@@TyrannoJoris_Rex I thought we were comparing jumbo jets, this 737 is a little small. If you want length of service life you need the DC-3 which stopped being used in 2021 due to cost of maintenance for a pre-World war II era airplane.

@@r.ghaffar2578The industry has changed. The development of smaller, more efficient long haul airliners means that airlines can now fly point to point on longer routes with lesser demand. Planes like the 747 are a relic of the time when long haul carriers had a few long haul routes with a network of short haul feeder routes linking into them. Customers obviously prefer flying direct, and so, there simply isn’t a place for jumbos anymore.

I flew on the British airways 747-400 every time I visited India. It gave me beautiful memories. I flew on it 7 times back and forth between the USA and India until British airways retired the 747. Salute to the queen of the skies. 🫡

My grandfather learned to fly in a stearman biplane and retired flying the 747. What a career. He was born in the 20’s and went from flying a fully analogue, unpressurized Douglas C-47 over the Hump to a mechanized, computer-filled, jet-powered, fly-by-wire beast internationally.

In my opinion, they should put one of the Boeing 747s in a museum. If all were destroyed, the only things we’d have left are photos and videos. It’s one thing to see something in a video or photo. But it’s another thing entirely when you see the object in the photo right in front of your own eyes. I can’t bear the thought of not having a least one left to be displayed as a piece of history. Kind of like being displayed in a hall of fame. A hall of fame is where this beauty belongs!

My Dad joined Qantas in the mid 1960's. He retired in 2012. He initially flew in the 707. From when Qantas introduced the 747, Qantas fleet quickly was made up mostly of 747s, & a lesser amount of 707s. They did have 2 Focker Friendship that flew to Norfolk Island. Dad spent most of his career in the 747, flying all over the World i too had many holidays, flying all over the World in many of Qantas' 747s. Latter dad was trained to fly in the A380, but still mostly flew in the 747. For me the 747 was a major part of my life. My favourite flight was from Sydney to London & of course the return flight. This was because it was the longest. I could never understand people that complained about how long the journey was. There were several reasons for this. Compare a 24 or 26hr flight from London to Sydney to the 8 months voyage of the First Fleet from England to Sydney. Also flying in a 747, as a passenger even in economy it was reasonably comfortable, & certainly lot more comfortable than being on one of the First Fleet Ships. In addition to this, the food even in economy was really good. Lot of people bag airline food out, but try eating the food they had on the First Fleet for 8 months, then even the most synicial would have a new appreciation for airline food. Also there were always great movies, which I always look forward to. One more thing, I always read the Qantas in flight magazine from cover to cover. Oh, also for kids, & I was one once, there were great books, like colouring in books. I was also a proud member of the V-Jet Club, which was a Club for kids, that gave you lots of great stuff, like colouring in books, books with mazes & other games, & stickers. Of course i got to fly First Class on many occasions. For me when I flew on a Qantas 747, i wanted the flight to go on forever. When I boarded the flight, I was most excited, as I knew there were at least another 24hr left. I would never sleep, as travelling on the 747 was the very best bit of any Holiday. I couldn't wait for every movie. I went through every radio station. When meal service came around, I ate & drank everything. After landing in each stop-over, they would give you an orange juice. Some Cities this juice was average, but sometimes it was the most freshest juiciest orange juice you could savour. Yes, I loved flying all over the World in a 747. When the flight was over I was sad. I am even more sad, seeing that once proud 747 beheaded The way it was done was ceremonial. Watching that Cockpit being beheaded was like watching an execution where the codemned has their head guillotined. The 747 had a proud career, i believe they flew more people overseas than any other Aircraft. Few years back, I couldn't imagine a World without the 747 as the dominate Aircraft. I still can't. I really don't want to see them go. However Airlines & passengers are looking to cheaper alternatives, & the 777, 787, A350, & A380 are all more full efficient & all round cheaper to run. Thankyou to the Boeing 747, in all its variants for all the great time. ❤️ 😍 💖 ❤❤❤❤❤

@@Goofy-mi8lyfor his services, when a plane completes his last flight he receives a salute from a water cannon on the taxi way. That's a way of saying thank you for the service as he has done well and completed its flying period without any crash and now will not be flying as it's not fit for it .

They are still used for cargo, also at KLM. Saw one of them on Schiphol spotterscam a few weeks ago.

Fun fact from the topic of this video: The 747 is going to potentially be still in service by the year 2025, thanks to the new VC-25Bs soon to fly, along with the last EVER commercially built 747F. *We still have hope.*
