John Stockton was the ultimate leader on the floor, earning 10 All-Star nods and becoming the NBA's all-time leader in assists and steals in his 19-year career.

"He never complained." That comment says so much about Stockton. He was getting clothes-lined with elbows on picks and he never complained. Today's NBA is crying to the refs every time they get touched.

@@Amick44 Just tough, tough guy, and what a great classic story, that goes to testament to Stockton's resilience. That gets and fazes the opponent trying to break you. Also came up with the van, took out the family, went in there and busted CWebb's team ass in another occasion lol! Silent worker.

A lot of greats have a mentor or two that helped them grow and get better. I wonder who that was for Stockton? He wasn't the starting PG at Utah until his 4th year. Makes me think maybe Rickey Green (who was an all star and the NBA leader in steals in 1984) helped Stockton develop, handle the rock, learn how to steal etc.

Interesting thought. The career averages per season would be even higher for Stockton if he didn't have bench minutes his first few years and then playing until 40 years of age against great athletes at the PG position. The NBA Finals years saw Stockton in his mid thirties when the Jazz finally assembled more pieces around Stockton and Malone. Go back and look at Stockton's prime season averages in 1987, 1988 & 1989. It's too bad the Jazz didn't have the right role players. Stockton averaged right around 17 Points and 14 Assists during those 3 years.

Thomas had to open up that old wound @4:40 lol. Sorry Thomas, no one was late on the switch. Only reason Stock was so wide open was that Malone *grabbed Drexler and wouldn't let go* and it wasn't called. Malone admitted to this years later in an interview. Said that in the huddle he said he was going to grab hold and not let go because the refs weren't going to call it.
@johnmellos994611 ай бұрын
He was great no question. He isn't better than Isiah Thomas. Thomas had a shorter career but those 2 rings were heavy rings. He went through Bird's Celtics, Magic and Kareem's Lakers, Jordan's Bulls.

The Pistons won 2 Championships and really could have had 2 more. The "steal by Bird" won Game 5 when the series was tied 2-2. If the Pistons went Home to Detroit up 3-2 then the Pistons likely head to the Finals for their first time. They made the Finals the next year and lost to the Lakers when Isaiah had a badly sprained ankle. He was heroic in Game 6 but he was too hammered in game 7. But even still, Kareem was rewarded a phantom foul called on Laimbeer in the closing seconds. Of course the Pistons won back to back Titles after that.
