England

As I have been away from the UK for quite a few years now, and out of touch with rail developments there, I'm astonished to see Class 73s operating in Scotland. I presume they have been re-engined with a power plant with a bit more grunt than the original EE 600hp unit. Are they still able to run on the 750v DC third rail? (not that there would be any need for that in Scotland)

Yes they have about 3 years ago. Not sure about the DC rail shoes.... They may have been removed as there 6 of these 73’s allocated directly to the Caledonian sleeper service...

I've just done similar for the Inverness and Fort William portions, although employing a lower level of technology than you. Like you say this soon will no longer be possible, which is a great shame, not just for photographers but for anyone who likes to engage a bit with the 'real world' outside during a journey.

CambriaJunction great stuff, booked on not Sunday but the the Sunday afterwards to Fort WIlliam and return to try and cover Edinburgh to FW in the Summer light

Photographers will leave the windows open which makes the corridors freezing in winter. If you are photographing please shut the windows after!
